Chapter 54 Lost
Chapter 54 Lost
Liam
“You’re family?” The doctor asked, walking into the room. I stood up from the bed and stared down at Maya who had passed out.
When we came in, the nurses had made sure she was stable, connected her to an IV before they left to get the doctor and I’d stepped out to get something for her to eat before she woke. Only to see her trying to escape.
My chest tightened and I nodded, tucking my hands into my pockets.
“Yeah. I’m her boyfriend,” I muttered before staring right at the man. He gave a nod, walking closer to her.
He narrowed his eyes.
“She’s bleeding,” he pointed out and I ran my fingers through my hair.
“She had tried to leave and disconnected the IV herself,”
The man hummed before picking up her chart and going through it.
“There’s no internal injuries…” he flipped the page over and glanced at me before returning his eyes to the chart. “Which is good considering her condition. An internal injury would have been catastrophic,”
I perked up.
“Her condition?” My heartbeat slowed a tad. “Does she…does she have a terminal disease?” Heaven knows I didn’t want to hear the answer to that question.
If she had one, it would be…devastating. I wouldn’t leave, I would never leave her again but that just meant I had limited time with her.
And the thought of that was breaking my heart all over again.
The doctor pressed his lips together. “None that is stated here,”
He closed the chart dropping it at her bedside before tucking his hands into his coat.
“She’s pregnant and we’re lucky there was no internal injuries or serious complications,” he drew in a breath. “Otherwise, she’d be fine in a couple of days. She just needs rest and food,”
He cleaned up her injury and fixed the IV line again while my head swung. My brain painfully digesting the information bit by bit.
She was pregnant?
My jaw tightened as I gave the doctor a forced smile as he left the room.
I sat on the chair next to her table and held her hand squeezing it lightly before bringing it to my lips.
She’d moved on. And no, I don’t blame her.
It was all my fault. Mr. Thompson had gathered vital information and evidences that would help me break free from my agency —my mother and Abigail without them attacking Maya.
They sure had a lot of cockroaches in their fucking cupboards. Abigail was my mother’s daughter.
Yeah, don’t ask me how but the whole shit is twisted. My whole life had been a lie but then I return to the one person who’d managed to make everything make sense but she’s —gone. Taken. Pregnant.
And it was all my fault.
I sat there for a long while, waiting for anyone to come in for her. Her new boyfriend maybe, but no one came in.
She’d ask me how I found her. But the thing is, no one could just disappear. Not with a phone.
Aaron had found her. Tracked her stuff and all.
I don’t know how he did that but he told me she was at the countryside. Where I did my shoot.
That was the last place I’d ever expect her to be. And she knew it.
The door creaked open and a lady rushed in with another following behind.
“Oh my God, Maya. What happened to you?” The First Lady whispered, perching by her bed and stroking her hair softly before her eyes jumped to me and she froze.
I recognized her. Maria.
The other one stepped in front of me. Shay.
Ofcourse.
“What are you doing here?” Shay asked and no, her voice wasn’t damn friendly. I stood up, opened my mouth to speak but she cut me off.
“How are you here? How did you find her? How the —“
“Bae,” Maria chirped in calmly and Shay glanced at her before taking a deep breath and shooting daggers at me with her eyes.
“You haven’t answered my question,”
“I…I brought her here,” I said quietly and that very much got on her nerves.
“What the fuck did you do to her?” I was very much convinced she’d have launched herself at me if we were in a different place.
I could see the hate in her eyes. Well, not only Maya hates me.
“She ran into a bike,”
“Because she was running from you,” she said flatly like she’d been there. She was right by the way.
If I hadn’t gone after her, she wouldn’t have gotten into that accident.
I dropped my head as guilt slowly ate at my insides. She’s been through a lot already, the least I could do was let her be happy.
My eyes stung.
“Yeah. I should leave,” I mumbled and she nodded.
“You should. You shouldn’t be here by the time she wakes,”
“Shay,” her girlfriend called again, before she stared at me. I could see the sympathy in her eyes.
I nodded, before turning around and dragging myself out of the room, gently shutting the door behind me.
My world was falling apart.
I couldn’t see one without her in it. And I could not imagine how she must have felt when she saw the news. Everything I’d put her through.
It made so much sense that she’d moved on. Got a new life and starting a family with someone who deserves her.
As for me? I’d mourn what I’d lost. Till whenever.
It could take days, weeks, months, hell , even years.
I’d fumbled the one woman I loved with every fiber of me. And Jesus, it fucking hurts.
