Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Logan's pov
Entering my aunt's office instilled a sense of determination within me. I realized I needed to persuade her to convince my uncle to allow me to marry Brianna.
"Aunt Martha, there’s something important I need to talk to you about," I began.
My aunt gazed at me, one eyebrow slightly elevated. "What is it, Logan?" she inquired.
I took a breath quietly, as if warming the icy thoughts that were to be collected in my mind. "It's regarding Brianna Conners," I said at last. "I understand that Uncle Marcus will surely oppose my marrying her, but I was simply wishing you could persuade him."
I noticed the doubtful look on my aunt's face. "Logan, I'm not sure that's a great idea," she remarked. "Your uncle is quite stubborn, and he won't change his opinion easily."
I nodded in recognition, grasping her meaning. "I understand that, Aunt Martha," I said. "However challenging it may be, I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to make this work, as I believe Brianna and I can bring each other joy."
My aunt looked into my eyes. "I trust you, Logan," she stated. "However, convincing your uncle isn't going to be simple either." He harbors a great deal of anger and resentment towards the Conners family, and he won't want to witness you marrying into that family.
I nodded completely in sympathy with my uncle's emotions: "I understand that, Aunt Martha," I replied. "However, I am ready to collaborate with him to seek a solution that makes this feasible." Could you assist me, Aunt Martha? Could you please speak with Uncle Marcus and attempt to persuade him to alter his decision?
She glanced at me, partially easing in tone. "Alright, Logan," she responded. "I'll talk to your uncle and find out what I can do." "However, you must assure me of one thing."
"What is that?" I inquired.
"My aunt remarked, 'You simply need to promise to be cautious.'" "Come on, you can't trust the Conners." "You will definitely get hurt."
I nodded, indicating that I understood her. "I shall, Aunt Martha," I replied. "I assure you that I'll be cautious and that I'll take every measure necessary to ensure this succeeds."
My aunt grinned and seemed at ease. "Alright, Logan," she replied. "I'll speak with your uncle and find out what I can do." However, in the interim, you have to exercise caution. You must be cautious and ensure that you aren't getting involved in anything that might harm you or your loved ones.
I nodded, recognizing my aunt's worries. "I will, Aunt Martha," I replied. "I assure you that I will be cautious and that I'll do everything needed to ensure this succeeds."
My aunt grinned, appearing relieved. "Alright, Logan," she replied. "I'll speak with your uncle and find out what I can manage." However, for now, you must proceed with caution. You must be careful and ensure that you avoid situations that may harm you or your loved ones.
Nodding was also a response to my comprehension of my aunt's statements. "To you, Aunt Martha," I remarked. "Don't be concerned." I assure you I'll exercise caution and will take the steps needed to ensure this takes place."
My aunt gave me a smile, appearing relieved. "Alright, Logan," she replied. "I will speak with your uncle and find out what I can do." "However, you must exercise caution in the meantime."
I nodded, experiencing a feeling of appreciation toward my aunt "Thanks, Aunt Martha," I replied. "I truly value your assistance."
My aunt beamed, appearing friendly and caring. "You're welcome, Logan," she responded. "I only want what's right for you, and if that means marrying Brianna Conners, then I will fully support you."
My heart often raced with excitement while waiting outside George Conners' office. My family was not only beside me to present marriage proposals to George, but I was also feeling nervous about how he would respond to what we had to offer.
My uncle, Marcus King, was by my side, his expression grave and solemn. My aunt, Martha King, was positioned next to me, her expression serene and collected.
We were all in our best outfits, and we planned to give George a small present as a gesture of our kindness too.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door to George's office.
Leaning forward on his desk, he squinted when he noticed us standing there.
"Ah, the King's family," he remarked with a hint of sarcasm. "I have been waiting for you, please enter."
We walked into the office where George had already pointed out where to sit. We proceeded to do that, after which I started to clarify the purpose of our visit.
"Mr. Conners, we are here to discuss the potential of a marriage between Logan and your daughter, Brianna," I said, aiming to be as respectful and genuine as I could.
George lifted an eyebrow. "A wedding, you mention?" "Between my daughter Brianna and Logan King?"
He stared at me with such a cold and calculating demeanor. "I'm sorry, but that can't be done," he stated. "My daughter will not marry into a family like yours." A family with a background of dishonesty and treachery.
Micheal King, my uncle, rose to his feet; his face was bright red with rage. "How could you!"
he stated, the voice trembling with anger. "You have no authority to talk to our family in that manner."
George grinned, a grin that was both icy and shrewd. "I possess every right," he stated. "Your family has been a pain for me for years, and I won’t allow you to marry into my family without a struggle."
The argument intensified with my uncle and George Conners now yelling at one another. I attempted to step in, but they all ignored me.
My aunt, Martha King, rose with a countenance as expressionless as a mask. "Please, gentlemen," she said. "This is neither the time nor the place for a dispute." "We arrived here to talk about a marriage proposal, not to argue."
George and my uncle gradually relaxed. Their faces remained flushed with anger.
"I’m sorry," remarked the icy and methodical George. "However, I will not be influenced." "My daughter will not be wed into your family."
I remained firm and stated, "I understand your concerns, Mr. Conners; however, I promise you, I'll do everything I can to ensure Brianna's happiness; and I hope you'll grant us your blessing afterward."
George gazed at me with icy, analytical eyes. "I will never give my blessing to either of you," he declared, "But take note: If you wish to wed my daughter, you must demonstrate your worthiness to me."
I nodded, radiating a feeling of resolve. "I accept your challenge," I responded. "I will do whatever it takes to demonstrate my worth to you, Mr. Conners."
George grinned, a grin that was icy and strategic. "I’m excited about it," he said.
