please, take me to him
please, take me to him
Mika’s p.o.v
I jolted awake, looking around to see that i was no longer in that shit hole. “take it easy” the guy said.
He looked very familiar, “am I back?” i said, looking at the white walls and the man wearing white.
He looked so much like the man that Darius had screamed at to save me countless times. “I believe you are” he said with a smile that too professional.
“Darius” i said, my head snapping back up as i looked around, waiting for him to magically appear or burst through the door like he always did. But nothing. “where is Darius?” i called softly, looking at the Doctor whose back froze as i mentioned Darius’s name.
I knew something was wrong the moment the doctor wouldn’t meet my eyes.
“Where’s Darius?” my voice higher this time around. He was reaching out to something that was on the table when he paused with his hand on the edge of the table, fingers tightening slightly as if I’d asked the one question he’d hoped I wouldn’t. He didn’t answer.
My eyes found it’s way to the other who walked in when i was asking the first.
They didn’t even look at me.
I pushed myself up on my elbows, panic threading through my veins. “Where is he?” I repeated, louder this time. “He was here. I know he was.”
Still nothing.
The doctor turned away.
“Wait,” I said.
They didn’t stop.
“the bastard has abandoned me, hasn’t he?” i spat, a mixture of fear and anger filling me up.
“My lady i don’t think…” one said, turning sharply to look at me but the other one beat him to it. Shoving him out of the room before he could say any other thing.
The door closed sharply behind them, leaving me a bit confused. I stood up, placing my ear on the door “she definitely can not know about it. Lord Darius would have our heads if he knew.”
“And what if he does not wake up?” i felt cold air hit me at that.
“What do you mean by that” i said, pushing the door open. The shocked look on their face told me all i needed to know. They had not expected that i heard them.
The words wouldn’t leave my head.
He did not want her to know.
I kept replaying them, over and over, as if staring at them long enough would change their meaning. As if they would suddenly soften, become something harmless. They didn’t. They only sank deeper, curling tight at the pit of my stomach until it hurt to breathe.
“What does that mean?” i asked again.
My voice sounded steady. Too steady. I clung to that, even as my hands trembled at my sides and my fingers were curling into the sheets to keep them from giving me away.
The first doctor stood stiffly near the far wall, eyes fixed anywhere but on me. That alone made the fear spike sharper.
“I asked you something,” I said, louder now. “What did you mean when you said he did not want me to know?”
Silence.
My heart thudded hard in my chest each beat echoing louder than normal for some reason. I swallowed, forcing myself to keep my breathing even. If I let the fear show, I knew I would shatter. And once I shattered, there would be no putting myself back together.
“i- i think there has been a misunderstanding, i… we will just” one of them said, moving to walk away
“You don’t get to say something like that and walk away,” I continued, my jaw tightening. “Not after everything. Not after—” My voice wavered, and I hated myself for it. I corrected quickly. “Tell me.”
The doctor shifted uncomfortably. “Lady Mika, you need rest—”
“No.” I shook my head, the movement sharp. “I need the truth.”
I swung my legs over the side of the bed despite the weakness that rushed through me. The room tilted slightly, but I stayed upright. I refused to be small. Refused to be the fragile thing they clearly thought I was.
“My fear isn’t going to disappear because you lie to me,” I said quietly. “So either you explain what that meant, or I will keep asking until someone does.”
My hands betrayed me then, trembling openly now, my nails biting into my palms. I ignored it. Let them shake. I had survived worse than this moment of not knowing—but only barely.
The doctors opened their mouth, then closed it again.
They looked… cornered.
Before they could answer, the door opened sharply.
“That’s enough,” the second doctor said quickly, stepping forward. “I’ll explain.” he looked older.
The doctor turned to them, relief flashing across their face.
My chest tightened.
“Explain what?” I demanded.
He hesitated for just a fraction of a second too long.
“The castle,” he said finally. “It was attacked.”
The room went very still.
My ears rang, a sharp, hollow sound drowning out everything else. “Attacked,” I repeated faintly.
“Yes,” he said, more gently now. “It happened shortly after the procedure began.”
I felt cold all at once, like the warmth had been drained straight out of my veins. “And Darius?”
The doctor inhaled slowly, bracing himself.
“He was badly injured.”
The words hit harder than any blade ever could.
I sucked in a breath that scraped my lungs raw. Images flooded my mind. When he left the castle that morning before Beth literally threw me out.
Because if I had been here…
My hands curled into fists as my heart pounded violently, grief and terror twisting together until I couldn’t tell them apart.
“Take me to him,” I said.
“Mika-”
“Now,” I snapped, my voice breaking through the fog, fierce and shaking all at once. “please” i called more softly this time around, unable to shake the trembling in my voice. “just please just take me to him”
“you are not strong at the moment my Lady, please rest” they said, another attempt to push me away. But i shook my head.
There was no way i was going to do that “please…”
