Chapter 53 Accident
Chapter 53 Accident
Maya
I bolted. Yes.
I know it was immature as fuck and all, but once I was sure he was the one standing in front of me— I bolted.
And he ran after me.
“Maya! Maya…please,” he called behind me and it made me just increase my pace.
To think I was complaining of not having energy a couple of minutes ago to doing full sprints and I was fast.
Fast as fuck.
Different thoughts ran through my head.
Why was he here? How was he here? But the why dominated.
There was no way he’d somehow be able to trace my whereabouts.
Jesus, for a minute I’d prayed it was just someone that looked exactly like him even though that was fucking ridiculous.
But I’d seen those eyes. I’d recognized the warmth in those depths, I recognized the eyes that teased me, the eyes that stared deep into my soul once. I’d fucking recognized them and I knew this was no doppelgänger.
Here in person was Liam Carter - my once fake boyfriend and father of my unborn child.
A thought hit me like a trail.
What if he’d somehow discovered I was pregnant and was here for my baby. Force me to terminate it so I don’t ruin his ‘reputation’ with an illegitimate child.
The thought consumed me so completely that I didn’t look before darting across the road.
There was a loud screeching noise but not before I felt the impact. The sky spun around and the edges became a little blurry.
I kept blinking as I hit the ground with a thud. I could hear the muffled screams of some women and hushed whispers around me.
Fuck!
I tried moving my limbs but they were not moving. I was hit by a fucking motorcycle.
“Maya! Jesus,” I heard his voice and felt him kneeling next to me with his hand on my head.
I tried to shake him off. I don’t want him touching me but I couldn’t fucking move.
And it wasn’t helping matters that my vision was getting worse. darkening at the edges, blurring further.
I have felt this more than once but not because I was involved in an accident. During panic attacks, yes.
I was going to black out soon and I hated that he caught up with me. I hated that I was in this situation because of him. I hated that he was here. In this town.
I hated that he’s suddenly showing up when I’m finally able to do something with myself. That he’d shown up to break me again.
Tears slid out of the corner of my eyes as my chest tightened painfully. God, it hurts.
“I’ll take her!” he yelled before scooping me off the ground. My head fell to his chest as he scurried around probably taking me to a car to bring me to the hospital.
My baby.
I wouldn't forgive him if I lost my baby. I would never forgive him for making me lose my baby.
The tears slipped out faster as my eyelids grew heavier.
“Hold on for me, pretty girl. Don’t shut those pretty eyes, okay?” he said and his chest rumbled. It was comforting. Soothing.
He stared down at me.
“You’ll be fine,” he whispered and my eyes drew shut.
He was back. To turn my life upside down.
Just like he did. Just like he’d always done.
I woke up with a start. My eyes flew open looking around the room wildly.
I tried to move but discovered my hand was infact connected to an IV line. My brain took a couple of seconds to process that I was in a hospital and a few minutes to remember how I got here.
When the memory of Liam crossed my mind, every muscle in my body tightened. I looked around the room.
There was no nurse here and no Liam in sight except some patients who were asleep on their beds.
I felt a whole lot better. I could move my hands and legs and no, my vision wasn’t laced with black spots or blurry. I could see perfectly fine and that meant everything was okay with me and I had to leave.
Biting my lips, I yanked the IV needle from my hand, ignoring the sting and swung my legs off the bed and into a sitting position.
My head felt a little heavier like it was about to drop off my neck.
But that didn’t stop me from climbing off my bed and sauntering towards the door. Every step felt heavier and more difficult.
My head was throbbing. Violently.
But I kept going. A few painkillers would help get rid of the pain and throb.
I reached for the door knob about to turn it open when it suddenly opened. It was at that exact moment my eyes rolled back into my head and I collapsed.
Remember that thing I said about feeling better, it was such a huge lie.
Luckily, someone caught me before I hit the ground.
“Jesus, Maya.”
Again. He was here again.
“What do you think you’re doing?” his voice sounded distant as he picked me up and If I guess right was walking us back to my bed.
He placed me on the bed and grabbed my hand. He said something I didn’t fully catch but I knew it had to do with the blood that was flowing out of my hand from where I’d roughly pulled the drip.
“I’ll call the doctor. Fuck… this doesn’t look good… you shouldn’t be….” the rest of his sentence broke into bits and slowly faded out as I passed out again.
It sucks.
But one thing I was sure going to do once I was strong enough was leave this place and go somewhere else he wouldn’t be able to find me. Me and my baby. Ever.
