Chapter 334 Perfect Grace

Chapter 334 Perfect Grace
Emma's POV

Six months passed like a dream. My life transformed from chaos into an unexpected serenity, with Blake by my side every step of the way.

The quiet mornings found Blake massaging my swollen ankles. "Your ankles look like my grandma's dinner rolls," he teased, earning a gentle kick that made him laugh.

Weekends were spent transforming our spare bedroom into a nursery. We painted the walls a soft gray with delicate pink accents. Blake insisted on assembling the crib himself, though it took three attempts and a YouTube tutorial marathon.

"This crib might be my undoing," Blake muttered, surrounded by scattered parts and incomprehensible instructions.

"Maybe our daughter will be old enough to help you finish it," I replied, struggling not to laugh.

We attended prenatal yoga classes together, where Blake's competitive nature turned simple stretches into Olympic events. The instructor frequently used him as an example of what not to do, much to my amusement.

One night, I woke Blake at 2 AM with an urgent craving. "I need raspberry sorbet with chocolate chunks. But not the brand from the corner store—the one from that place across town."

Without hesitation, Blake dressed and drove forty minutes to find it. I fell asleep before he returned, but he placed the sorbet in the freezer with a note: "For my two favorite girls. Anytime."

A surprise arrived one afternoon—a handcrafted mahogany crib from Gavin, with a card reading: "For the baby. May she have her mother's talent and determination." I traced my fingers over the elegant carvings, appreciating the peace we'd all found.

The quiet moments were my favorite—Blake reading parenting books aloud, taking more notes than I did. "Did you know babies have more bones than adults?" he'd announce, as if discovering the eighth wonder of the world.

Time flowed, marked by doctor's appointments and the steady growth of my belly, until one early February morning at 3:17 AM, when I jolted awake.

"Blake," I gasped, clutching my abdomen. "I think it's time."

Blake's eyes snapped open instantly. He nodded decisively.

He helped me to the car, the pre-packed hospital bag slung over his shoulder. As another contraction hit, I squeezed his hand so hard my knuckles turned white.

"You're doing great," he assured me, his voice steady despite the panic flickering in his eyes.

At Boston General Hospital, Blake rushed in with me in a wheelchair. To my surprise, Rachel stood waiting in the lobby, dressed in scrubs rather than visitor attire.

"What are you doing here?" I asked between breaths.

Rachel grinned. "You think I'd let anyone else deliver my goddaughter? Not a chance."

After a quick examination, Rachel announced, "Four centimeters dilated. We're moving to delivery. It's showtime, mama."

Blake was ushered to the waiting area, and I was wheeled away, each contraction more intense than the last. Rachel's calm voice guided me through the pain.

"You're doing beautifully," Rachel encouraged. "I can see her head now. One more big push."

With a final, determined effort and a cry that seemed to come from my very soul, I pushed. The room filled with the powerful sound of my daughter's first breath and indignant cry.

"She's here!" Rachel announced, her professional demeanor momentarily cracking with emotion. "Seven pounds, three ounces of perfect baby girl."

Tears streamed down my face as Rachel placed the tiny bundle on my chest. My baby had Blake's strong profile and my amber eyes, already curious and alert.

"Hello, little one," I whispered, my voice thick with exhaustion and overwhelming love. "Welcome to the world."

After I was moved to a private room, Blake was finally allowed in. He stopped in the doorway, his expression one I'd never forget—wonder, love, and something like reverence.

"Come meet your daughter," I said softly.

Blake approached with careful steps, taking the newborn into his arms. His hands, so capable and strong, suddenly seemed too large and clumsy for this tiny miracle.

"She's perfect," he whispered, a tear escaping despite his efforts.

Lily and Gavin were invited in, the room filling with soft exclamations and heartfelt congratulations.

"She's absolutely beautiful," Lily said, gently touching the baby's hand. "Like an angel."

"Have you decided on a name?" Rachel asked.

Blake and I exchanged a look. "Not yet," Blake replied. "We want to get to know her first."

"Whatever you choose," Gavin said with genuine warmth, "with parents like you, she'll be extraordinary."

The room hummed with a gentle peace as we all gazed at the newest member of our unconventional family, all past shadows finally dispelled by the light of new life.

One month later, I sat in the nursery rocking chair, watching Blake gently sway our daughter's cradle. The morning light streamed through the curtains, painting everything in a soft golden glow.

"I never imagined I could be this happy," I confessed, leaning against Blake's shoulder.

Without warning, Blake knelt before me, producing a small velvet box. Inside nestled a new ring—a cushion-cut diamond surrounded by tiny pink sapphires.

"I know we agreed not to talk about the future," he said, his voice unusually hesitant. "But I'd like to change that agreement."

I smiled, no longer afraid of promises. "Because of her," I said, glancing at our sleeping daughter.

"Yes," Blake nodded. "Because now I want to talk about so many futures—her first steps, first words, first day of school..."

I slipped the ring onto my finger. "Our future will be very, very long."

Blake gathered me into his arms. "What do you think about naming her Grace?"

"Grace," I repeated, testing the sound. "It's perfect. Grace Carter. Our little angel."

Outside, the February sun shone brilliantly on our window, where a newly framed photograph stood: me holding Grace, Blake's arm around us both, with Lily, Rachel, and even Gavin gathered close, every face illuminated with genuine happiness.

Our perfect grace had finally come.
