Book 5: Chapter 45 – An Unexpected Call
Book 5: Chapter 45 – An Unexpected Call
Alexandrios’s POV
I watched my mate sleeping peacefully with a faint smile playing on her luscious lips swollen from my kisses. It has been almost three days since we checked into this hotel. Three days of unlimited se. It seemed we were under a love spell with no rush to go anywhere. Although Cerelia hadn’t confessed her feelings for me, I could feel her love in everything she did.
In the last three days, there has been a drastic change in her attitude. She understood me so well, I hardly had to articulate my needs to her. She had matured as well, trying to be more giving than taking. Yet I didn’t dare to address the elephant in the room. I still had no idea what she was planning to do.
I tried hard to postpone the talk. Therefore, I hadn’t booked our flight tickets to Athens yet. Strangely, Cerelia didn’t remind me at all. It gave me hope, which I clung to for the last three days.
“Xandrios!” she murmured in her sleep.
It brought me out of my dazed state. The sun was already up and it was time to wake up to a brand new day. Would she want us to leave today? I just crossed my fingers, hoping she wouldn’t. Although I knew this wasn’t a permanent solution, it was my only time with her. I wanted to make the most of it. If she opted for Athens, these moments would be the only ones left with me for the rest of my life.
I didn’t want to think about it. Picking up the phone, I ordered breakfast for us. For the last three days, we didn’t even venture out to eat or explore Whitehorse. What if Cerelia changed her mind and wanted to leave? Therefore, I kept her engaged in a mating spree. She was sore the last time, and I allowed her ample rest. I knew she had this amazing ability to recover after a little nap.
She opened her beautiful eyes and smiled at me shyly. It was enough to take my breath away. My cck responded with a fervor that left me hard and craving a repeat.
A knock on the door made Cerelia jump and rush to the washroom.
“Relax, it’s just breakfast.” I was excited that she didn’t mention a thing about leaving. Could we stay another day?
‘I want her again,’ reminded Rio, still reeling from last night’s knot. After he forcefully took over, I allowed him to mate with Lia. Ever since he has been under her spell, demanding a repeat.
‘Sure, but after me.’
The breakfast was heavenly, but anything tasted better when you’re ravenous.
“Mm, now I realize how hungry I was!” she moaned, chewing the pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and berry sauce.
“That’s why I ordered extra. We can have it in parts.” She blushed, knowing what I meant. Yet she didn’t protest and my wolf purred with happiness. The sound echoed inside me and I was sure she could hear it, too.
My phone buzzed with an incoming call from the hospital, and I quickly disconnected it. I didn’t want Cerelia to see. It would bring her out of the mating daze, and back to reality. Somehow, deep in my heart, I felt guilty for neglecting my duties for so long. My patients and my hospital needed me so badly. Ever since I took over, I hadn’t ever been away from the hospital this long. But I couldn’t leave without settling Cerelia and ensuring she was safe. My happiness, my wishes, didn’t matter here.
I was her mate, but I wasn’t a selfish mate to tie her to me against her will. I believed in freeing my mate. If she loved me, she would stay by my side all her life. My love for Cerelia wasn’t selfish.
It was unconditional.
My phone again buzzed, and this time, it was Stavros. I sighed and disconnected the call. Maybe they wanted me in Lucania. I couldn’t face their questions now and disrupt the magical bubble I had created with Cerelia.
“Who needs you so much today?” She chuckled when my phone buzzed for the third time. This time it was from an unknown number.
“No one needs me more than you do.” I disconnected the call with a chuckle, eager to have her pinned underneath me.
“Is it?” She winked, popping a piece of strawberry into her mouth.
I rose to taste her strawberry-kissed mouth.
“Yeah. Don’t you need me like I need you?” I sang, and she blushed, making my cck harden. “The scent of your arousal is in the air, baby.”
My phone buzzed with an incoming call from the same unknown number, and I groaned. “Who the fck is this?” I scowled at the number.
“It seems someone else needs you more than I do. Why don’t you take the call to find out?”
The call disconnected on its own, and I released a sigh of relief. Who wanted to attend to an unknown caller when I had other important things to do?
“Maybe he isn’t so needy. So, what are we waiting for?” I gripped her hand to pull her up when my phone again buzzed.
“Damn, who the hell has a death wish now?” I checked my phone and groaned at the sight of the same unknown number. There was only one way to stop the caller. I accepted the call gingerly.
“Hello,” said an elderly male voice from the other end. A sense of dread spread over me the moment I heard him. Who was he? “Am I speaking to Dr. Vasiliou?”
“Yes, this is Dr. Alexandrios Vasiliou. May I know who I’m talking to?” I waited for him to speak, but there was silence at the other end. Was he a patient?
“You won’t know me, Dr. Vasiliou. I am Alpha Cassius Belmont from the Silvermane Warriors of Pieria, Mount Olympus. I received a call from Alpha Alexios Vessezac. He gave me your number. Is Cerelia with you?”
I froze, my heart thumping loudly in my chest, realizing who he was.
He was none other than Cerelia’s extended family from Greece. He wanted to snatch my mate away from me. I immediately regretted taking the call. He wouldn’t ever have found us if I hadn’t accepted his call.
I turned to see Cerelia watch me with wide eyes. So she had overheard everything.
“Yes, she’s with me.” I sighed, unable to lie.
“That’s a relief. I am Cerelia’s grandfather. We’ve been looking for her ever since we received an emergency call from her father, Cedrik. It has been almost a month, but he isn’t taking our call. That’s when we sought Alpha Alexios’s help and he informed us about Cedrik’s death. He also told us about Cedrik’s daughter. Please, can you forward me your location? I’ll send you two flight tickets to Thessaloniki. Can you bring my granddaughter to me? I’ll reward you generously.”
My heart filled up with indignation at his insulting words. Why couldn’t my mate stay with me? Shouldn’t he have asked Cerelia what she wanted to do? “I don’t want a reward, Alpha. If Cerelia wants to visit you, I’ll bring her over.”
He scoffed, not liking my words. “Don’t play games with me, shifter. Just hand the phone over to her. I want to talk to my grandchild.”
I didn’t like his tone, but there was nothing I could do. I handed the phone to Cerelia. All my hopes crumbled to dust. Now I knew she wouldn’t want to stay with me. She would surely want to meet her family.
“Grandpa,” sobbed Cerelia with relief, and my heart sank more with hopelessness. “I thought I was all alone in this world. My Dad died, grandpa.” She switched on the speaker mode and sat in front of it, wiping her tears.
“Hush, child. It happened so suddenly, he couldn’t inform us. He called us before his death and we’ve been looking for you everywhere for a month. Now that we’ve found you, we can’t afford to lose you. Can you send me your location? I’ll book two tickets for you to Thessaloniki. From there, you’ll take a few hours to reach our palace in the Pieria, Mount Olympus, Greece.”
I sighed, watching her eyes light up with happiness. “Yes, Grandpa. I’ll send you right away.” Without waiting for my approval, she sent our location to her grandpa.
“Did you get it, grandpa?”
“Yes. I’ll disconnect the call to book the flight tickets.” He sounded so different from when he spoke to me. Was he just like Cerelia’s dad? Did he hate shifters too?
I felt angry with Alpha Alexios for giving us away. He was doing his job, but it would separate us forever.
Cerelia handed me the phone with excitement, totally forgetting about our predicament. “I’ve found my family, Xandrios. Can you believe I have a family of my own? I’m the happiest wolf on earth today.”
I watched her with a sad smile. Did she forget me? I was her family, too. I had dreamed of starting a family with her. Didn’t she realize that?
My phone buzzed with a message, and I checked. There were two tickets to Thessaloniki.
“Oh, my gosh! The flight is in two hours, Xandrios. Hurry!”
My entire world crashed around me. I hated my life now.
