Chapter 60 Novien University?
Eli's POV:
"You're insane!" Jacob caught up and grabbed Delilah hard. "At a time like this, what the hell are you thinking about! All day long it's just this lovey-dovey crap!"
But Delilah stubbornly refused to move. She just stood there staring at me.
Her voice carried a sob. "I gave five years of my feelings! I have the right to get an answer!"
I didn't stop walking. She'd always been this crazy. I'd made it obvious enough, said several times I wanted to break off the engagement, but she simply wouldn't believe it.
Even if her family hadn't betrayed me, I would have chosen to call off the engagement. Not to mention how insane she was. A crazy killer.
I thought she didn't actually like me at all. She just wanted to tame me!
Now that her father was dead, she could no longer threaten me!
I couldn't be bothered to say another word to her.
Delilah's desperate crying rang out. "Brother, Eli loves me, right?! He has feelings for me. He didn't say he doesn't like me, so he must have feelings for me!"
My steps paused slightly. I didn't correct her words and walked all the way from the study back to the main hall.
Walker was leading our people in a standoff with the Nelson family members. The atmosphere between them was tense to the extreme. Seeing me come downstairs, Walker's expression relaxed a bit. He immediately had people surround and protect me.
No one chased after us until we withdrew from the Nelson family villa.
Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Sitting in the car, Walker asked me curiously, "Boss, are you really planning to let the Nelson family off like this? They've been making plenty of moves behind the scenes and almost got you sent to South Africa!"
I adjusted to a comfortable position and lit a cigarette.
"Although the Nelson family has declined, they're still a major gang. To destroy them, not just me, but even the entire Martinez family would suffer heavy losses."
Walker's expression became serious too.
I continued, "Besides, after what I did today, their family will definitely be in chaos. They won't have time to cause me trouble for a while."
Hearing my words, Walker still seemed unsatisfied. "They're really getting off easy."
I chuckled and patted his shoulder. "You guys have worked hard lately. Tell the brothers we're going to Archibald's bar tonight. All expenses are on me."
"You're not coming?" Walker immediately passed the message along. I could hear everyone cheering through the radio from the car.
I shook my head. "I'm going to pick up Genesis from school."
"Genesis?!" Walker looked at me in shock, hesitation flashing in his eyes. "What exactly is your relationship with her?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Haven't I made it obvious enough? Of course I'm dating her!"
"Dating!" Walker nearly jumped up. He stared wide-eyed. "You're serious about her? Genesis is a pretty innocent girl. You... it's not good to toy with her, right?"
What nonsense was he talking!
I punched his shoulder. "Of course I'm serious about her! I'm going to marry her! If she wasn't so young right now, I would have taken her to get our marriage certificate already."
How dare he question my sincerity?
"Marriage? I thought you treated her like those women you met at bars before! You're Genesis's uncle!" Walker shouted in surprise again.
I rolled my eyes at him. How did I end up choosing such a dramatic subordinate?
"Christian never filed adoption papers. I'm not her uncle at all. Now that my engagement with Delilah is also broken, all obstacles between us are gone. We're just an ordinary man and woman dating. Don't say that anymore. I'm not some pervert who would commit incest with my niece."
I only had one niece, Maria, and she would only ever be my niece.
My feelings for Genesis were carefully considered. We had no blood relation, and even the adoption papers that would prove our relationship didn't exist. We were just like any ordinary couple.
Walker grabbed his hair in frustration. "You're really crazy! If Don Martinez finds out... the consequences will be terrible!"
I laughed heartily. "I've always been crazy. Don't you guys know that?"
I patted Walker's shoulder, signaling him to get out of the car quickly.
Walker reluctantly got out and watched me drive away.
I parked in the school parking lot. School had already ended. I saw many students gradually coming out, but I didn't see Genesis.
"Last week was midterms, next week we have unit tests again. I hate exams."
The students' discussions reached me. I raised an eyebrow. Midterms a week ago?
I calculated the timing they mentioned. It was exactly when I was escorting that cargo to the southern region.
No wonder Genesis wasn't responding to my messages then. She was busy with midterm exams.
Given that little mute's serious nature, she would definitely work hard to get the best grades. After all, she was a senior now. If she wanted to apply to college, every test result was important and would affect her GPA.
Walton University was the best university, requiring a GPA of 3.95 or above.
I thought about this while watching the crowds coming and going at the school gate.
Before long, I saw Genesis walking out of the school gate. That annoying male classmate was beside her. I think his name was Forth?
Why was that brat always walking so close to her?
I narrowed my eyes and quietly rolled down the window.
The two were completely unaware and chatted as they approached my car.
The boy named Forth asked Genesis with a silly smile, "For tomorrow's College Counseling Meeting, will anyone from your family come?"
College Counseling Meeting?
I frowned slightly. Why hadn't Genesis mentioned this to me? She wasn't expecting that idiot Christian to attend, was she?
I saw Genesis shake her head at Forth.
Forth didn't seem surprised and nodded. "Right, since you've already decided to apply to Novien University..."
