Chapter 44 THE INCIDENT

Chapter 44 THE INCIDENT
Ursula turned and twisted around.

She held her breath in.

Stretchers, nurses, sound of an ambulance siren.

She no longer knew where she was.

She sat up and vomited again, falling back down on the stretcher harshly.

Ethan's lips curled up in disgust as the vomit was all over his hair down dripping down his shoulders and chest.

But still his hands vibrated as he tried to steady Ursula's legs that flung here and there.

The nurses holding the stretcher walked very fast.

Ethan kept up with their pace.

"Emergency ward 100" one of the nurses said in a shaky breath.

Ursula gnashed her teeth and groaned.

She was now panting.

She could hear ringing in her ears.

All her body felt like a heavy blanket was placed on it.

Her forehead burned.

She felt sweaty and it irritated her.

It was as if the sky was collapsing in on her.

"5..4..3..2..1 Go!" the same nurse said as they all lifted her out of the stretcher at once and onto the bed.

Some nurses began to examine her.

The others folded the stretcher away.

"Please, what's happening to her. How's she? Is she fine? How's my baby?" Ethan said, his voice and hands shaking too much for his liking.

The head nurse looked at him almost like he was crazy.

"Why is he still here? Sir, you have to leave while we attend to h-" the nurse said.

"Hey, look she's my wife, okay? That's my baby she's carrying in h-" Ethan continued, cutting in.

"Sir, you have to calm down and excuse us. Please, let us do our j-"

"Save my child. Please. Nothing should happen t-" Ethan persisted.

"Sir, we don't have much time. I understand how you feel but we can still fix things if you just cooperate with us, okay?" the nurse explained in a very hurried pace, breath unsteady.

Ursula lay on the black leather bed, writhing and twisted in pain, vomit almost all over body and blood stains on her gown as she squeezed.

The other nurses who had just put away the stretcher came closer to Ethan and held him by the shoulder trying to pull him out of the emergency ward.

Ethan's eyes stayed glued on Ursula.

Is this my punishment for hurting my own parents? Is this some type of karma? Why does she never ever listen? Always going off like that and now this?

"Please, sir" one of the nurses who was trying to pull him but to no avail finally said.

Ethan walked out, making the nurses realize that they had actually been trying to push him out in vain.

The nurses immediately rushed towards Ursula as he left, circling her.

"Change your gloves, please" the head nurse said to the other nurses.

"Okay"

The head nurse quickly pulled Ursula's gown out of her body, lifting Ursula when she needed.

She took the familiar cold gel and rubbed it all over Ursula's tummy rapidly.

She put the rolling ball scanner over Ursula's tummy, her eyes on a screen abover her.

"Mmmhhh" the nurse said as she rolled the ball of the stomach of Ursula who would even stay still.

"Ma'am, I know how you feel, please just breathe" the nurse said, eyes still locked on the screen.

The nurses rushed back with changed gloves on their hands and a box of gloves so that the head nurse could change hers also.

"My belly ..it hurts...I'm sorry, I made a mistake...I fell" Ursula mouthed with eyes tight shut as she gasped for air.

"I think she's asthmatic... quick! Get the oxygen" the head nurse commanded.

Everyone moved fast.

Hands hovered over Ursula who lay bare body on the leather bed, twisting herself and now in a midst of a crisis.

Soon, she stopped to gasp but still twisted her body, in pain.

Consciousness soon left her.

"She's passed out!" the nurse alerted.

"Give her some analgesics"

"Where is it?"

"Check the other drawer"

The nurses panicked, running around.

Ethan placed his head against the door.

Did she take something? She tried to abort my child. I'll make sure she spends the rest of her life in jail.

The door banged his head.

He shifted backwards holding the side of his head that was now throbbing with pain.

"Sir, please you need to leave here, she'll be fine" the nurse said, breathing fast and then walked away quickly before Ethan could even say a word.

He stared hard at the door as if staring harder would make the door see-through.

Ursula now lay still as if she was lifeless.

The other nurses who were still there with her seemed restless.

One checked for a pulse.

One monitored her breathing.

The other kept searching the drawers for the analgesics.

Ursula's heart monitor began to beep in an unfriendly manner.

"Oh my god. Why is Nurse Theresa wasting so much time?" the head nurse spat.
