Chapter 91 91
Chapter 91 91
Waking up, with a day free from training, to an empty bed—has Andre ready to throw a tantrum.
Every day for the last week, he has been forced to endure the misery of dragging himself out of this bed and away from Dylan.
Finally, finally, when he wakes up to his body’s natural alarm clock, he was so excited to tug his baby closer and go right back to sleep.
So where the hell is he?
Andre’s face hurts so damn bad he can barely open his left eye.
They took the head wrap off for Dylan to clean the stitches last night…but apparently, despite his insistence that it was, the wrap was not the cause of this migraine.
It must’ve just been getting clobbered in the face by a sharp-ass ice skate. No big deal . The doctor said that despite needing stitches, the wound is nowhere near as severe as it could’ve been. He’s going to have a scar, but considering he could’ve lost an eye if he took the blade any higher, a simple scar and head pain is a blessing.
He knows that he is indeed moving, despite how slow his steps may be. But it’s not until he nearly reaches the kitchen that the soft sounds of his parents and Dylan talking quietly makes him stop in his tracks.
Pausing just around the corner.
They’re reviewing the documents he and Dylan spent all week gathering.
His mother seems to be cross checking everything, while by the sounds of it, his father is preparing breakfast.
Did Dylan come in here on his own?
“Andre could use a lesson or two from you about frugality. You really don’t buy anything do you?”
Dylan laughs softly, “well…I usually only buy food…especially during the school year… but um, Andre bought our food a lot. So I didn’t really have to think about it, often.”
Andre’s hand clutches at his own heart, doing his best to stifle the way he nearly groans.
He fucking loves Dylan sooooo much.
“‘I’ve been searching through your statements as far back as it will let me go, which is three years, and there hasn’t been a single deposit outside of your jobs. I don’t know how much weight that will carry, it majorly depends on California state laws…and even if she was the joint owner at the time of opening the account. That was only supposed to be until you turned 18. The account should've automatically shifted from a child's savings account to a regular adult checking account. but I can’t imagine your mother having rights to this money.’”
“I just don’t think I want to fight anything…If giving her the money means she leaves me alone, I think I’m okay with that…”
And yeahh, absolutely not, Andre can’t stay hidden anymore.
“That’s gonna be a no, baby. I’m sorry, you worked too damn hard for that money to give it up.”
“Why are you awake?!” Dylan stands up instantly “It’s not even nine yet. You need more rest Andre, you barely slept at all because you were tossing all night.”
“Well, I wanted to go back to sleep but you weren’t in bed anymore.”
Dylan’s arms cross and he rounds the table, stepping into the hallway where Andre still stands,
“That’s because I have things to take care of. Meanwhile, you need to be resting. Otherwise going back to training on Monday is not happening.”
Andre actually barks out a tiny laugh.
Brows rising as he steps closer, voice a low rumble in Dylan’s ear, “last time I checked, you're not the one who gives orders.”
But the usual flustered blushing never comes. Dylan presses a finger into the center of his chest, “last time i checked, I'm not the one who played a hockey scrimmage with no helmet on.”
“That’s not fair.”
Dylan shakes his head, finger still applying enough pressure to make Andre step backwards, “go to bed. I’m almost finished and I’ll be back with your pain medicine and water.”
Andre pulls Dylan past the opening to the kitchen, shielding them with the wall as he kisses him hotly, “And much less clothing would be preferred.” Dylan’s sweet smile makes Andre’s stomach do back flips, “only if you’re good, Andreie.”
Returning back to the dining room table…Dylan is a little embarrassed.
But thankfully neither Henry nor Denis say a word about what they may have witnessed.
That is until they’ve wrapped up everything Denis needs to submit the fraud report and she offers a knowing smile, “use some of that fire you gave Andre to get him back to bed, if this comes down to a fight. Okay? I know this is all overwhelming for you and I wish you didn't have to endure this at all. But Andre is right, you worked way too hard—that’s a lot of money. Too much to just let go of.”
“I understand…” he nods “thank you for all of your help. I know I've said it already but I really don’t know what I’d do without everything you guys have done for me.”
Henry squeezes his shoulders with a sigh, “anything you need, we’ll figure it out together.”
Dylan goes to get some of Andre’s prescription and a water bottle when Denis says,
“we’ll make plates for the both of you and wrap them up. Unless you want to eat yours now?”
“It’s okay, I’ll wait for him.” he smiles softly before making his way to their bedroom.
Sometimes Dylan catches himself feeling guilty for loving Andre and his family so much…but then he just reminds himself that he deserves to love people who love him back.
Even if he’s always thought otherwise.
