Chapter 151 Blood and Broken Vows
Chapter 151 Blood and Broken Vows
Rosalie‘s POV
Connor's face went pale as he realized what he'd just admitted. "I came to tell her to leave me alone. But I couldn't—the Bond just overwhelmed everything."
"And instead you ended up with your dick inside her," Wynter finished coldly. "Yeah, that really sends a clear message, Connor."
Evangeline stepped forward, her amber eyes glinting like liquid fire in the moonlight.
"The Mate Bond doesn’t play by human rules," she purred, voice dripping with venomous sweetness. "Connor is mine. You? Just a fleeting itch he’ll forget by dawn."
She tilted her head, fangs glinting as she delivered the final blow: "Go ahead, have your little chat. But remember—no one fights fate. And the bond? It always wins."
With that, she turned and melted into the shadows, leaving only the echo of her threat hanging in the air.
Then Wynter's hand found mine, squeezing gently. "Rosalie," she said quietly, "do you want me to stay? Or do you need space?"
I looked at my best friend—at the fierce protectiveness in her eyes, the way she was still positioned between me and Connor like a shield, the love and support radiating from her—and felt something crack in my chest.
"Space," I whispered. "Please. I need—I need to do this alone."
Wynter hesitated, clearly torn between respecting my wishes and her instinct to protect me. Finally, she nodded. "Okay. I believe you can handle it well."
"Thank you," I managed, my voice breaking on the words.
Wynter gave Connor one last warning glare—a look that promised violence if he hurt me any worse—then walked away, leaving me alone with Connor.
We stood there in the moonlight, maybe ten feet apart, an ocean of hurt and betrayal stretching between us.
"Rosalie," he started, his voice raw. "I never wanted to hurt you. The Bond—when I'm near her, I can't think straight. It's like drowning."
"You promised me, Connor" I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "You swore to me."
"I know." His hands clenched into fists at his sides. "But the Bond isn't just attraction. It's a biological imperative that overrides everything. When I'm near her, all I know is this overwhelming need—"
"To fuck her," I finished flatly. "I got that part. I saw it."
Connor flinched. "It's like every cell in my body is screaming that she's what I need to survive."
"And what about me?" I asked, tears streaming down my face now. "What about us? Does that just disappear?"
"No!" Connor's face twisted with desperation. "God, no. I still love you. My feelings for you are real. But the Bond is stronger. It's primal. It doesn't care about love or promises."
I stared at him, at this boy I'd given my heart to, and felt something fundamental shift inside me.
"Then we can't do this anymore," I said quietly.
"What?"
"We can't be together. If you can't resist it, this is only going to keep happening. You'll keep hurting me, and I can't—" My voice broke. "I can't keep watching you choose her."
"I'm not choosing her!" Connor's voice rose. "I want to be with you, Rosalie. You're the one I love—"
"But she's the one you fuck," I said bluntly. "And that's not going to change, is it?"
Connor opened his mouth, then closed it, unable to deny the truth.
"So we end this now," I continued. "Before I have to watch you fall completely in love with her while pretending you still want me."
"Rosalie, please—" Connor moved toward me. "We can fight it together—"
"No, we can't," I interrupted. "You've proven that. And I won't be the girl who waits for her boyfriend to finish fucking his Mate before he comes back to me."
Connor's face crumpled. "I—" he started. "Rosalie, I wasn't trying to— I'm sorry—"
And then he was moving, closing the distance between us in two long strides, his hands coming up to frame my face.
"Please," he whispered. "Please don't leave me. I can't lose you—"
His mouth crashed against mine, crushing, desperate. His tongue swept into my mouth and for one terrible moment I forgot why I should be pushing him away.
I forgot the image of him with Evangeline. I forgot the betrayal. All I knew was the familiar taste of him, the heat of his body pressed against mine.
Connor's hands slid to my waist, pulling me flush against him. I could feel his arousal—still half-hard—and I found myself kissing him back, my hands fisting in his shirt.
His mouth left mine to trail kisses down my neck. "I love you," he breathed against my skin, his hands sliding up under my shirt. "God, Rosalie, I love you so much—"
He backed me up against a tree, the rough bark catching on my shirt. His hand moved to cup my breast through my bra, thumb brushing my nipple until it hardened.
Heat flooded through me and I gasped, arching into his touch despite the voice screaming that this was wrong.
His mouth found mine again—hungrier, more desperate. Then his hand suddenly dropped to the button of my jeans.
Reality crashed back in.
"Stop," I gasped, pushing at his chest.
Connor didn't seem to hear, his fingers working at my button. "Please, baby. Let me show you—"
"Connor, stop!" I shoved harder, putting real force behind it.
He stumbled back, eyes glazed and unfocused. For a moment he just stared, and I saw awareness return—saw horror flood his expression as he realized what he'd been doing.
"I—" he started. "Rosalie, I wasn't trying to— I'm sorry—"
"Yes, you did," I said, fixing my shirt with trembling hands. "You were trying to use sex to make me forget."
He stopped, unable to finish the lie.
I took a deep breath. "I meant what I said, Connor. We're done. You need to be with your Mate. And I need someone who can actually choose me."
"Rosalie—"
"I'm serious," I interrupted. "This is me choosing myself. Choosing my dignity."
I started to walk away, but his voice stopped me.
"I do love you," he said quietly. "That's real."
I looked back at him—at this boy who'd been my first love, my first everything.
"I know," I said softly. "But love isn't enough when you can't keep your promises."
I paused, swallowing hard. "You can't give me trust or commitment while the Bond pulls you toward her. So this is me letting you go. Not because I don't love you, but because I love myself enough to know I deserve better."
Then I turned and walked away, my legs shaking but my spine straight.
