Chapter Seventy-Two
Jordan's POV
I sat in a chair off to the side in the room my mate was currently in. Doctor Uriel decided it best to place her in a medically induced coma, he said it would help her body heal. And hopefully help her wolf too.
It isn't like we've not been here before. Both my mother and my baby sister have been in direct contact with diomeranium and oleander and are walking around. Granted my sister had died but not due to the poison to her wolf and her magical abilities.
But I don't know how my dads or Scott dealt with the not knowing.
Levi has buried himself in Alpha duties, constantly leaving the pack to deal with other Alphas and border patrol. He's also been over in the Crystal River Pack a lot too. He hasn't shared why, but I think he's just wanting to know everything he can from Vernon and his little minion Garrett. The man who pretended to help Cassandra.
We didn't want them staying in our cells because our parents feared we would kill them without questioning them. And after he hid the things he knew about Cassandra none of us trusted Otis to hold them. So we asked Alpha Harold and his Luna Kylie to hold them for us until we knew what to do with them.
Come to find out Alpha Harold was able to figure a few things out for us. It was Garrett's nephew that had infiltrated our borders and told Vernon everything about Cassie. How she didn't have a wolf and how she was mine, Levi's and Zachary's mate.
A nurse walked in and gave me a slight now then went over to where Cassie lay. She then did a few routine checks, drew some blood. That caught my attention. Cassie has been here going on three days and they've not once drawn blood from her. Well except her initial admission.
"What's that for?" I asked and got up.
"Oh, this? Her doctor asked for some blood to see if the wolfsbane was out of her system yet."
Of course that's what it was for. How could I have forgotten such a simple thing? After she got a few things of blood she turned to me, bowed her head again then left. I walked the rest of the way over to Cassandra's bed and sat down beside her. I couldn't help but smile as I took her hand in mine and relished in those sparks that flowed through both of us as I held her delicate hand.
Jax, my wolf came rushing to the forefront so he could see her too. But deep down I knew he just wanted to meet her wolf. If she had died he would have felt it. She was still there, she's very weak and can't talk to us because her human counterpart was asleep. But I knew if she could she would definitely tell us she was alright and that everything would be as it was.
Wetness coming from Cassie's eye caught my attention, so I reached up and swiped the tear away.
"Jax how is—"
"She is scared. Something she's dreaming about is making her upset." I jumped hearing Scott's voice.
"What?" I turned and stared at him as he leaned again the doorframe.
"I can read yours and her thoughts. Well, her dreams actually. Cassandra is having a nightmare." he murmured. I nodded, he normally didn't share the things he heard in our heads. Usually he teased my sister about her neurotic thoughts due to the pregnancy brain but lately it's only been Cassie he listens in on. I think it's so he knows she's still there, so I didn't question his motives.
"Yeah, I'd have nightmares too after the things she's been through." I said and turned back to my mate. We don't know what happened, and I'm not sure I want to know. But if it helps once she's awake then I'll listen.
The lamp beside the bed began flickering. I growled, it always did that. Not sure if it's the wiring or the lamp itself, but now wasn't the time for it to piss me off.
Scott chuckled and came over. "Don't growl at my sister's way of communication. I just told you she was having a nightmare, of course there's gonna be some type of reaction. Magically I mean."
Scott pullan item from his jacket pocket and I stared down at it as a wave of magic hit me. "What is that?" I questioned.
"This brother," He took his sister's hand and wrapped the item around her wrist then placed the object in her palm and closed her hand around it. "Is a magical totem. It's been in our family for centuries. It was once told that it was crafted by the very first magical and supernatural beings."
"What?" I looked at the relic he wrapped around Cassie's hand and I was in awe.If you just saw it at a distance you would think it was a religious item. Which it kind of was due to what we are but I suppose it is very different. The chain which was shimmering in the light was a beautiful gold color. I went to touch it and it stung my fingers. "Why does it hurt me and not her?" I asked him curiously.
"As I told her, she's Moon Blessed. This chain was made from the moon itself. That's why there's silver in it. But thanks to the witches that helped craft it, it won't hurt her. And this.." Scott smiled as he gently took the totem from her hand and showed it to me. "This was made of the blood of werewolves, vampires, Lycans, witches and warlocks and the very first dire wolf. But the thing that makes it powerful, is the Faye blood that is in it." I stared at the totem, my wolf seemed to also be in awe over the relic and bowed his head.
"My wolf just bowed to the damn thing! And aren't fairies a myth?" I raised an eyebrow at him in question.
"No they died out just as the vampires did. But because society back then, we are all a little bit of Faye. Mixed races were allowed in the old days. My kingdom was once ruled by a Faye King and a Lycan Queen. But when the last Faye, King Cyrus, died so did their legacy."
"And what is this supposed to do? This little..." I eyed the relic. "This headless horseman?"
Scott chuckled. "I guess after centuries of being passed down it's got its wear and tear. But it's supposed to be the symbol of each mythical being."
He pointed at the thing that looks like a man. "That is the Faye, this is the werewolf." he pointed to the half moon the man—or faye—was holding in his right hand. "This piece here is for lycan and dire wolves." he pointed at the stallion, or what I thought was the stallion.
"It looks like a horse." I muttered. But I guess since Lycan and dire wolves are equally bigger than us werewolves then I could see why that price represents them.
"and the vampire?" I looked up wondering what peace represented the nightwalkers. Scott smiled and turned the totem over. The entire backside was red. A deep blood red. "The blood of our immortal friends was mixed with wolfsbane, vervain, oleander, dimeranium, and ashbane."
"Ashbane?" I looked up and stared at him.
"Like oleander can kill us Lycans, and vervain the vampires, silver for werewolves and demaranium–if enough is used–it can kill a witch. But ashbane can kill any supernatural being. Thankfully our ancestors made sure all of it was destroyed in the great fires."
"I seriously need to come to France and do more research." I thought I said it in my head but I was so stunned by this new knowledge that I said it out loud.
Scott nodded his head slowly while securing the totem in Cassie's hand again. "This will connect her with those who made it. They can guide her back to us and hopefully it will strengthen her wolf to help heal her from the poison in her system.."
He sighed. "I gave Brooklyn a family medallion that my great-grandfather had made and blessed after she returned to us a few years ago. She communicates with the goddess through it when she's having a bad day or needs a reason to keep going."
"I thought that she was doing better?"
"She is. But those are her feelings and I'm helping her through them. So for now, let's worry about my sister." I nodded, although I was curious about the problems my baby sister has. I thought she was happy and didn't worry about anything but her family and Kingdom. But like Scott said, let's worry about one person at a time.
"How long are you here for?"
"We leave tonight. We were supposed to be gone three weeks ago. And Brooklyn is about to give birth. She wants to be here with your mother but I don't want to leave her here without me."
"Take me? When she goes into labor I can bring you all back in an instant. Besides the flight alone could send her into premature labor." I tried to not worry, but Brooke was only a couple weeks away from popping. And I know she was scared, I've seen it in how she holds her belly when a loud noise happens. She's paranoid and I know it's her just being here that does it. This is where all her best and worst memories happened.
"No, you guys stay here. Stay with her." he nodded his head down to his sister.
"Besides, I think Bailey is also wanting to come with us. She and Evan are thinking of coming so that they can be there with us when Brooke goes to have the baby.
"Tyler would really love that!" I smiled. My nephew has always wanted to visit France or stay the summer with his favorite aunt and uncle. Besides, since Tyler will be our next Alpha, he could learn a lot by being there.
"I was thinking the exact same thing." I rolled my eyes, I hated it when he purposely listened to my thoughts. However I loved the guy like an actual brother.
"Take Silas with you. He's gonna be the next Beta." I smirked.
"What? The kid was born to a warrior." Scott chuckled and shook his head.
"Yes he was. But his mother is a princess and a Moon Blessed dire wolf. He can't be our Alpha because that's always been Tyler's. But he can be the next Beta alongside our next Alpha. I can tell you with all my heart that Tyler and Silas will do wonders for this pack."
Scott looked at me. A sparkle in his eyes. "I thought Brad's child would have been the next Beta?"
I shrugged. "Brad hasn't found his mate. Quite honestly, I believe that he is into men rather than the women he flaunts around with. So I don't see that happening anytime soon." I smiled as I squeezed Cassie's hand.
For now, it seems we have nothing more to worry about. So for now we wait and see if this totem that Scott brought will help siphon the poisons from her body. Easy peasy I guess.
