Chapter 74 Chapter Seventy-Four
Chapter Seventy-Four
⚓️⚓️⚓️
Zeke
Her reasoning was so carefully explained, that I couldn't help but ponder over it.
Rogue-brids were known for their craftiness. What if he was just playing us, and his goal is something entirely different?
“Uhh,” Kai groaned, palming his face. “I wish we could go back in time, and know what actually happened. This is just so messed up.”
I agreed with him.
“I-” My lips parted, when Gwev suddenly sprang up. He looked around the large hall warily.
“Someone is here.” He said, and bent to sniff the ground. His eyes gleamed brightly when he rose to his feet again.
“Would you rather I bring you out myself?” I asked from my position.
I already knew who it was. His aura radiated through the hall.
“Nice to see you again, Prince Zeke,” He laughed, emerging from the walls.
“It's good to see you in good health too, Kaleb.” I retorted, not meaning any of it.
Kaleb was my enemy. They were the exiled part of the Dark realm; the Evens.
He took a seat, crossing his legs leisurely. “Don't you guys think it's unruly not to invite me to a meeting that concerns the future of the Dark realm?” He asked, and I arched my brow.
“What are you playing at?” I was ready to punch the fucker's face if he said anything provoking.
“Some Rogue-brids attacked Paradisia days ago,” His voice lowered, an angry look briefly crossing his eyes.
“What?”
“Yeah. Roanna is injured. I'm here to ask for your help.” He said solemnly.
“And why would I help someone who tried to backstab me?” I retorted, trying hard not to relive memories of the past.
His nose flared. “That wasn't my doing, I was framed.”
I was about to reply with a more hurtful statement, when Kai cut me off.
“How did the Rogue-brids find Paradisia?” He asked.
I watched the Even in front of me closely. I couldn't detect any insincerity, which made me frown. He wasn't lying.
“Beats me. I was out that day. Roanna tried her best, but ended up being overpowered.” He exhaled.
“Well, it's been a while since we shared the same enemy. He took away my woman.” I narrowed my eyes.
“What?” Kaleb repeated.
I narrated what'd happened weeks ago in the dimension Kai had created. How Xavier had taken away Mirah right under my watch.
By the time I was done, Kaleb's face was as stoic as he usually looked whenever he was angry.
“I know you wouldn't trust me easily. But this war needs all the power to be on the winning end. We'll get Mirah back.” He said, and I subconsciously gripped the edge of the chair hard.
“You're in, then.” I said, seeing no reason not to allow him to join. His kingdom had also been attacked by the Rogue-brids. That meant he wanted to kill Xavier as much as I did.
“I'll be on my way. I can't leave Roanna for long.” He rose to his feet.
“Our regards to the Queen.” Gwev called out, as Kaleb disappeared through the walls.
Kai waited for a while, before turning to me. “Do you think he's lying?”
“I can't tell. We just have to watch him closely.” I said.
They all nodded.

Mirah
I twirled my finger, marveling at the flame that appeared on its tip. I could feel something different inside me. After my encounter with that woman weeks ago, I'd been trained by Roanna and her son; Kaleb.
At the moment, I was sure I could hold my own against any vampire. Or Rogue-brid.
I sensed a presence at that moment, just as the door kicked open and Roanna walked in. She was dressed in a flowing gown as usual.
“Mirabella dear,” Roanna smiled, going over to sit on the edge of the bed.
I was still looking at the wall. “Wouldn't you like to come out now?” I called out.
Someone chuckled, before coming out through the walls.
“I'm glad to see that your magic is improving,” Kaleb said, his eyes gleaming. He turned towards Roanna. “Mother.”
“Welcome Son,” Roanna nodded at him.
I couldn't help the sudden feeling that sprouted in my mind. It was almost as if the both of them were communicating with each other. And it made me feel uncomfortable.
“When is the war with the vampires starting?” I asked, interrupting their exchange of glances.
Kaleb turned to me. “Anxious to kill your boyfriend?” He asked.
Boyfriend?
I hated myself for ever liking someone as inhumane as Zeke. And I'd be forever grateful to the Evens for saving me.
“Very soon, Destined...” Kaleb said, his voice getting distant, and distant.
I was getting dizzy, and even my legs felt wobbly. Everywhere was changing. I couldn't feel my powers anymore.
When I opened my eyes again, my heart dropped down to my legs. I recognized the aura of the place immediately.
It smelt like death.
Evil.
Hatred.
“You look beautiful in that dress, Princess.” I heard Xavier say, and a low growl escaped my lip.
“Get out of my head.” I spat, my brows knitting in fury.
“Aw, such a pity I can't. I'm stuck with you. What is that power I sense in you?” His voice dropped down, and chills crept up my spine.
I didn't respond, my hands working on the ropes that bound my hands together.
“I'm not your enemy. I'm just an average human girl. Why are you so obsessed with me?” I asked, in a bid to divert his attention.
“I told you, Princess. Your role is very important in this intricate puzzle of mine. Only with you, can I hope to bring them down.” He laughed, but I frowned.
I caught something different in his words. He usually referred to Zeke whenever he was talking about the war.
But this time, he used ’they.’
Who were the people he was referring to?
“I don't see how I can be useful to you, Xavier.” I said boldly.
“You can quit trying to untie yourself. The ropes would only tighten up.” His cold voice made me flinch, and my fingers turned numb.
That bastard.
“I won't waste your time, Princess. Tell me who took you away, and where I can find them.” He said, and I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of his words.
