Chapter 603: Remember You Are an Injured Person

Chapter 603: Remember You Are an Injured Person

Of course, Elmwood had thought about telling him right away, but Stanley was in such bad shape at the time that he worried it would only make things worse.

Now, with no other options, he had to spill the truth to get Stanley's help.

Stanley's pale face was full of concern.

"Look, as long as I'm still breathing, you gotta tell me these things. Mel's situation is different. If something happens to her, can you live with that?"

Elmwood stayed silent. If something happened to Melinda, he couldn't live, but Stanley wouldn't be much better off either. He just didn't say it out loud.

"Now's not the time for this. Mel's sending us messages through this method. If we can find this car, we can find her."

"These people are really careful. Even I got caught in their trap."

Elmwood asked, puzzled, "You always have bodyguards and tight security. How did they manage to ambush you?"

Stanley replied helplessly, "Haven't you heard the saying, 'It's not the thief you fear, but the thief who has you in his sights'? We're out in the open, and they're hiding. Plus, this guy has a lot of connections. One small mistake and we suffer."

"So, you're saying his existence is a big problem. We need to find a way to deal with him." Elmwood hadn't realized Hugo's presence would be such a threat.

Even Stanley had fallen into his trap twice, showing how formidable Hugo was.

Stanley nodded, "This grudge is settled. Hugo is extremely greedy. Based on my guess, he kidnapped Mel for your assets. You need to be prepared."

Elmwood said gravely, "As long as he releases Mel, he can have everything."

"Don't be naive. He's not stupid. Even if you give him everything, he knows you'll try to take it back. He wants to eliminate your future threats."

Stanley was analyzing based on his understanding of Hugo. This time, they weren't dealing with the impulsive Calista but a seasoned fox in politics and business, who knew more and had more ruthless methods.

What they needed to do now was hold their ground and wait for news, then find a way to rescue Melinda safely.

Elmwood said coldly, "It seems the best way is to eliminate him."

Elmwood had never advocated violence, but now it seemed necessary to deal with evil.

To live a peaceful life, first, you must remove obstacles.

Stanley agreed, "Don't just say it. I want to kill this bastard right now. He better not fall into my hands, or I'll tear him apart."

Stanley wasn't just venting. He had almost died twice because of Hugo's schemes.

Jade was still in the hospital, not out of danger, and Stanley had been thrown into the sea as bait.

Stanley was a prominent figure in Charlington, never having been so manipulated. Now, Hugo had toyed with him repeatedly, making him furious and murderous.

"If he dares to harm a hair on Mel's head, I'll break his arm."

Elmwood was willing to meet any of Hugo's demands as long as he didn't hurt Melinda.

But there had been no news all day. Hugo was deliberately creating anxiety, waiting to strike when Elmwood was most vulnerable, making him easy to control.

Even knowing Hugo's plan, Melinda's disappearance was enough to make Elmwood anxious, without any need for tricks.

Stanley was constantly checking with the traffic police. Fortunately, there was progress. Through satellite tracking, they found the car on a dark road and sent a drone to follow it.

"Looks like they're in this area. Let's head over."

Elmwood nodded, "I'll have Leander arrange more people to ambush on both sides. If they're really inside, we can attack together."

Stanley shook his head, "That won't work. The fewer people, the safer. Hugo is really good at counter-surveillance. Otherwise, why would he have his guys drive a car with fake plates and wander around to confuse us?"

Elmwood frowned, "Mel's account transferred money to five people, indicating there are quite a few of them. If we go with too few people, how can we fight them?"

Stanley rolled his eyes, "Aren't you capable of taking on ten people alone? What are you afraid of? I can fight too."

Elmwood looked at Stanley's bandaged hand and reminded him helplessly, "Remember, you're still injured. Don't act recklessly. Just assist me."

"Are you kidding? I fought with injuries before you even knew where I was."

"Is that something to brag about?"

Elmwood didn't want Stanley to get hurt while rescuing Melinda, which would disrupt their plans.

He had already decided that once Melinda was safe, they would leave this troublesome place as planned.

Elmwood didn't want to stay here any longer.

Stanley glanced at him, "Enough talk. Let's get in the car."

Elmwood nodded and had Leander take a few bodyguards in another car. They couldn't bring too many people, but they needed some backup.

Stanley had Beckett drive to the location sent by the drone, praying they could rescue Melinda tonight.

"Mel is smart, using this method to send us messages."

Elmwood said, "In this world, who isn't greedy? They might work their whole lives and not earn a million dollars. Now, they just need to move their fingers, and they won't miss the chance."

Elmwood was grateful for their greed, which exposed their whereabouts.

He didn't know Melinda's current situation, but he silently prayed she was safe, waiting for him to rescue her.

In the warehouse, dim light shone on Melinda's calm face as the guards slowly left.

Melinda heard them whispering, likely discussing the money.

They must be thrilled to get so much money. Melinda didn't bribe them directly because it was too risky.

She wasn't sure of their loyalty to Hugo, but doing such dangerous work meant they loved money.

As long as they loved money, they would follow her instructions to transfer funds. She believed Elmwood had already found these clues and was probably on his way.

She pretended to sleep but was actually listening to their movements.

Melinda knew this night would bring many events.

Fortunately, Hugo hadn't harmed her, and the guards had some morals and didn't trouble her.

Just then, footsteps approached the door, making Melinda very nervous.

"Hugo, why are you here?"

Hearing this, Melinda gripped her cup tightly. A bright light followed, accompanied by Hugo's laughter.

"Mrs. Sanctuary, you must still be awake."
