Chapter 78 Did I Let You Go?
Chapter 78 Did I Let You Go?
The street was pretty empty, so they got to their destination in no time.
"How's the Zander order coming along?"
Zander's face lit up as soon as he saw Sophia walking over.
"Ms. Brown, you won't believe it! Ever since you went to that event, we've been swamped with orders at Jade Haven!"
He quickly pulled out his tablet to show her the numbers.
"Look at this, Jade Haven's gonna be crazy busy from now on."
Sophia glanced at the data and nodded.
Jade Haven was definitely on the rise. As long as sales continued to climb, expanding the brand wouldn't be a problem.
"Let's focus on these orders first. We can't afford any mistakes."
Eyes were on Jade Haven like hawks, and any slip-up now would be blown out of proportion.
Who knows how many plots and schemes were waiting for her to trip up?
Sophia spent the whole day at Jade Haven processing orders, occasionally noticing a few odd customers.
Seeing that they meant no harm, she didn't pay them much attention. They were probably sent by rival forces, though it was unclear by whom.
"We've managed to finish two-thirds of the orders. You guys take care of the rest; I need to step out."
"Got it, Ms. Brown! Don't worry, I'll make sure everything goes smoothly!"
Sophia nodded. Zander was great at handling things. After all, he'd been the Brown family's butler for many years and had plenty of experience.
She changed into more comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and put on some simple makeup.
"Let's go. I've got dinner plans with Aurelia at seven. We should get there about ten minutes early."
Sophia and Isla had just arrived at the restaurant when a familiar figure caught her eye.
"Sophia!"
Aurelia, dressed in an elegant gown, beamed like a cheerful bunny.
Beside her, Kieran leaned against his chair with a helpless look. Upon seeing Sophia, he quickly averted his gaze, as if afraid she'd notice his embarrassment.
What's going on with these two?
"Why are you here so early?"
Sophia stepped forward, and Aurelia immediately grabbed her hand.
"I didn't want to keep you waiting, so I came early."
As Aurelia spoke, her eyes kept darting behind Sophia, searching for someone.
"Strange, isn't your husband coming with you?"
Frowning, Aurelia leaned close to Sophia's ear and whispered.
"Tell me honestly, are you really married?"
Aurelia's wide eyes were full of doubt. Sophia tucked a stray lock of Aurelia's hair behind her ear.
"Of course I'm married. My husband is just super busy with work and doesn't have time to go out with me. Having Isla with me is just as good."
Sophia pulled Isla to her side.
Isla, who had been stern-faced, suddenly looked tense and awkward.
"Hello."
Her mechanical way of speaking made Isla seem a bit wooden.
Aurelia placed a finger on her lips. "Come to think of it, Isla is always by your side. You two really look like sisters. I wish I had a friend like that."
"Aren't we your friends now?"
Sophia tapped Aurelia's forehead.
"Alright, alright, we'll stick together. But next time, you have to bring your husband. I want to see what kind of amazing guy married such a beautiful woman!"
Sophia didn't respond, her mind drifting to Philip's face. He probably wouldn't come.
"Let's go inside."
The four of them sat down, and just as they'd ordered, a curious voice piped up.
"Sophia, do you know that person? Why is she staring at you?"
Sophia followed Aurelia's gaze and saw Emily glaring angrily at her.
Emily was accompanied by two other women, likely her companions.
"I have a feeling that she's trouble. If you need help, I'll go kick her out."
Before Sophia could respond, Aurelia was already gearing up to confront Emily.
Sophia raised her arm and gently pulled Aurelia back, shaking her head with a smile.
"She probably mistook me for someone else. No need to bother. Didn't you say the food here is great? Let's eat first."
Sophia glanced at Emily, whose hostile eyes were fixed on her.
"Emily, what are you staring at? Our private room is right ahead. Hurry up!"
Urged by her friends, Emily finally looked away, shooting Sophia a hateful glance.
Who was behind the Chase family's release?
Sophia chatted and laughed with Aurelia and the others, but inwardly she was tense.
Halfway through the meal, she saw Emily heading to the restroom.
"Aurelia, you guys keep eating. I'm going to touch up my makeup."
Sophia smiled and gave Isla a look before heading to the restroom.
She had just taken out her makeup bag when she heard the sound of flushing. Emily emerged with a scornful expression.
"Who do we have here? I thought marrying into a wealthy family would make you rich, but it looks like your life isn't that great."
Emily's mocking tone sounded like a dog's bark to Sophia. She ignored her, calmly applying lipstick, treating Emily as if she were invisible.
Seeing Sophia's indifference, Emily became furious.
"Sophia, are you deaf? Can't you hear me?"
She reached out to knock Sophia's makeup bag over, but a hand suddenly appeared, gripping her arm tightly.
Sophia's lips curled into a casual smile, meeting Emily's shocked gaze.
"You dare stop me!"
Emily exclaimed, raising her other hand to strike Sophia.
"Emily, have you had enough?"
Sophia's words were light but carried weight, her sharp gaze following.
Emily stared at Sophia's familiar face, feeling as if she wasn't the same person.
Those eyes... they seemed to pierce her soul!
Sophia's eyes lowered, and she flung Emily's arm away like trash.
"You! You're just relying on your connections with a wealthy family. Otherwise, you wouldn't be so arrogant! But I don't believe you can stay on top for long. You're just..."
"Emily! If you don't want to lose your tongue, keep talking!"
Sophia's sudden, harsh reprimand made Emily shudder.
Philip was notorious for his ruthlessness. Anyone who crossed him would be tortured to near death.
Her family had warned her not to confront Sophia directly, fearing Philip's wrath.
Emily glared at Sophia, throwing out a few more threats before attempting to leave.
"Sophia, you're lucky this time. I'll let you off!"
She was about to exit when the door swung open.
Sophia turned and spoke coldly, "Did I say you could leave?"
