Chapter 45 Breathe, Ursula.

Chapter 45 Breathe, Ursula.
"Found it!" the nurse dashed in with a plastic bag of drip.

"What took you so long? She's already passed out!"

"Sorry, I w-"

"Quick, connect the IV, there's no time to waste" the head nurse ordered.

Needles went in multiple times into Ursula's wrist till a vein suitable enough was found.

"Elevate her head" the head nurse commanded.

Ursula lay still.

Her olive skin had turned as pale as that of a vampire's.

The heart monitor beeped.

And then, a long unending beep.

The nurses' eyes widened.

"I think we should call the doctor" the head nurse said.

And one of the nurse scurried towards the door, bumping into medical trays that fell to the ground on her way out of the door.

As she stepped out, she bumped into Ethan.

"Ugh! Sir!" she exclaimed, regaining her balance.

As she was about to continue running off, Ethan held her wrist.

"Tell me. What's happening? How's my baby? How's she? Tell me!"

But the nurse quickly pulled her hand out of Ethan's.

Time was ticking.

She ran off.

"Hey!" Ethan called out.

My child is definitely gone. Something has happened to my heir. Ursula will rot in jail. Ursula did this on purpose despite everything I have done for her. Ursula, how dare you?

His forehead was filled with droplets of sweat despite the air conditioning.

He swiped off the sweat and ran his fingers through his hair.

He stared hard at the door.

He couldn't hear the nurses' voices.

His breathing was faster now.

His fist tightened.

Then, he pushed the door open.

"Ursula!" he called like he'd call one of his servants whenever they didn't bring his food on time.

The nurses' stared at him.

His eyes fell on Ursula who lay lifeless on the bed.

Pale.

His attention was then taken to the sound of the heart monitor.

This can't be.

"Sir, you need to leave right now!" the head nurse ordered.

"What is wrong with her? Is my child okay? What is...is she....dead?" Ethan asked scanning their faces.

She couldn't be dead. This is probably one of her stupid attempts to run away after terminating my child or something.I know it. I know.

"Sir, we can handle it. We need you to give us space. We've already sent for the doctor" the other nurse answered.

"I demand an answer. What about the child in her womb? And is she-"

"Immediately, please the way" the doctor who had just rushed in said, the third nurse running behind him.

"Here he is" the head nurse said.

"Excuse me, Mr Ethan Blackwood, you need to leave. Please."

"No. I deserve to know. I demand to know what's going on here"

"Sir, as you can see, her life is on the line. We don't have any more time. Let us save her life. You have to leave... now" the doctor hurried his words, eyes darting from Ethan to Ursula.

Ethan's eyes turned to Ursula.

Then, the retraced his steps out of the emergency room.

"Ethan?"

He raised his head.

Camilla.

"What's happening, Ethan? What's wrong with Ursula? Is she fine?" Camilla asked.

"I-"

His phone buzzed, interrupting him.

He reached out into his pocket.

He looked at the screen.

UNKNOWN NUMBER.

Ethan sighed.

And pressed the side of the phone, silencing the call and putting the phone back into his pocket.

Do I even have the right to complain? Is this my karma?

"Ethan say something, you're not talking. I'm scared...what about her? Ursula." Camilla continued.

She watched his shaky hands.

She noticed the sweat dropping from his forehead.

I don't understand what has happened. Did she die or something? Why are his hands shaking?

"She's...her heart..is no longer beating" Ethan managed to say, his hands even more shaky.

Camilla couldn't hold in the smile that was about to peek out the side of her lips.

So, she held her hand over her mouth and gasped as a disguise.

"What?" she said in a shrill voice.

"They said they'd try to save her...but I don't think the child is... anymore...and I fell like she did this on purpose to get back at me" Ethan said, a tear dropping from his left eye.

"Ohh my god, Ethan. This is so crazy. How would she do something like this to you?!" Camilla said, holding his shoulders.

"Camilla...I deserve this...right? Everything that's happening to me, I deserve it"

Camilla immediately cut eye contact.

Well, I believe that everything happening to you will teach you to make better decisions.
Taylor was the woman for you..if you had stayed with her, you could have just listened to her and adopted. She would never hurt you.

"Ethan don't say that" Camilla said, reaching out to wipe the tear from his eyes.

His phone buzzed again.

"Listen, everything will be fine" Camilla added.

A notification sound.

Then, another.

And again.

It didn't stop as if it was trying to keep up with the seconds.

The doctor came out, sweating.

"Doctor?" Camilla said.

Ethan turned, slowly.

His feet felt as heavy as lead and his shoulders felt stiffer with each notification sound.

The doctor's expression was grave.

His eyes stayed on the floor even though Camilla spoke to him.

"Doctor, how's she?" Camilla asked, trying to peek through the blurred door glass.

Ethan watched carefully.

He expected only the worst at this point.

Then, the doctor exhaled and started.

"I am very sorry"
