Chapter 620: Discovering the Villain's Tracks
Chapter 620: Discovering the Villain's Tracks
Melinda couldn't always be there to help her; Yvonne had to walk her own path in the future.
Yvonne nodded firmly, "Mel, I promise I won't let you down again."
She knew that if she made another mistake like this, there wouldn't be another chance.
Melinda nodded, "I believe in you. You need to believe in yourself too. The road ahead is long, and Evander's life is just beginning. You need to be there for him as he grows up."
Yvonne's eyes filled with tears of gratitude, "Thanks for saying that. Whenever I'm lost, you're the one who guides me and shows me the way."
Melinda held her hand, "We're all women; it's only right to give you a hand."
Yvonne smiled, feeling lucky to have such friends.
"By the way, I'm planning to stay at a hotel with Evander for now. We won't be going back to the Douglas Mansion. If he comes looking for me, please don't tell him."
Melinda frowned slightly, "Yvonne, have you really sorted things out with him?"
Yvonne thought for a moment, "I've made it very clear to him, but he doesn't seem to understand my resolve."
"And your heart? Are you sure you want to leave him?"
Melinda didn't want to pressure her. If Yvonne was acting on impulse, their decision would be wrong. She needed to make a firm decision, one that couldn't be changed. Otherwise, constant changes would disrupt their plans, and Melinda didn't have the time or energy to keep up with that. She needed to make things clear now.
Yvonne nodded resolutely, "After talking to the therapist today, I'm even more certain of my thoughts. I was wrong in the past. I only thought about relying on him to survive, never considering that being with him would make me lose myself and turn into a resentful woman."
"I once wanted to be a florist and create a sea of flowers, preserving the world's most beautiful scenes. But because of him, I abandoned my dreams and even became heartless towards my child. I wish I could go back and slap myself hard."
"Now that you all are giving me another chance, I want to completely change everything and start anew."
Yvonne clutched her collar, "I even became this unrecognizable person because I fell in love with him. My beloved mother was killed because of it. How could I still want to be with him?"
Melinda saw her getting emotional and quickly stepped forward to pat her back.
"It's not too late for you to wake up now. Go create your own life. We are here to support you."
Yvonne's tears flowed again, "Mel, you've done so much for me. I don't even know how to thank you."
Melinda spoke earnestly, "If you really want to thank me, promise me one thing."
Yvonne nodded, "Tell me!"
"Take good care of Evander. That's my biggest wish. Every time I see the sadness in his eyes, it feels like a knife cutting my heart. Please treat him well."
These were Melinda's heartfelt words. Every time she saw Evander's sad expression, it hurt her deeply.
Such a young child should be at the age to be spoiled by his parents, yet he had to bear so much.
Yvonne cried again, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. This won't happen again."
Melinda didn't say anything harsh, knowing Yvonne understood.
"You've apologized enough. No need to say it anymore. When you stay at the hotel, don't register under your own name to avoid being found."
Yvonne hesitated, and Melinda pulled out another ID from her bag.
"Use this. He won't find you."
Yvonne felt a wave of gratitude, "You've thought of everything for me, Mel. You're like family to me. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Melinda smiled, "You have me, don't you? Take Evander back to rest and keep in touch."
Yvonne bowed deeply and left with Evander.
Elmwood walked up behind Melinda and gently hugged her.
"Sweetheart, you're amazing. You haven't given up on her even now."
Melinda held his hand and leaned her head against his chest, "If I don't help her, what do you think her future will be like?"
Elmwood thought for a moment, "It would be a mess."
"And who would suffer the most?"
"Of course, the child."
Melinda touched her belly, "Exactly, the child. I love Evander; he's the sweetest kid I've ever met. Haven't you noticed? He's never naughty, always so well-behaved, like there's an adult living inside him."
Elmwood repeated her words, "An adult living inside him. That's a fitting description. He does give that impression."
Melinda said, "That's why I can't help but feel sorry for him every time I see him. I don't want to see a child become like this, and I don't want him to lose his mother at such a young age."
Melinda had lost her mother and knew how painful it was. She didn't want a child she liked to suffer the same fate.
Having been through the rain, she wanted to hold an umbrella for others.
Elmwood sighed, "That's your kind heart. Others wouldn't care about these things."
Melinda looked up at him, "I believe even without me, you would do the same. You wouldn't watch a poor child fall into hell. My dear, you're inherently a good person."
Elmwood wasn't just good to her; he was a genuinely good person.
Elmwood smiled, "If you keep praising me like this, I'll get cocky."
Melinda wrapped her arms around his neck, "You should be proud. You have every reason to be."
Her words made Elmwood laugh, "Seeing you so spirited makes me happy."
Melinda said, "If we can catch that jerk Hugo, I'll be even happier."
Elmwood pinched her cheek, "You're even swearing now."
"I don't know why, but ever since I got pregnant, my temper has skyrocketed. I get angry easily. I just want to slap Hugo ten times."
Melinda wasn't joking. Thinking about how he treated her made her want him to pay tenfold.
Elmwood held her hand, "Don't hurt your hand. When we catch him, let me handle it."
As they were talking, Stanley called. Elmwood answered, and Stanley's excited voice came through.
"Mel, I have good news. We've found Hugo. I'm going to catch him now. You just wait for me to bring him back."
The couple looked at each other and clapped excitedly. They had just been talking about this, and now it was happening. It seemed like even God was on their side.
"That's great. Remember to surround him first before capturing him. Don't let him escape."
"Don't worry. My team has surrounded the whole street. He won't get away today."
Melinda reminded him, "Be careful. Don't get too nervous when you see him. Don't kill him."
She still needed to vent her anger. She had to see him face-to-face.
