Chapter 178 Confronting the Wells Family!
Chapter 178 Confronting the Wells Family!
On Friday evening, Julian waited downstairs at VelocityTech for Violet.
Violet and Julian went to a nearby French restaurant.
After sitting down, Julian skipped the small talk. He pulled a brown paper envelope from his briefcase and pushed it across the table to Violet.
"Violet, I came to see you because there's something from the past I need to tell you. Take a look at this," Julian said, his face serious.
Violet opened the envelope. It held several pages of documents and a few photos.
She went through them one by one, her face growing paler with each page.
The papers laid out the details of the charity dinner from seven years ago, including hotel room change records, transfers from a rich businessman's private account, and screenshots of emails between the Wells and the businessman's middleman.
"What is this supposed to mean?" Violet looked up, her voice tight.
Julian met her eyes, a trace of concern showing. "That night seven years ago, your drink was spiked. The Wells set it up. They took money from a rich businessman who had his eye on you. They agreed to create an opening at the dinner so he could get to you. But something went wrong—the waiter sent you to the wrong room, Adrian's room."
Violet's fingers tightened on the papers, nails pressing into the sheets. "The Wells?"
"The businessman was a partner of Wells Industrial back then. They took five million from him," Julian said evenly. "They had the whole thing planned out. They even bought two kinds of drugs so it wouldn't look obvious. Once the businessman took you away, they were going to send Adrian and Quinn to a room together. That way you'd lose your reputation and Quinn would take your spot. But the wrong room ruined everything."
Violet's hands started to shake.
Five million.
The Wells had tried to sell her like a product for five million.
If the waiter hadn't messed up, she would have ended up with some old man she didn't even know—
She stopped herself from thinking further.
"These documents..." Violet's voice was rough. "How did you get them?"
"I've been looking into it," Julian said plainly. "After what happened with Caleb, I thought the Wells were too clean, like something was off. I had someone dig, and they pulled up what happened seven years ago. That businessman went to jail two years ago over another case. His private ledger turned up, and one transfer matched a shell company tied to Wells Industrial."
Violet set the papers down, leaned back, and closed her eyes for a moment.
She had never thought she was just a piece the Wells planned to sacrifice.
"Violet." Julian softened his tone. "I know this hurts, but you should know the truth."
Violet opened her eyes. "Thank you."
She gripped the envelope. "Can I take these?"
Julian nodded. "They were meant for you."
Violet stood up and took a deep breath. "I owe you for dinner."
"The Wells owe me an explanation. I'm going to ask them about it." She turned to leave.
"I'll go with you," Julian said, standing too.
Violet shook her head. "This is my problem."
She gave him a quick nod of apology and walked out fast.
Julian watched her go but didn't follow. As she reached the door he said quietly, "Violet, be careful."
Then he called Adrian and told him to head to the Wells.
Violet drove straight to Verdant Manor, the Wells family home.
When she rang the bell at the villa gate, Elsie opened the door.
She had come home from the hospital to recover and looked fine, nothing like someone dealing with a rejection reaction.
Elsie saw Violet standing there with a dark expression, paused, then frowned. "Violet? What are you doing here?"
Violet ignored her and pushed past into the house.
"What are you doing!" Elsie followed. "I didn't say you could come in."
Violet stopped in the middle of the living room, turned, pulled the documents from the envelope, and slapped them on the coffee table. "Elsie, take a look at this."
Elsie's eyes landed on the papers and photos, and her face changed at once. "You... where did you get these?"
"Seven years ago you took five million from a rich businessman to set me up," Violet said, her voice cold. "If the waiter hadn't sent me to the wrong room, you would have pulled it off."
Elsie's lips trembled, but she quickly hardened. "Violet, what nonsense is this! These are fake. You had them made up!"
"Fake?" Violet gave a cold laugh and pulled out another page. "This shell company account shows the date from seven years ago. Want me to call that businessman right now and ask if he knows the Wells?"
Elsie's face went white.
Footsteps sounded on the stairs. Robert and Quinn came down.
Robert glanced at the papers on the table, then at Elsie's pale face, and felt a jolt. "Violet, you..."
He tried to speak, but Elsie snapped. She glared at Violet. "So what if we took the money? Who do you think you are? Without the Wells, you never would have married into the Hart family. You should be thanking us!"
"Thank you?" Violet almost laughed. "Thank you for trying to sell me to that old man's bed?"
Robert jumped in. "Violet, don't be like that. Back then, if things had worked out with the businessman it wouldn't have been so bad. Reed Corporation was in trouble. He was older, sure, but he would have treated you well and he really liked you. He was widowed too. Marrying him could have helped the Reed family out of the crisis."
Violet stared at Robert, eyes full of scorn. "Robert, do you even deserve to be called a father?"
"Violet, stop acting like the victim!" Elsie grew louder. "If you weren't greedy, why drink that glass? You were probably eager to climb into that businessman's bed yourself. You got lucky and ended up in the Hart family, living the high life all these years, and now you're bringing up old dirt?"
Robert grabbed her arm. "Enough!"
"Am I wrong?" Elsie shook him off and pointed at Violet. "If she hadn't been flirting with him, he never would have come to us. How is that my fault?"
Violet shook with anger. "So you admit you took the money?"
"So what if I did?" Elsie smirked. "It's been seven years. Even with evidence, the time limit is up. You can't touch me. And even if you show this to Adrian, who do you think he'll believe—you or us?"
Just then, steady footsteps sounded behind them.
Everyone turned. Adrian was walking in.
