Chapter 151: Hitman

Chapter 151: Hitman
Third person

Valerie resumed work the next day, an unmistakable glow on her face. She wore a bright smile on her face as she walked past and replied to the greetings of employees. Most people would have attributed her smile to the fact that she'd taken back her company.

Yes, it was partly that and then last night… She bit her bottom lip in remembrance.

The sound of chairs scraping and cheerful chatter filled the air as soon as she entered the secretary's office.

Valerie looked up at the entrance to see fancy alphabets arranged to form “Welcome back, Ashley.”

Gabriel, Tessa, and some other employees popped some party poppers as she entered. Colorful pieces scattered everywhere on the floor, some clinging onto her clothes and hair.

“What's this?” Valerie looked around, surprised.

"Honey, congratulations!” Gabriel cooed with a cake in hand. He moved forward to hug Valerie. “You did it! You're the new CEO!"

Valerie welcomed the embrace, instantly feeling guilty for not reaching out first to her friend, Gabriel. Even after she found out that he wasn't the one who told Karen about her secret.

Tessa joined in, her eyes shining with excitement. "We're so proud of you, ma’am,” she beamed. “You deserve this!"

Mr. Denver stood there and stared at her, emotions swirling in his eyes. "I always knew you had it in you.”

Valerie's face glowed with happiness as she accepted their congratulations. She'd asked Mr. Denver to come to the office today, she wanted to give him a job.

“Congratulations, ma'am,” came from all sides of the room, the other employees wanting to extend their warm feelings.

The moment was overwhelming for Val, and tears stung at the back of her eyes. She addressed them, thanking them for the kind gesture and support, and expressing her anticipation about getting to work with them again.

Cake was cut and shared before the employees began to disperse. “Tessa, Gabriel, Mr. Denver,” Valerie called at once, and the three of them stopped.

She turned around and headed to her office, and they followed suit. "I'm assigning new positions to each of you,” Val began once they were inside. She glanced at Gabriel. “You'll be heading the marketing department.”

She turned to Tessa. “You'll be leading the creative team.”

Their lips parted in shock at her decision. They began to rain their thanks on her. Mr. Denver was beaming with smiles as he congratulated Tessa and Gabriel.

Valerie faced Mr. Denver. “You'll be the new financial manager,” she said and Mr. Denver’s jaw dropped at the announcement. He got down on his knees in gratitude, but Valerie was quick to pull him back up.

The room erupted into cheers and applause as Valerie's friends hugged each other, beaming with excitement.

Valerie turned to Gabriel, her eyes apologetic. "Gabriel, I'm so sorry about what happened earlier. I thought—"

Gabriel waved his hand dismissively. "Don't mention it, sweetie. I would have felt the same way if I were you,” he brushed off. “But your friend Matthew, is really sneaky as hell,” he stated and they laughed.

Karen was pacing in her bedroom, her mind racing with different thoughts. How did Ashley even find out about the real location for the meeting?

The memory of the last board meeting cut deep like a knife. Those directors had made a fool out of her.

She groaned and reached for Adam's laptop on the table. Raising it above her head with both hands, she smashed it to the ground with a crashing sound. The screen detached from the body.

“Ashley!” She screamed bitterly. Everything in her life began crumbling when that woman showed up. That was the same time Adam stopped having sex with her… starting detaching…

She'd known that he wasn't exactly faithful before Valerie came but still he'd loved her. She could feel it.

Right now, Adam had even tried to kill her… Adam was in hiding… They'd put a travel restriction on her and her family because of the ongoing investigation.

To add insult to injury, Ashley's life was moving very smoothly.

She'd just received a call informing her that the employees were celebrating Ashley's return. She'd asked her informant to get the names of the employees who were engaging in such an abomination.

Once power shifts in her favor again, she would make sure to fire them, even if it means ridding the entire company of those filthy humans.

She clenched her teeth, angry tears slipped from her eyes. “Never!” She cried out. She'd rather die than watch Ashley become CEO. Ashley can never take back the company; she won't allow it.

‘But she has already taken it,’ the voice in her head mocked.

She pulled at her bedsheets furiously and tossed the pillows to the ground. The grave is where Ashley belongs, nowhere else. And that's where she'll go.

Karen plopped down on her mattress and picked up her phone to call the hit man they'd paid. The plan she'd discussed with her family was brilliant: have Gary Miller assume the CEO position for now and then kill Ashley.

The first part had fallen apart while the second was proving difficult because that whore was living with a man that she wasn't married to.

Karen's fingers tapped on her thighs impatiently as she waited for the man on the other side to respond.

Finally, his hoarse voice came through. “Hello, ma'am.”

“Report,” she ordered impatiently.

“I already told you,” the man began, his voice throaty and a faint moaning sound echoed in the background. “She's still in Mr. Stone's house, and it's heavily guarded. And even when she's not there, her bodyguard never—”

“Shut up!” Karen snapped angrily. “You're just an incompetent fool. How hard is it to kill one woman?”

The man sucked his teeth, tired of her constant berating. “If it's not that hard, then maybe you can do it yourself.”

He hung up on her. Karen's lips parted as she stared at her phone in disbelief. She wanted to call him again and give him a piece of her mind, but she decided against it. And somehow, she began to see the sense in what he had said.

Maybe she should kill Ashley herself. It'll be easier for a woman to get close to Ashley than a gruff-looking man. Plus she'll be able to savor the beautiful moment of watching Ashley take her last breath.
