Chapter 71 Sophia Has a Husband!
Chapter 71 Sophia Has a Husband!
"You!"
Aurelia was about to argue further, but Sophia stopped her.
"Consider it my bad luck! Sophia, let's bounce!"
She rolled her eyes, grabbed Sophia's wrist, and tried to leave, but a line of people blocked their way at the door.
"Mr. Mitchell, what's the deal here?"
Philip slowly turned around.
"You can go. She stays."
Sophia thought to herself, just as expected, this won't be easy.
"Aurelia, you head home first. If anything comes up, I'll text you. Isla, you should leave, too."
The fewer people involved right now, the better.
Aurelia was worried. Philip's twisted nature was well-known.
If Philip took advantage of the situation, wouldn't Sophia be in grave danger?
"No way! We leave together. If something happens to you, how am I supposed to explain it to your husband?"
Sophia was speechless.
What a good friend, still thinking about her at a time like this.
Hearing this, Philip's anger subsided a bit, and he sneered.
"Knowing she's married, you still take her to a bar. You sure know how to have fun."
Philip turned his cold gaze to Aurelia, making her heart pound.
Everyone in Emerald City knew how terrifying Philip could be.
He was a complete psycho!
Whether male or female, young or old, anyone who crossed him would meet a bad end.
Aurelia stood tall to muster her courage.
"So what? I just brought Sophia here to relax. Besides, you're not her husband. Why do you care so much?"
Sophia turned away, avoiding Philip's gaze.
Philip's current feelings about her were still a mystery.
"Everyone, get out."
Philip said calmly. His people quickly cleared the room, leaving only Sophia and him.
Sophia clutched her glass, feeling uneasy under his sharp gaze.
If you have something to say, just say it. Why the silent treatment?
"You come here to drink, completely ignoring what the Mitchell family said?"
Hearing his question, Sophia stepped forward, raising her glass gently.
"Freshly squeezed juice, want some?"
Philip's stern face cracked slightly as he looked at the glass.
His gaze moved to the basket of oranges on the floor, and he laughed in disbelief.
"You came here just to drink fresh juice?"
It sounded both absurd and amusing.
"Aurelia knows I don't drink alcohol, so she arranged this for me. As for those male models, they're just for show, nothing more."
Suddenly, a large hand landed on her waist, sliding under her shirt, fingers lightly teasing her stomach.
"What else do you want them for? You caused a great deal of trouble at the charity auction. Do you want the Mitchell family to find out, imprison you, and then kick you out after you have the baby?"
Philip paused, a smirk forming as he tilted her chin up, forcing her to look at him.
"Sophia, don't think you're safe. Many people want you dead."
Sophia was confused.
Besides the three from the Brown family, who else would target her?
Thea?
It was possible. Her unborn child affected Xander's position.
If Philip lost power, Xander could gain the favor of the Mitchell family and rise quickly. But with this child in the way...
Sophia placed a hand on her stomach, her lips forming a tight line, her eyes filled with worry.
"I get it. I'll be more careful next time."
Seeing that Sophia genuinely realized her mistake, Philip's anger subsided.
He initially thought Aurelia had lost her mind, bringing Sophia here to drink.
Upon entering the room and seeing the table full of alcohol, he almost wanted to burn the entire bar down.
But seeing the juice in her glass, even the usually decisive Philip felt at a loss for words.
"Philip, Aurelia isn't a bad person. She just wanted to take me out for some fun. Can we let this go?"
Sophia cautiously stood close to him, lightly tugging on his sleeve with her fingers.
Seeing this, Philip turned his head away.
"I'm only concerned about the Mitchell family's assets, not you. So don't flatter yourself, thinking I'm here for you..."
"Mr. Mitchell, rest assured, I never thought that. To you, this is just a transaction. I understand the contract."
Philip found it odd that they could have such a reasonable conversation. He wanted to chat more, but people rushed in.
"Sophia! Are you okay? That jerk didn't do anything to you, did he?"
Aurelia rushed in, hugging Sophia and checking her all over before looking at her face.
"I'm fine, really. Mr. Mitchell just wanted to discuss some business. Looks like we've made quite the impression tonight."
Sophia smiled, brushing it off.
Philip didn't want their relationship known, so she never mentioned it publicly.
Their dynamic puzzled Aurelia.
She glanced between them, whispering to Sophia.
"You're not hiding anything from me, right?"
"Nope. It's late, so I'm heading home. Can't let my husband worry."
Sophia smiled and waved as she walked out.
"I'll take you. It might be hard to get a cab this late."
Sophia shook her head, smiling.
"No need. You've done enough tonight. The orange juice here is great, by the way. Thanks for everything."
Aurelia wanted to say more, but Philip stepped forward, grabbing Sophia's wrist.
"I'll take you home."
Aurelia was stunned.
What was going on?
She watched in disbelief as Philip practically shoved Sophia into the car.
They sat in the back, the dark windows hiding whatever was happening inside.
Isla quickly got in the front passenger seat, and the driver sped off.
"Oh my gosh, if Sophia's husband sees her getting dropped off by another man, won't there be a huge misunderstanding?"
"Why is Philip always lurking around? Could he actually like Sophia?"
The thought seemed absurd even to Aurelia, who shook her head.
"Haha, no way. Philip likes someone? I must be crazy from lack of sleep. Better go home and catch up on rest!"
Inside the car, it was dead silent. No one spoke a word.
Sophia stared out the window, thinking to herself that the atmosphere felt so awkward...
