Chapter 86 - Fated to the cursed Alpha
Embry
I sat on the chair in the nursery, which was the room opposite ours. The baby was coming in our room to start with, but we still wanted a place which was all his. I was glad we managed to get everything we needed all in one go. I doubt those delivery men will be wanting to come back anytime soon.
I tried to help with a few bits, but each time I moved someone escorted me back to my seat. Blair and Kala were putting away all the clothes and dressing the cot and bassinette to go into our room. While the men were hard at work putting together the bigger pieces of furniture, moving drawers and cabinets.
“I feel like a spare part sitting here guys” I moaned.
“Well you're not, you are doing the one job none of us can do!” Ryder shouted from behind a piece of wood.
“And what would that be? Making sure this chair can take the weight limit it says on the packaging” I dropped my head back to the back of the chair.
“You are cooking up our future Alpha. The final piece to the room, so technically you are helping” He poked his head around the side of the wood that was blocking him from me, smiling widely.
Every now and again, Kane would walk past me like he is doing right now. “Everyone ok?” He used to ask me if I was ok, but now he says everyone, I know why. He's checking on me, the baby and my wolf. They all seem to think my wolf has some weird connection with anything that poses a threat to me and the baby. Which is why she can see people when they are invisible. I'm under strict orders to tell Kane when she's on edge or feels like something isn't right. They weren't wrong, I had built a great bond with my wolf recently, even I didn't know how far her powers stretched.
“We are all good” I smiled.
The room was coming together nicely, it was hard to believe our baby boy was going to be here in a matter of weeks. I looked at the smaller boxes that were in the corner of the room. It was the steriliser and bottles that needed to go downstairs. I pushed myself forward and out of the chair, waddling over to the boxes, I picked up the steriliser and studied the box.
“That needs to go down to the kitchen. I'll take it when I've done this”, Kala offered.
“It's OK, It's not heavy. I can take this and the bottles” I said, picking up the other box that was next to the steriliser.
“Kala's got it, you rest,” Kane said as he walked to my side.
“Kane, if you make me sit back in that chair I swear to god, I'm going...” I began. He could see I had already had enough of sitting around.
“OK, OK!” he raised his hands, “I just want to make sure your OK”
“I know, and I love you for that, but I feel like this baby has walked further than I have these past few weeks. I'm going to the kitchen. We are safe in the house, right. If I feel something is off, I will call out for you straight away”
“I'll just come with you, it's Ok” He tried to take the boxes from me.
I shook my head at him, “No, you still have the furniture to put together, I will be fine! I'm going down if you follow me I'm going to be pissed”. I wiggled my finger at him. He looked to the side at Kala. I knew his game. “That goes for if anyone else is sent to check on me on your behalf too”, I added.
He rolled his eyes. “Fine, but do what you've got to do, then come straight back up please.”
“ Where else do you think I'm going to go?” I snapped. “Sorry” I exhaled loudly as I pinched the bridge of my nose.
“It's ok, look I don't want to be too overbearing for you, I just like to know the both of you are safe” He leaned down and kissed my lips softly.
“I know, I love you” I kissed him back before leaving the room and heading down to the kitchen.
I put the boxes on the side and began to unpack the steriliser, setting it out neatly on the counter. I took the instructions and began to read through them, I had never used one of these in my life. I flicked the page over and began pulling the plastic bags off the pieces and setting it up as instructed in the pictures.
I was in my own little world when something move in the corner of my eye. Straight away the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Something didn't quite feel right. I was about to shout Kane when Rose walked around the corner, walking through the doorway of the kitchen.
I held my chest as I took a deep breath of relief. “Oh, Embry I'm sorry did I startle you, I didn't mean to” Rose panicked as she saw my reaction.
“It's ok, It's just me, on edge a lot recently” I smiled as I looked back at the instruction manual in my hand.
“Well I'm not surprised, Kane is worried tremendously about you, until all this with Victor is solved I think You will always be looking over your shoulder” she was right.
“I think we all will” I hummed to myself.
“I know I am” she answered as she put another box on the counter. “If only I could do more to help”
I looked up at Rose “Rose, you've done what you can. Like you've said it's the magic that surrounds him.”
“I know, He will get what is coming to him, and when he does I hope Kane makes that man suffer like nobody has suffered before” she seethed through gritted teeth.
I smiled as I watched her clench her fists in front of her, acting like she was strangling someone. “Now that, that is out of my system, I will leave you in peace and go finish helping the girls” she smirked and turned to leave the Kitchen.
As I turned back to what I was doing there was a cold breeze that flew past me. I whipped my head up to Rose who was just leaving the Kitchen, Hearing a loud crack. She lifted from the floor and flew back over the top of the counter where I was sitting and crashed into the back wall. The cupboards and all their contents smashed to the ground. “Rose” I gasped as I stepped back looking around, there was nobody. I couldn't sense anything, My wolf was ready to attack but this time there really was nothing.
“Kane!” I screamed as loud as I could. As I felt something cold again, this time it was me that was hit. I heard Kane shouting for me, banging and crashing coming from upstairs. I shouted for him once more before doing the only thing I could. Which was stepping back letting my wolf come forward. She was disorientated, struggling to focus on anything. Something was being used to confuse her, she always managed to pinpoint whoever was here but this time, she had no clue.
Another blow landed on my face, as I stumbled to the side something gripped my hair pulling me back as another blow hit the opposite side of my face. I kicked out hitting something, sending it into the front of the sink.
I was pushed back to the wall, my hands were restrained, something heavy was on my legs, I couldn't move at all. I felt hands around my neck, squeezing tight. I began to gasp for air as my throat closed, My wolf roared as she pushed as hard as she could, I pulled one hand free managing to cut someone with my claws.
Slowly I was beginning to move more and more, snapping my teeth forward I bit down hard on something. Taking a chunk I spat it out onto the floor. It was flesh, I may not be able to see much but I could smell the blood. Swiping my claws in the direction of the blood I cut someone's throat. As they came to light dropping to the floor in front of me.
“Embry” I heard Rose croak as she began to move. I struggled harder, I wasn't sure how many people were around me. All I knew was there was a lot, I wanted to keep them off of Rose, she didn't have the abilities we had.
I was pushed to the ground next to Rose. I was free once again to move, not knowing where everyone was now I tried to listen for them, for just the slightest bit of movement.
Footsteps, they were approaching the kitchen, Slowly one by one man began to appear like they were no longer hiding. I growled as my wolf eyed them one at a time. Up until eight men stood across the room from me. That when their scent hit me, the sour rotten meat smell, tainted magic mixed with dirty rogues. So this is what Victor has resulted to.
The footsteps made it to the kitchen, I looked at the door waiting on who was going to walk through. Part of me knew it was going to be him, Victor.
“You have caused me a lot of trouble you little Bitch” He growled as he walked in the room. My Wolf straight away went to attack him, not hesitating once.
“No!” I heard Rose shout from behind me, we were so focused on going in for the kill we failed to see the gun in his hand. He raised it firing several shots at me, I had no time to react, I had no time to even think. I just stumbled to the ground as everything went black.
Kane
“I still don't see why you brought a wardrobe when you have a walk-in closet in here,” Blair asked motioning to the doors beside her.
“It was part of the set, we never chose it, Blair,” I told her for the fourth time.
“She's just jealous the baby's going to have more wardrobe space than she's got” Ryder laughed.
Blair shrugged as if she already knew what he was saying “Who wouldn't be!” She answered in a high pitched voice. “As favourite Auntie, I think he should share some of his closet” That was it. Blair and Kala began squabbling over who would be the favourite Auntie.
I laughed, ignoring them, while we finished. I stood up holding the screwdriver, about to pass Ryder the back piece of wood ready to screw it in. I caught the scent of something strange, something small, hardly noticeable but it was there.
As if my wolf knew something, I lunged the screwdriver out in an upwards motion. Stabbing something hard, I felt blood drip down my fist. Slowly a large man came into view holding a silver dagger. Everyone in the room went quiet as I pulled the screwdriver out and the body dropped to the floor.
“Kane!” I heard Em scream from downstairs. Without thinking I jumped over the piece of furniture and ran for the door. As I was about to exit I was thrown back, clear across the room. Ryder landed next to me as the same happened to him also.
“Kane we can't get out” Blair panicked as she tried pushing past the invisible wall blocking the door.
Kala stepped in from of me and held her hands up, chanting something quietly to herself. " can you break it" I asked.
"I don't know" she shook her head.
like a doll that weighed nothing she flew across the room, Ansel shifted as quick as he could and caught her just as she was about to hit the wall.
I began to throw things at the doorway, punching it as hard as I could but nothing was penetrating it. Ryder and Ansel were trying the windows, “their not budging” Ansel growled as he pushed on them with all his might.
I could hear noises coming from downstairs, I shouted out calling Em's name. I knew she was fighting. I pulled my phone from my pocket Ringing Foster. Luckily the phone worked and he answered.
“Foster we are under attack at my house. We are all trapped upstairs but Someone has Embry downstairs. I want everyone here, I need to know she is ok, Protect her”
“Yes, Alpha!” He shouted, I could already tell he was running. Within seconds I heard howls and roars coming from outside. The pack were on their way, “Please get to her in time” I whispered as I dropped to my knees.
“Alpha Kane on his knees, now that is a sight” Victor walked to the doorway smiling.
I got up running to the door, I was stopped instantly. He was just out of my reach. “I swear to god you touch Embry, I'm going to rip your throat out” I felt my eyes change, my wolf wanted blood, his blood, now.
"screw you, Victor!" Kala shouted as she walked back by my side. she had a bloodied nose, placing her hands back on the invisible shield.
"don't" I pulled her back. "it's too strong"
"I need to try just once more" she pulled herself away from me, closing her eyes she began chanting once more.
“silly girl, try not to hurt yourself dear" he laughed in a high pitched tone.
"Embry!" I shouted again, I couldn't hear her.
"my men are down there having their fun with her, leave them be” He smiled. He looked around the room behind me, “So this is what has kept you occupied all this time. Gave me a chance to get this” He held up a cream coloured pouch. It looked like animal skin, very old.
“I don't care, let me out!” I shouted.
“Are you not the slightest bit interested in what it is, all you have to do is one tiny thing and then I'll let you out” Victor laughed as though nothing else was going on around him.
“What?” I asked through gritted teeth.
“Sign it!”
“What is it?” I asked.
“Take a look” Victor placed it on the floor a pen placed neatly on top of it and slid it through the doorway towards me.
I picked it up taking the pieces of paper out of the strange-looking folder, It was the deeds he wanted. It was all true. Scanning through the pages one thing caught my eye, under the current ruling, my father had signed everything over to me the day before we fought. “He knew he was going to die, signed the lot over to you and hid the papers, luckily I had a hunch where they were” Victor spat. “Sign it over to me before it's too late” He ordered.
“No, You're not getting shit off of me until I have Embry by my side!” I shouted. Throwing the papers down on the ground.
Victor smiled as he looked behind him “Take a whiff Kane, give it a moment to break the barrier” He held one finger up waiting for me to click onto what he meant. He kissed the tips of his finger like a french chef. “Delicious” he whispered.
That's when I got it, so did everyone else in the room. Blood, not just any blood it was Embry's blood.
