Chapter Seventy-Six
Cassandra's POV
After being looked over and prodded on by doctors and nurses for hours, I was released to go home. Hearing them say that I could go home, after weeks of being away filled my heart with so much joy— and sadness.
Zachary told me that Silas wasn't here, at first thought he died and had a minor panic attack. He had to reiterate what he said and I was finally able to calm down when he said he was alive and safe with my brother. I was confused at first, then I remembered that I had an older brother. One I never knew I had.
My happiness didn't last very long after we arrived at the pack house. There were so many people there to welcome me back. But with that haunting song playing on repeat in my head, and the voices of multiple people. Well it sent me back to that warehouse.
I made a quick escape upstairs and into the first room I found. It wasn't mine, nor was it one of the three men that has hovered over me since I woke up. I wished it was Silas' room but it wasn't his either. It was just a guest room with two twin sized mattresses, a wardrobe, dresser and a tv mounted on the wall. But it got me away from all the noises for a few minutes.
A soft knock jolted me back to reality and I uncovered my ears and looked up as it opened. I rested my head on my knees when one of the former Alphas entered. Wyatt was his name. And his two sons–especially Zachary, looked just like him.
"Hey Cassie," he murmured with a soft smile on his lips.
"Hello sir." I mumbled, not really in the mood to talk or be around anyone. But I didn't want to be rude and tell him to get out. So I gave him one of my mastered fake smiles, or what felt like one.
"Call me Wyatt, I insist." he chuckled scratching the scruff of his facial hair on his chin. "My mate has asked me to see if you're hungry? She made her delicious waffles and fried chicken strips." his eyes lit up at the mention of his wife's food. I wish I could make someone feel that exact way about the things I cooked. But let's be real—I am a shit cook. I'm barely good at making a grilled cheese sandwich for Silas, let alone any of my mates.
I quickly tossed the thought of pleasing anyone's appetite, when I noticed a certain black head of curls step up behind the beautiful former Alpha. Levi. I quickly looked away and shook my head and answered in a small tone. "No thank you, sir–I mean Wyatt. I'm not hungry."
Well, that's a damn lie. I shoved Petra out and put my block back into place. I hated it when she spied on my thoughts and what I was feeling. I loved her, but she was infuriatingly annoying.
"Well alright, do come down if you change your mind." It wasn't an order, but it made me nod in agreement. I noticed out of my peripheral, him leave, leaving Levi standing there. Staring at me with a narrowed gaze. He was angry. If it was at me, I wondered what I'd done wrong this time.
"I'm sorry" my gaze shot up and his green eyes collided with my grey ones. Before I could muster up the words to ask why he was apologizing, he stepped into my personal bubble and closed the door behind him. My eyes then snapped to the closed door and my heart rate quickened in my chest. Seeing my reaction to what he did— or feeling it. He twisted the handle and opened the door, leaving it cracked a bit and my anxiety went down drastically.
"Thank you..." I told him and he nodded once.
"May I?"I pointed to the bed in front of me and I swallowed, but nodded. Levi took the seat at the end of the twin sized bed and smiled. I averted my gaze, hating how it made butterflies ripple in my stomach.
"Would you like me to call and ask, Scott–"
"No!" I shook my head. "I don't need his help, I'm fine."
"Cassie.." he sighed.
"I said no. The only thing I want from Scott, my brother–is my son." I've been asking them for almost a week now to see him, and yet here I am. Without my baby boy.
"If it helps, he's a fast learner. Has nearly bested Bailey in fire magic." my chest hurt, he was there without me, and he was thriving. Just because I know who I am, doesn't mean that gives Scott the right to take my son away from me. If anything, he should have returned to me the day I awoke.
I curled my hands into fists as I narrowed my eyes to the carpeted floor in front of me. I could give two-shits about royal rules and what-not. He was mine, and they had no right to separate him from me. A low grueling sound flowed freely from my chest and I noticed Levi flinch.
I groaned and pulled Petra back once more. She's worse than me when it comes to that sweet boy of ours. Definitely more protective that's for sure.
"Brooklyn is–"
I rolled my eyes. "You make it seem as if I'm not aware of how serious things are for her. That travels only would make it worse. But..." I released my legs and stood up from where I was sitting. you all make it seem as if you, your brothers, or your mother cannot go get him."
"We never said we couldn't." he answered softly.
"Then why haven't you?" I felt as if I couldn't see him myself, that my unbearable wolf would lash out at the next person who denied us this request. I couldn't explain why I felt this strongly, but I chalked it up to a mother and her pup, deep down I know it wasn't illogical with what I was feeling, others have felt worse, I'm sure.
"Because you're not ready. You're refusing to eat, not sleeping, and won't let us teach you how to use your magic properly." Levi said calmly. Him being so calm was making me more frustrated.
"Why would I want to learn how to use it? It didn't help me when I was being led into a trap, nor did it keep Angela from stabbing me." He stood up and took a step closer to me, I took two back only to hit the wall behind me when I went to take one more. Levi stopped and held his hands up.
"Sorry." he murmured.
"If no one will bring me Silas...then I want to be left alone. By everybody." I said softly, my wolf whimpered because she enjoyed it when any of them were around. She enjoyed scenting them when we sat in silence.
"You don't mean that." Levi said his eyes filling with hurt.
I looked down at my hands. "I do." I lied. I think. I knew I wanted to be left alone, but at the same time I wanted him near. I groaned internally at hated how confused this mate bond made me feel. Before the hunters I was fine with how it and them made me feel, but now? Now I was ashamed. My time with those hunters, I was ridiculed and called such ugly names for being one woman with three different men who were bonded to me. They made me feel like such a whore. And when I allowed Theo to watch me do to myself during my heat, well that only solidified that shame.
"Look me in my eyes and tell me to leave. Because truthfully? I don't think you should be alone right now. Not when your emotions are all over the place." He sounded like he was angry, but deep down I knew his anger wasn't directed at me.
I blinked multiple times to rid myself of the burn of tears forming in my eyes. I gathered the courage to finally speak, and looked up. My voice died in my throat at the single uncharacteristic wet streak going down him handsome face. I'd not ever seen him cry before. None of them actually. And seeing Levi do just that broke something inside me.
Levi took a step towards me and I didn't stop him this time. "I know you're angry and want to see Si. But please know that we only wanted what was best for him. Sitting there day-after-day with you in the hospital and him refusing to go to school, it wasn't good for him." I nodded, I knew that. Of course I knew that. "I promise that when the baby is born, Mom will bring Silas back with her."
I looked back down at my hands and sniffled. "I've only had one day with him in months. He and I have never been apart from each other, never."
"I know," He murmured and gently took my hands in his, stopping me from picking at my nails and cuticles. A nervous habit I developed while I was with George. I bit my lip to keep it from trembling when Levi engulfed me in a hug. One of his warm hands was on the back of my hand and the other rubbed my back in gentle strokes.
"Talk to us. We don't know how to help you heal if you won't tell us what's going on. My brothers and I only want what's best for you, you know this." I answered him by lifting my arms and wrapping them around him. The unshed salty tears finally fell, unable to hold them back any longer.
We stood like this for a while, and deep down...I allowed it to comfort me while I stood there captured in his warm embrace.
