Nobody Will Die For Me
Amelia POV
The pain of the dragon monster's bite was crippling my leg. Ying was flying over and closing in on us, as Verena stood mere inches from me. Now was my chance. As I was about to stab her, additional commotion broke out behind me, and soon, her dragon monsters multiplied. There were at least two dozen of them, appearing out of thin air almost, stalking me from behind. Ying was flying low, and next thing I knew, Lord Wong jumped in the disarray of this situation, pulling the dragon like a monster off my leg, injuring it with his sword. Verena hissed at this intrusion, and for a second her focus was on him, her aura lifted off me a little and I used it to plunge the Elven blade into her chest. A dark, almost black-like, thick, gooey looking substance poured out of the wound. However, it did not seem to slow her down much.
I heard voices behind me, and to my utmost surprise, I saw one of my father’s generals rush in through the front door. I knew him well - he was one whose family was bound to my Father, to us, one who had pledged his undying loyalty, one of my father's most fierce supporters. What Lord Krimus was doing here – that I did not know, but at that moment, I did not care. He came with warriors, and right now, I was extremely grateful to see him. His eyes locked on me, quickly assessing the whole situation, motioning several of his warriors toward me. I knew the maneuver well, they would shield me, while he would try to extract me from all this, often at the high cost of everybody involved. People would die protecting me. I did not deserve that, I had betrayed my family and most definitely did not deserve anyone to die fighting for me.
“Amelia, MOVE!!!”, he yelled, making way through the snarling dragon-like monsters who charged him and his men. I noticed that he brought the archers too, as somewhere from some vantage point, arrows started flying, Elven arrows, hitting Verena’s monsters, trying to turn the tide of this battle. A couple of arrows had hit her too, but she was at the moment preoccupied with Lord Wong who was doing his best to battle her energy and protect me at the same time. I looked around for a weapon. I could not let this go. I came here with a purpose and I would kill her, if it was the last thing I did! One of the arrows lay by my feet and I quickly picked it up, moving to Verena’s right side, aiming for her face. She was still battling with Lord Wong, her aura was still fixed on me, however, not with her previous intensity. I lifted the silver-tipped arrow and held it firmly in my hands. I could see that her stab wound I inflicted earlier was healing already! Who was she??? The Elven Blade was a deadly weapon and she would be seriously injured, if not dead already. How is it possible that she is already healing???? What kind of a creature was she???
Ying, flying low and over us all, had successfully burned several of the creatures to the crisp. However, we faced another danger - we were risking exposure. This area was not shielded by a cloak, this was human land. Anyone could see him, anyone could see us. We needed to work fast. I realized that the space was too small for Ying to land, but also, it was too dangerous for him to do so. What if somebody saw us. Her house had some privacy, however, despite human ignorance of our existence, they would notice a dragon Ying’s size. Thinking about all this, I realized we needed to move fast. If we could not kill her, we needed to at least wound her or incapacitate her in some way while we regroup. I only had one shot, one chance to make this right. I tried to steady myself, however, my leg was hurting so much that it was impossible for me to put any weight on it.
I tried to focus and use my magic, direct the arrow with it, but Verena and Lord Wong were engaged in a spectacular battle, one almost beautiful if it were not so deadly. Death is the ultimate control in a way. It can be seen as an artist painting. The canvas, the colors, the image, are all in the artist's control, all in his grasp. Every choice belongs to the artist, and just as with death, the choice belongs to those that deliver it. I watched, almost mesmerized, Verena’s attempts at trying to subdue Lord Wong, but he did not give in easily. Ying had all but decimated her monsters. However, more were coming. It was time for us to leave, time for us to regroup. I could not accept sacrifices on my behalf, I was not worthy of any of it.
Aiming steadily, I cast the spell and threw the arrow. It hit her, right between her eyes, with all the force I could summon, all the power I had, and for a moment, everything broke. Her monsters froze, and she stood there for a second, her black, gory blood trailing over her contorted face. This was our chance. “Gather your men and leave!!! NOW!!! She will come back from this quickly.. We have but a moment here!" I screamed and got the attention of both Lord Wong and Lord Krimus. I was losing blood, a lot of it. Looking down, I noticed that my injury was much more serious than I originally thought. Lord Krimus had a bite on his arm too, however, not as big of a gaping hole as mine.
Lord Wong locked his eyes on me and rushed over to me, just in time. As I looked at the back yard and prayed no humans saw anything. The last thing I remembered was Lord Wong grabbing me into his arms. And then it all went black.
