Chapter 74 Chapter Seventy-Four
Kaelan
“Any news yet.” I asked before slipping onto a stool, a glass of whiskey in hand.
“Of course there is, if there wasn't, I'm certain you will be thinking of replacing me with someone... Competent.”
I scoffed. “It's nice to know you are not all that useless.”
“You know I'm not.” He countered. I took a sip from my drink while I waited patiently for his report. It came seconds later.
“All the recent contracts He signed with various companies have officially gone void. Boom.” He relaxed back against his chair, and turned around to face me. “Most major shareholders are backing out as I speak, I did a very good job with him. Next time, he'd learn not to ask for a war he can't level up against.”
I nodded in partial satisfaction. The first step was to make him suffer, then... Torture some sense into him, and then give Keira the luxury of choosing if she wanted to end his life, or if she want him to keep on breathing. I doubt she'd pick the latter though.
“Good job.” I stretched my glass at him, gave him a short nod, then drank a little from it.
“So... After letting him roll in poverty, what next?” He asked. He crossed his arms against each other. “Death?”
“It's none of your business, your work is done.” After swallowing the last drop of my drink, I lowered my glass down and stood up. I walked up to him, hands dug deep inside my trouser pockets. “How far about the spy, any move yet?”
He shook his head. “And it's beginning to irritate me now. Did you say the black witch also tell your wife that a spy exists in the castle?”
I hummed a reply. “And she holds doctor Lustre a prime suspect. But try as hard as I think, it just doesn't add up at all. Why will doctor Lustre join hands with my enemy?”
“Is there anyone you think is likely to be the spy?”
“If I knew, I would have told you to begin tracking every of their moves by now. Don't get me irritated.”
He raised his hands up. “Sorry, your highness.” He murmured.
“Keep a sharp eyes out there. The spy is our key to getting hold of the bastard giving orders behind closed curtains. I need to go see Maya, there are some questions she needs to answer.”
He merely nodded his head without saying a word. I walked out, the door closed behind me with a soft click.
I was just about to take a turn towards the training grounds where Maya was sure to be when Liyana bumped into me. “Sorry, your highness, I was quite in a rush.” She spluttered.
I waved at her, gesturing it was okay. I made to continue walking, but she stood in my way. I narrowed my eyes. “What is this all about?”
“I came to see you.” She said.
“Well, right now, I have other matters I need to attend to. I suppose you can wait a few hours more.”
“It won't take much of your time,” She continued, but I was in no mood to keep on standing there dragging with her if I get to stay, or leave. I was her Alpha, my words stands. She might be amongst the kingmakers, but I was one the Alpha king, she would respect every of my words with no grumbles... The like which was happening now.
“Liyana. Whatever you want to say, should wait.” My voice held absolutely no room for any argument.
She looked at me, then stepped aside, and let me pass.
What a weird attitude. I wondered all the way to the training grounds. Maya was dropping her bow down when I reached the training grounds. Obviously, she just finished shooting some arrows.
“Perfect aim as always.” She turned, and bowed. “Your highness.” She said.
“Rise. I came to ask you some questions.” I said, heading straight to the point.
She arched a brow, but said nothing.
“The last time I came to visit you at the cell, you were obviously not feeling too okay, you said, you were poisoned. So was the case of the three of your men who didn't make it. Tell me, how the fuck did you miraculously heal?”
“I don't know also, your highness. I just woke up one morning, and felt energized. I don't know what happened, and how the poison left my system. Id anything, I would also want to know what happened to me.” She said.
I looked hard at her face, searching in hopes for an iota of deception. I found none. I sighed after a long time of looking at her. “Okay.” My voice was low.
Without another word, I walked out from there, heading straight for my inner office.
I needed some time to myself to think everything through. Everything was just confusing. Despite how many times I joined the dots, connecting it to one mysterious person. Everything just doesn't add up at all.
I closed my eyes, and buried my face into my palms. The fox realm issue, The constant spies sent to assassinate me, Cassandra's issue, and now the spy who has always been by my side quietly watching every of my move.
Who could it be? Doctor Lustre? Lucy? Liyana? Or Amelia?
Of course, It has to be one person from the above mentioned names, but I certainly would be disappointed if it was anyone of them.
Yes... I never, and would never trust them, but it still wouldn't change the fact that I would be disappointed if it ever happens to be one of them.
I was still lost in my thoughts, when an idea struck. I jolted upright, a wife smile on my face. I knew just what to do now.
Since the spy decided to lie low, I knew of just the perfect way to make them make a move. Let's see if they will make a move or not.
