Chapter Seventy-Three

                 Mirah

It rejuvenated me. Changed me.

I spread my arms, welcoming the strange aura. I thought I heard Roanna say, “Yes. It is finally about to begin!”

Or maybe I was imagining things. And when I finally got down from my moment of haze, the memories of Zeke that I had left, were only the ones that induced hatred.

‘Wait for me, Zeke. You'd die by my own hands.’

…

I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my lips curling. I looked like a royal, in a red flowing gown, and a white crown on my head. My blue jade eyes matched the blue necklace on my neck. The beautiful dress was slit on both shoulders, revealing a bit of my skin, and allowing the material to fall in waves down my hands.

I twirled around, liking the confidence that came with my new look. I glanced down at the ring on my finger, trying to recall where I'd gotten it from. But I gave up after two attempts.

“You look stunning. More stunning than Roanna,” I heard Kaleb say from the door side. The servants bowed, and left the room.

“As I should.” I smiled coldly, feeling odd as the voice didn't sound anything like me.

This wasn't me-

Wait-

“Yes, just like a Destined should look like.” Kaleb words cut through my thoughts, and I forgot what I was thinking about. I scoffed in response.

“Come along now. We need to be early for your first lesson. Your teacher isn't a patient type.” He stretched out his hand towards me.

I blatantly ignored it, and moved towards the door.

“And how are you going to get there?” I heard him ask behind me.

I snorted, and forced myself to turn and face him. “Whatever. Lead the way.”

He winked, and moved forward, his lips moving, but I couldn't hear his voice. He placed his hand on the doorknob, hesitated a little, before pulling it open.

A dark energy buzzed from the other end, and I couldn't help but shiver. Nevertheless, I followed him through the door.

I looked straight ahead, liking the structure of the large room. Someone walked in then, and I stood at alert.

“She's the Destined? She looks…young.” The owner of the voice was a young woman with blonde wavy hair, and dark green eyes which seemed to glow as she spoke.

As she stared at me, it seemed like she was staring right into my soul. I jolted.

“She is. Hurry up Eve, Roanna doesn't want any mistakes.” Kaleb said nonchalantly, then he turned and made to leave.

“I'll pick you up in three hours.” He called back to me, as he disappeared through a door.

Left with the lady, I focused on remembering how to breathe.

“Our first lesson is Shedding off emotions.” She said without mincing words.

“I-”

“By the time we're done with this lesson, whatever hatred you have in you, will double by a hundredfold. It's only with a hateful mind would you hope to achieve your purpose.” She said.

And though her words weren't making sense to me, I didn't interrupt her.

“Go over there, and sit on that chair,” she gestured at a chair that was in the middle of the room.

I obeyed without hesitation. Once I sat on the chair, I jolted. Something clasped on my head and legs, holding me down.

I looked up to see her smiling cynically. She produced a wand, and while I was marveling at how she did it, I heard her say,

“Good. I'm going to transform you into a puppet for our use.” Her maniacal laugh sounded in the large hall.

My eyes widened.

Puppet?

What puppet?

I tried moving away from the chair. “Let me go!” I growled.

Did I fall into a trap?

“Too late sweetheart. Don't worry, we won't harm you. Infact you'd enjoy the ride. You'd also get to kill Zeke just like you wanted.” She smiled again.

My heart turned numb.

Kill Zeke? When did I say that?

She waved her hand slowly in front of my eyes.

“M.i.r.a.b.e.l.l.a?” She called out slowly.

My head turned as I watched her, totally dazed.

“Don't you want to kill Zeke?” She asked slowly.

“Mm?” I mumbled absentmindedly.

“Say it, Mirabella. Do you want to kill Zeke?” She asked.

I nodded. “Yes. Yes, I want to kill him.”

My eyes were slowly slipping shut.

“Good,” I heard her say. “Now, sleep. When you wake up, all you'd remember is that we're good people. Your purpose is to kill Zeke, and bring back the Source to us.”

Her voice was getting distant, and I felt a painful force on my chest.

A scream tore up my throat.

Yes, I had to kill Zeke.

I had to bring back the Source to the Evens.

Yes… Yes…

I was the Destined.

                  Zeke

“Something isn't right,” I voiced out my thoughts aloud. Natasha adjusted her position on the chair, while Kai moved away from her.

“I feel the same too. Everything is moving too smoothly. And Xavier hasn't attacked in a while.” Gwev seconded.

“Didn't you say this place is masked by a certain magic, and no one can find us here?” Kai asked, and I turned towards Gwev.

“That isn't even my line of focus. Zeke, what is the Circle like? The Heart, I mean?” Natasha asked, and I frowned. My brows knitted together, finally relaxing when I understood what she was talking about.

“Everyone's too calm. Too calm for my liking. It's almost as if this isn't a war.” Qyle put in, stroking his knuckle.

It has already been weeks since Mirah was taken away. And though I'd wanted to go after her immediately, Kai had reasoned that it might be a bait by Xavier. I'd fought down the urge to go after her, until we carefully crafted out a plan to take down Xavier once and for all.

“Guys, I've been thinking. First, Xavier began killing some weak vampires, while making it look like a rogue vampire did it. And then he sought out Mirah, and turned her against Zeke, thereby making Zeke lose focus,” Natasha turned to me.

“What if Xavier is after something we don't know about? From the power I sensed in him, he's probably a millennium years old. I think he's after something that the Circle knows about. And that could be the reason they've gone into hiding.”
