Tangled with the Enemy
Tangled with the Enemy
The dorm room was silent when Lena stepped inside with Graham and the Alpha twins.
Lily’s bed was unmade, a stack of textbooks scattered across the desk.
Maya was perched on a beanbag chair, her arms crossed and eyes narrowed. Eliza sat on the edge of Lily’s bed, worry etched into every line of her face.
Lily’s eyes, normally bright with mischief, were dark and stormy.
“Lena,” she said sharply, “where have you been all day? We’ve been trying to reach you since morning!”
Maya added, her voice tight with frustration,
“You had us worried sick! We thought Ethan might have done something to you.”
Lena froze in the doorway, every instinct screaming to run — but she couldn’t. Not now.
She forced herself to look apologetic, letting her shoulders slump and her eyes drop to the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered, voice trembling just enough. “I…I didn’t mean to worry you all. My phone died and…I panicked. I didn’t know what to do.”
Lily’s glare softened only slightly.
Graham stepped closer, his voice calm but deadly serious.
“Don’t worry, Lena. After today, Ethan won’t dare come near you again.”
Lily’s eyes snapped to Graham.
“What do you mean ‘after today’? What did you guys do?”
The room went dead silent.
Lucas and Liam shared a glance so quick it was almost imperceptible — but Lena caught it. They were trying to decide how much to reveal.
Lucas cleared his throat, a forced casualness in his voice.
“We…had a talk with him.”
“A talk?” Maya repeated, her eyes narrowing suspiciously. “What kind of talk?”
Liam chuckled, the sound strained.
“A very clear, direct one. We told him exactly what would happen if he kept bothering you or anyone else.”
Lily’s gaze hardened.
“What did you do?” she demanded, stepping closer to Lucas. Her fingers balled into fists at her sides.
Lucas forced a smile, slipping an arm around her waist.
“Relax, Lily. We didn’t do anything extreme. Just words. He got the message.”
Maya crossed her arms.
“I don’t believe you.”
Liam grinned, trying to defuse the tension.
“What? You think we roughed him up in some dark alley? Please, Maya. We’re gentlemen.”
Lily’s frown deepened, but Lucas leaned in, pressing his lips to her temple and murmuring something too soft for anyone else to hear.
Her shoulders relaxed, the anger fading from her eyes.
He pulled her into a hug, and when he started tickling her ribs, a shriek of laughter burst from her lips.
Maya rolled her eyes but cracked a smile.
“You two are ridiculous.”
Graham chuckled, moving to sit beside Maya. He nudged her playfully.
“You’ve got to admit, it’s nice seeing them happy.”
Lena stood frozen near the door, her nails digging into her palms as she watched Lucas cradle Lily like she was something precious.
Hatred burned through her chest, white-hot and blinding.
Every laugh that echoed around the room felt like a knife twisting deeper into her heart.
Eliza’s gaze drifted from Lily and Lucas to Lena, lingering on her face.
For a moment, their eyes locked — and Lena knew. Eliza saw it. The rage. The jealousy. The truth she had fought so hard to bury.
Lena looked away quickly, forcing her face into a mask of worry.
“Lena?” Eliza asked quietly. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Lena said sharply, a little too quickly. She took a breath and forced herself to soften her tone. “Sorry, I’m just…shaken up.”
Lucas let Lily go long enough to glance over.
“You don’t need to worry, Lena. We’ll keep you safe. Ethan won’t come near you again.”
“Yeah,” Liam agreed, his voice deceptively light. “And if he does, we’ll make sure he regrets it.”
Lily looked between them, her brow furrowing again.
“I don’t want you guys doing anything stupid. That’s exactly what he wants — to provoke you into something that could get you expelled or worse.”
Lucas lifted an eyebrow.
“Expelled? Over a conversation?”
Lily glared at him.
“You know what I mean.”
He smirked, leaning in to kiss her cheek.
“We’re not idiots, Lily.”
Maya huffed.
“That’s debatable.”
Laughter rippled around the room, breaking the tension.
Maya leaned forward, her eyes bright with curiosity.
“So, what did you actually say to Ethan? Come on, give us details.”
Graham threw his head back with a groan.
“Maya, let it go.”
“No way,” she shot back. “I want to know exactly what scared him off.”
Lucas grinned, eyes dancing with mischief.
“Let’s just say we made it very clear what would happen if he didn’t get lost.”
Maya arched an eyebrow.
“That’s not an answer.”
“Details, details,” Liam said breezily, waving a hand. “The important part is: he’s gone.”
Lily sighed, leaning against Lucas’s shoulder.
“I don’t like this. Violence is what he wants. It’s his excuse to get you in trouble.”
Lucas tightened his arm around her.
“Nothing is going to happen. We won’t let it.”
Lena’s chest burned as she watched them. She could almost hear Ethan’s voice in her head, ragged with pain and fury after what they had done to him.
"They’ll pay," Lena told herself. "All of them. But you have to be patient, Lena. Play your part."
Eliza’s eyes flicked to her again, sharp as a blade.
“Lena,” she said softly, “are you sure there’s nothing else you want to tell us?”
For a moment, the room seemed to hold its breath. Lena lifted her head, met Eliza’s gaze head-on, and smiled sweetly.
“No,” she said, her voice soft and steady. “I’ve told you everything.”
A burst of laughter from Liam shattered the quiet tension. He had stolen Lily’s hair tie and was twirling it dramatically around his finger.
Maya was laughing at his antics, and even Graham chuckled under his breath. Lucas leaned in, kissing Lily’s forehead with a quiet murmur that made her giggle.
Everyone was laughing now — everyone except Lena, who sat rigidly on the edge of the bed, her eyes fixed on the Alpha twins and Lily, hatred simmering in her gaze.
Eliza watched her, her expression unreadable, as the laughter echoed around them.
