Chapter Seventy-Five

               Mirah

”You must think I'm stupid, King Xavier. Why would I voluntarily give you such information?” I asked, without mirth.

“Right. You wouldn't give me voluntarily, but I can make you.” He waved his hand lightly, and I felt a jolt in my belly.

A sudden pain crept up my thigh, upward to my waist. Beads of sweat coated my forehead, but I didn't let out a sound. I wracked through my mind, trying to remember a few of the spells I've been taught. He smirked, and his irises glowed brightly.

He advanced towards me slowly. “You know, I hate hurting you. Yet, I love seeing you in pain. The sight of your tears always arouses me.” His voice was hoarse from desire, as he stopped right in front of me.

“Now, let's do this again. Who took you away?”

“Castica min!” I growled loudly, and a force threw him back.

He almost fell to the ground, before he regained balance.

”How-” Disbelief marred his features, as he looked at me.

With the ropes untied, I rose to my feet. ”Surprised? It's such a beautiful sight. The king of Rogue-brids almost overthrown by a woman.” I didn't get all the words out, when he suddenly appeared at my front.

He gripped my neck, exerting pressure. My eyes dilated, and I whispered another spell.

“Vig de.”

This time, he actually yelled as he was thrown off balance. I felt a sudden bout of power fill me and I closed my eyes relishing its feeling.

I floated in the air, looking down at Xavier who had a look that could kill on his face.

“You don't deserve any advice from me. But I'd advise you anyway. Stay away from me. I'm going to find a way to take off this ring, and I hope you rot in hell.” I spat.

I closed my eyes, willing myself to go back to Paradisia.

★★★

Two pairs of worried eyes were staring down at me when I woke up.

“Roanna?” I murmured.

“What happened? You were out for ten days.” Kaleb put in worriedly.

My frown deepened, as I sat up. “Ten what?”

That was new. Whenever I had an encounter with Xavier and I came back, minutes would've passed in the real world. But this time, I spent ten days?

I looked intently into Roanna's eyes. “Tell me, are there any side effects to using this power?” I asked, frowning again.

”You used your powers? Against whom?” Roanna asked, looking me over. Her kindly face was masked with a little frown.

“Answer me please.” I insisted.

She was about to answer, when someone dashed into the room.

“Your Highness, some people have intruded. They claim to be here to see Prince Kaleb,” The guard said, panting.

“Who are they?” Roanna asked, rising to her feet.

Kaleb responded this time. “Zeke and the others. They took the bait.” He laughed.

My eyes narrowed into slits. That explained why my heart was beating fast. I looked up towards the ceiling.

Zeke was here.

I sprang up to my feet without warning, dashing through the walls. This time, I was going to kill him without fail.

“Mirabella!” Roanna called out behind me, but I ignored her.

They were waiting outside. I didn't spot him at first, Kai and someone else blocking my view of him. And then I finally saw him.

He was dressed in a black pants and black shirts, a cloak draping down his back. His gray eyes found mine, and I thought I saw a pained look in them. He was more handsome than the last time I saw him.

Too bad he was about to breathe his last. And by my hands too.

“Mirah,” He called out softly, as if he couldn't believe his eyes.

I called out for a sword using the spell Roanna had taught me. It came to my hand naturally.

“How did you get here? I t-thought Xavier took you. Thank God you're safe.” He said, his voice cracking.

I ignored his rambling, as I advanced towards him,

I swung the sword upwards. “Cali indila. Die!!” I growled, slashing the sword at his neck.

His eyes widened. “Mirah, you-”

I swung the sword again, totally seeing red, when I felt someone push me from the side. I fell to the ground, my head making an impact with a heavy object.

”Did you set us up?” I heard someone ask, but I couldn't place who it was.

“What have you done to her?” It was Zeke speaking this time.

I finally rose to my feet, and turned towards Roanna and Kaleb who were advancing towards us. But there was someone else beside them.

I gasped. “How-”

I was definitely hallucinating. There was no way Xavier was walking towards us. Didn't Roanna say she saved me from both of them?

From Zeke and Xavier?

Why was she walking with Xavier then? And they both had matching maniacal looks?

The truth dawned on me in a beat.

I was being lied to all along. Zeke never tried to kill me.

The real enemies were Roanna and her son. I'd been in the enemy's lair, without realizing it.

My head suddenly felt heavy.

“Prince Ezekiel Elliott, pleasure meeting you again.” Roanna said sweetly, but I felt nauseous.

She was evil. A bitch. And she'd used me.

I felt stupid.

”Roanna,” Zeke's eyes glinted dangerously. But from my position, I could see his hand shaking. His wound wasn't healing at all.

All because of me.

“I'm going to bring this war to an end. And then, I'd return the Source to its rightful place.” Roanna's lips curled.

I noticed Xavier hadn't said a word. Almost as if he was bidding for time. I watched his movements, ready to take the blow for Zeke if the need arose.

“What are you talking about, Roanna?” Kai asked impatiently. A seething Natasha stood by his side.

“You don't have to know. You're going to die now. And it'd be such a sweet death; delivered by your own lover.” She turned to me, and my heart dropped to my stomach.

She stretched her fingers forward, and I felt a force pulling me over. I stood in front of her, that way I could face Zeke and the others directly.

“You're going to put all the spells you've learnt to good use.” Her voice was so icy, that my skin pebbled.

I was compelled to obey her, even though I didn't want to. It was like I was being controlled.

Which I was.

I pushed my hand up slowly, the sword in my hand. All this while, Zeke didn't break eye contact with me. He stared at me with a pained look that pierced through my soul.

I'm sorry, I whimpered.
