Chapter 77 The Night Confrontation
Chapter 77 The Night Confrontation
"You're late."
A cold, steady voice cut through the darkness in front of Sophia.
The room was pitch black, but the moonlight revealed a silhouette lounging in a chair.
A faint glow from a cigarette lit up the fingers holding it, smoke curling lazily into the air.
Sophia glanced around; Philip was the only one there.
"Traffic was awful. Have you eaten? I can make you something."
She spoke softly, placing her bag down and heading toward the kitchen. She had barely taken two steps when Philip appeared in front of her, blocking her way.
Philip towered over her, his height making her feel small.
"What's up?"
"Planning to blow up my kitchen?"
Sophia was taken aback.
She tilted her head, looking at him in confusion.
"Last time, the food you made was so bad it was practically poison. Trying to finish the job this time?"
Sophia was baffled. Philip's words were getting more and more bizarre.
Every time she cooked, even if it wasn't great, she put her heart into it. Shouldn't that count for something?
"You're overthinking it. I didn't mean it that way. You haven't eaten yet, and I don't want you to go hungry."
In the next moment, Philip grabbed her chin, his rough palm causing discomfort.
He pulled her closer abruptly, leaving Sophia breathless.
Philip raised an eyebrow, his hand moving up from her waist, feeling her body tremble through her clothes. He smirked.
"What, are you scared of me?"
His words sent a shiver down Sophia's spine. She turned her head away, avoiding his gaze.
"No, do you still want me to cook?"
"No."
Philip's predatory gaze swept over Sophia from head to toe, lingering for a long time before he turned back to his chair, crossing his arms and looking at her with a smug expression.
"You met Gia today."
Philip's network was impressive. How many people did he have spying for him?
"Yeah, it was just for work. We didn't talk about anything else, so there's no need to worry."
Philip chuckled.
"Worry? What do I have to worry about?"
The sudden change in his mood left Sophia confused.
She steadied herself and walked toward him.
"I thought you minded my meeting with someone from the Mitchell family. If you don't want me to, I can avoid them in the future..."
Sophia lowered her eyes, her long lashes trembling, looking pitiful.
Her beauty was already striking, and her vulnerable expression could tug at anyone's heartstrings.
Philip's frown deepened, feeling an unexpected emotion.
He had encountered countless women, but Sophia felt different.
He turned away, crushing his cigarette underfoot.
"Don't put on an act. Do whatever you want. I called you here to see if your desire for revenge is still as strong as before."
Sophia was taken aback.
She looked at him steadily, her voice calm.
"Philip, right now, I just want to have the baby safely. We can talk about other things later."
In front of Philip, Sophia wanted to hide her true self. Philip was like a sleeping demon, unpredictable.
"Just a few days, and you've already been tamed by reality. Sophia, you disappoint me."
His gaze sharpened, cutting through her facade.
After such a long standoff, Philip was losing interest in her.
"Get out. Don't show up in front of me again!"
Philip swept a glass pitcher off the table, the crashing sound echoing through the room.
Sophia pretended to be terrified, stumbling backward, her steps unsteady.
Her chest heaved as if she were genuinely frightened. She turned and fled, slamming the door behind her.
Watching her hurried escape, Philip's anger intensified.
As Sophia's figure disappeared, Walter rushed in.
"Mr. Mitchell, there's no need to get so worked up over a woman, especially one as timid as her. She's not worth it."
Walter glanced at Sophia getting into her car, his eyes filled with disdain.
He had hoped Sophia could truly help Philip, but now it seemed she was of no use.
"She's indeed worthless, abandoning her family's revenge. She's just a pawn to be manipulated."
Philip looked at the mess on the floor and closed his eyes.
Meanwhile, Sophia got into her car, a smirk forming on her lips.
"Drive. Take me back to the villa."
She leaned back, looking out the window, still able to see Philip's silhouette.
If she couldn't understand Philip's intentions, it was better to let him think she was useless.
That way, he wouldn't involve her in his plans.
She closed her eyes, recalling the image of Philip covered in blood.
The bloody figure haunted her, drawing closer.
Sophia furrowed her brows, sneering. When she opened her eyes, the car was peaceful, the only sound being the music playing.
Philip's situation was pitiful. Even if she wanted to help, she didn't know what hell awaited. It was better to stay safe first and plan later.
She slept soundly, without dreams.
"Mrs. Mitchell, did you sleep well last night? You look better than usual."
Sophia smiled as Fallon walked to the dining table.
"After breakfast, let's go to Jade Haven and see what needs fixing."
Isla handed her a list, speaking seriously.
"Ms. Brown, Jade Haven received a lot of orders recently, especially for the product from last night. Many people want to buy the same model."
As she expected, the product sold out overnight.
Aurelia was instrumental in this success. Without her introduction, Jade Haven wouldn't have opened this market.
"Make an announcement. That product is a limited edition, so we can't offer it again. Release a similar model to attract those customers."
She had already told Ronnie it was a one-of-a-kind piece.
"Got it. I'll inform them now."
After resolving the issue, Sophia finished her breakfast, feeling great.
"Mia, your cooking is getting better and better. You could easily win a chef competition."
Mia blushed, covering her face with her hands.
"Mrs. Mitchell, you always praise me, but as long as you like it, I'll keep cooking!"
Seeing Mia's flushed face, Sophia shook her head, checking the time.
"Let's go to Jade Haven."
