Chapter 64 Airport
Chapter 64 Airport
Maya
I could see nothing.
The guy who’d dragged me out of my house had blindfolded and tied my hands dumping me in the back of his car, so I had no idea where he was driving to.
Not to mention the extremely loud music he was blasting.
I’d never wished for anything more than the cops telling someone to pull over. My heart was beating fast and hard.
With no idea what was going to happen to me, it wasn’t overreacting.
It definitely is not.
After a ride that felt like eternity to me, the car pulled to a stop and I held my breath.
The music volume was turned down up to the point that i could barely hear the singer’s voice. With the music even off, everything felt real.
Too real.
And I was regretting everything. I shouldn’t have left Liam’s.
In my attempt to protect myself and move somewhere I wouldn’t be quickly discovered, I’d played right into their hands.
“Okay,” the man’s deep voice came and then he snatched the blindfold off. I was left blinking and the insane amount of light streaming into the car.
I blinked a couple more times before I was able to make out images.
His phone was to my face, and it seemed like he was on video call with someone.
“We’ll make it before nightfall,” he said and listening closely, he had an accent. One that I couldn’t figure out.
But I knew he wasn’t from this part of town.
He took the phone away and turned away. I couldn’t hear what whoever was on the other end was saying because he had connected his phone to the device he had in his ear.
I looked out of the dark windows. People walked in and out and I squinted.
Why would he bring me to a place filled with people?
On a second look, I realized we were in front of an airport. My heart dropped to my stomach.
He was trying to move me out.
Fuck.
He turned back to me, staring at me like he was trying to figure out something. I couldn’t speak —I was gagged, obviously.
“Okay. This is how this will work,” he muttered and I just blinked at him.
“We’re going to go in there and you won’t try anything funny.” His thick dark brows pulled together and his eyes darkened.
“If you try anything funny, I’ll end you.” He threatened and a shiver ran down my spine. I glanced out the window at the entrance again.
Maybe I could make it. I could disappear within the ton of people.
Just like he’d read my mind, he shifted slightly and raised his gun. I stopped breathing.
He brandished it an inch away from my face, his eyes not leaving me.
“I mean it.” He said quietly. “If you try to play smart with me, I’ll shoot and guess what?”
“There’s nothing anybody would do.” He said and I shut my eyes tightly, taking deep breaths and trying to calm myself.
I couldn’t afford to have a panic attack right now and I couldn’t afford to let him take me away either.
It’d make it extremely difficult for whoever was searching for me. If anyone was.
“Do you understand me?” He asked and I gave a stiff nod.
He nodded, tucking the gun back into his pants before he reached out and loosened the rope he’d tied around my hands.
I rubbed my wrists. Jesus, they felt sore.
I pulled the gag out of my mouth, tossing it away.
“Let’s go.” He said and got out of the car. I watched as he adjusted the black leather jacket he was wearing before opening my side of the door.
I stared up at him, trying as much as I could to imprint his image in my mind.
He cocked his head to the side.
“Get out,” his voice was low and rough and I didn’t wait to be told twice before I scrambled out of the car.
Soft air hit me in the face and I drew in a shaky breath.
He grabbed my arm, pulling me into his side. I had no idea how he did it but the nozzle of his gun was pressed into my side in such a way no one could see it.
To others, we could easily pass as a couple.
Instead of stopping at the terminal, we walked past it.
This was happening. It was real.
My brain got working immediately. I looked around looking for any exit and security guards.
A plan hatched in my mind and he dug the nozzle of his gun deeper into my side like he’d smelt what I was planning.
We walked closer to where a security guard stood and once we were close enough, I jerked forward, out of his hold.
I clutched my stomach and groaned in pain. The security guard stepped forward immediately, grabbing my shoulders.
“Ma’am, are you alright?” He asked and I shook my head.
“She’s fine.” The man said from behind me. He sounded pissed.
My heart slowed down.
I stared at the security guard.
“I’m not. I’m pregnant.” I muttered and the man looked slightly confused and concerned.
“You’d like a place to sit then?” He asked and I quickly shook my head.
“It feels like I’m bleeding. Where’s the restroom?” I asked and he glanced at the man behind me.
“Don’t worry about him. He’s my husband and he’s very protective.” I forced a smile. “Autism.” I whispered and the security guard cracked a small smile.
“The restroom is just around that corner.” He pointed and I pressed my lips together.
I glanced at the man from over my shoulder. His face was tight, his expression closed off and his eyes were a warning.
I edged closer to the guard.
“Can you look over my husband? He’s a little scary and I don’t want him scaring women off,” I asked quietly. The guard hesitated for a second before nodding.
I moved immediately.
I practically ran-walked and once I turned around the corner. I ran.
Without looking back, I made for one of the exits I’d seen as we walked in.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, as though my life depended on it —it does.
Before he’d be able to catch up with what’s happening, I should be far off.
I just hope so.
