Chapter 79 His Life, I Want It
Chapter 79 His Life, I Want It
Isla had been standing guard at the door for a while, just in case something happened to Sophia.
"Sophia, what do you want? My friends are waiting for me in the private room. If you don't let me go, you're dead meat!"
Emily's frightened expression was almost laughable to Sophia.
"When did the fearless you start feeling scared?"
Sophia's voice was sharp, her eyes narrowing.
"Sophia, what are you planning? Even if the Mitchell family is backing you, I don't believe they can protect you from everything. Otherwise, they would've already investigated the yacht incident!"
Emily blurted out in her agitation, realizing too late what she had said. She took a few steps back, feeling guilty, and turned to leave.
"Move! I want to get out of here. You have no right to keep me trapped!"
Emily's arm tightened painfully as Isla grabbed hold of it, not letting go.
Isla's slight tug caused Emily to stumble backward, hitting the wall. The cold tiles against her skin sent a chilling sensation down her spine.
Before she could catch her breath, Sophia's imposing figure approached.
"You just mentioned... investigating the yacht incident."
Sophia's eyes were like a lion's, fixed on its prey.
"I didn't say that! You heard wrong. I never mentioned it."
Emily's eyes darted around, avoiding Sophia's gaze, afraid that Sophia might discover her secret.
Seeing Emily's reaction only confirmed Sophia's suspicions. She clenched her fists, suppressing her anger.
Emily alone could never expose the person behind everything. Chase was the key.
Sophia's teeth clenched, her hidden hand trembling slightly. When she looked up again, her face had returned to its usual fake smile.
Sophia's heels clicked against the floor as she approached Emily, her hand smoothing out the wrinkles on Emily's shoulder.
"You're my sister, after all. Of course, I believe what you say."
Her smile was unsettling, making Emily's heart race with fear. What was Sophia planning?
"Want to leave? The door's right there."
Sophia's tone was gentle, pointing to the door. Isla, unsure of Sophia's intentions, stepped aside.
Seeing the chance to escape, Emily tried to leave, but after taking two steps, a sharp pain hit her scalp.
"Sophia, you bitch! How dare you pull my hair!"
Emily screamed, ready to curse, but Sophia's icy voice stopped her cold.
"Tell Chase that his life is mine."
Sophia shoved Emily out like trash, nearly causing her to fall. Emily, terrified by Sophia's piercing gaze, left in a hurry without saying another word.
The restroom returned to silence.
"Ms. Brown, you're just letting her go like that?"
Isla was still shaken. She would've given Emily a good beating.
Sophia looked at her reflection in the mirror, no longer the naive girl she once was. Her eyes now held a sharpness she hadn't noticed before.
She chuckled and shook her head.
"Don't worry. I want Emily to fill Chase in on everything that happened today. Knowing him, he won't be able to keep his cool. Let's go back and eat."
They left the restroom, watching Emily hurriedly drag her confused friends away. Her panicked figure was almost comical.
"Sophia, the food's just been served. Want to try some?"
Aurelia greeted her playfully, waving her over to sit down.
Sophia nodded, unfazed by the recent events.
"Sure, I'd love to see what makes this place so special that you keep coming back."
After dinner, everyone chatted happily.
After saying goodbye, Sophia headed straight to Jade Haven. She hadn't checked the accounts for days, so she decided to handle the miscellaneous tasks now.
"Ms. Brown, you're here! I've organized the accounts, both in print and electronic versions. You can review them here while I check the other records."
Zander ran off to the back to take care of things.
Sophia looked around, impressed by the spotless cleanliness, even in the hard-to-reach corners.
Jade Haven wasn't huge, but Zander's efforts had made it run smoothly.
"Ms. Brown, take your time to review the accounts while I heat some milk for you. Mia insisted that."
Sophia smiled at her.
"You two, one quiet and one lively, get along well despite your different personalities. Next time, bring her along."
"What? You're inviting her out?"
Sophia laughed, putting on her gold-rimmed glasses.
"You've been wanting her to join us. Next time, bring her. She won't cause any trouble."
"Great! I'll tell her."
Isla went to the kitchen, leaving the room quiet.
Time passed, and footsteps sounded at the door.
Sophia, engrossed in the accounts, spoke absentmindedly, "Come in, please, and feel free to take a look around."
No response...
She looked up, surprised to see the person standing there.
"What, not happy to see me?"
Philip's words made Sophia quickly adjust her demeanor, smiling at him.
"Of course not. I'm glad you're here."
His face was unreadable, with a hint of an unclear emotion.
"Have you eaten? Want me to make something for you?"
Sophia closed the accounts, let her hair down, and tidied her clothes, ready to leave.
Philip suddenly grabbed her arm, making her pause and look at him, puzzled.
"What's wrong?"
Philip's eyes deepened, his hand tucking her loose hair behind her ear.
"You met with the Brown family today."
His voice was soft, hard to decipher.
"I ran into them at lunch, but didn't..."
"Sophia, don't think you can take on anyone with your limited power. Using the Mitchell family won't be enough."
Sophia's smile froze, her eyes showing no surprise. His words were expected.
She turned, adjusting his collar like a normal couple, meeting his gaze.
"Philip, are you hungry?"
