Chapter 244

Chapter 244
Lily's POV
"What kind of story would you like to hear?" William asked.
I dropped an obvious hint. "Maybe something gentle and sweet, about little animals?"
William took out his phone and searched for "bedtime stories to help girlfriend sleep," finally selecting a sweet story about a little prince and a cherry sprite.
William's voice was gentle, with a unique huskiness that was almost mesmerizing.
I thought I'd be too excited by his voice to sleep, but surprisingly, I gradually grew drowsy listening to his rhythmic narration, eventually falling into a deep slumber.
When I woke up the next day, it was already noon. I found myself tucked snugly under the blanket, with William no longer on the sofa.
A vague sense of unease passed through me as I got up and walked toward the door.
Suddenly, the door opened, and William appeared with slightly damp shoulders, carrying beef wraps, some seafood, and two coffees.
"I just bought these, figuring you'd be hungry when you woke up."
The scene felt heartwarming, as natural as a couple who had been married for years.
I stared at the seafood on the table, unsure how to explain my seafood allergy.
After all, William had bought this for me. If I mentioned my seafood allergy, would he blame himself for failing in his duties as a boyfriend?
He was quite sensitive, and I worried about hurting his pride.
"What's wrong? Don't you like it?" William's brow furrowed.
I realized he was starting to overthink and quickly said, "No, how could I not like it? Everything you bought is what I love."
"Good, let me peel some crab meat for you."
As he offered the crab meat to me, I took a deep breath and ate it.
I remembered that eating one piece wouldn't trigger an allergic reaction.
After swallowing the crab meat, I put on a satisfied expression. It was truly delicious.
"Let me have another one."
As I was about to eat a second piece, my entire body suddenly began to itch.
William noticed the red spots on my arm and realized I was having an allergic reaction to seafood.
"You're allergic to seafood?"
Despite my stubborn insistence that "it wasn't this bad before, it should pass in a moment," my condition worsened—itching, pain, and difficulty breathing.
"Why didn't you tell me you're allergic to seafood?" William anxiously called 911.
Lying in William's arms, I said, "You bought it especially for me, so of course I had to eat it. After all, this is the first time you've bought something for me—such a meaningful gesture."
"Are you crazy? What would I do if something happened to you?" William was angry.
Looking at his worried face, I fought through the itching and smiled. "If something happens to me, just find a pretty girl to marry, and name your child after me as a memorial."
I was moved by my own sacrifice.
"Lily, if anything happens to you, I won't let you off even if you go to hell!"
"Yes, it's touching, isn't it? You should cry—" I froze at William's response.
"What did you say? You won't let me off even in hell?"
"This isn't what I imagined. Shouldn't you be crying and begging me not to die?"
I ended up in the hospital.
In the hospital room, inhaling the familiar scent of disinfectant, I frowned and couldn't help asking, "Can I leave the hospital now?"
William gave me a cold look and asked, "What do you think?"
I laughed awkwardly, accepting my fate. "I guess probably not."
William briefly responded, "Good that you know."
I asked worriedly, "What about our travel plans?"
William calmly replied, "Just focus on getting better in the hospital. We have plenty of time, no need to rush." I could only lie back on the bed, feeling defeated.
Bored, staring at the ceiling, I couldn't help wondering if my bad luck was at work again.
"Lily."
Startled by the sudden call, I jumped. "What is it?"
"When can I marry you and take you home?"
I laughed dryly. "I have a feeling my mother is still alive, just like Yale. I want to find my mother and get married with her witness."
William was very dissatisfied with this answer. "Let's get engaged first, then marry after we find your mother."
"Why the sudden urgency?"
"I don't want others coveting you. I want everyone to know you're mine—William's woman."
William looked at me seriously. "After all, there are far too many people who have their eyes on you."
I was stunned. Had I not given him enough security?
"Do you want to get engaged to me?"
I looked at the light flickering in William's eyes.
"Yes."
"Then let's get engaged when we return."
"Okay."
"Before Christmas."
"Okay."
I looked at William. "Come here, I want to kiss you."
William raised an eyebrow, smirking as he leaned closer.
One day later At the filming base
My allergic reaction had subsided. Beatrice had messaged me, so I thought of bringing William to see Beatrice, Michael, and Henry.
Just as William and I arrived, we saw Michael holding a cup, feeding water to Beatrice.
The crew, having witnessed this for so long, were used to it, but William and I rarely saw such scenes. Our eyes nearly popped out at the sight.
I was shocked by how quickly their relationship had progressed, while William had never seen Michael being so gentle.
Feeding her water, wiping her mouth—they looked even sweeter than us, an official couple.
"Youth is wonderful," I sighed.
William misunderstood, thinking I wanted similar treatment, and turned to ask puzzledly, "Do you like being fed water too?"
"No, I don't like that. I like money—you could buy me some gold."
William frowned. "But I've given you all my money to manage. I can't afford gold anymore."
He was a big CEO yet sounded so pitiful. I almost couldn't hold back my laughter.
"This proves you haven't hidden any secret stash. Well done, keep it up."
Our conversation, being somewhat loud, disturbed the water-feeding couple.
Beatrice's face turned bright red instantly.
I walked over and patted Beatrice's head. "What's wrong? You don't seem happy to see me."
Beatrice shook her head vigorously. "No, how could I not be happy? I've been missing you."
I looked around. "Where's Henry? And Tristan? Are they doing well?"
At this, Beatrice's expression became troubled. "Henry's fine, but Tristan... he..."
A sense of foreboding welled up inside me. "What happened to Tristan?"
Beatrice bit her lip. "He's in trouble..."
"What happened?"
At this point, Beatrice's gaze suddenly turned sorrowful. "After the drugging incident was investigated, it turned out to be someone from the neighboring crew. Tristan went to confront them and got beaten up and thrown out. They also warned that your CEO is now despised by everyone, and we shouldn't cause trouble, or next time they'd beat someone to death..."
Emily again!
