Chapter 66 I Might Have Encountered a Fool
Chapter 66 I Might Have Encountered a Fool
"That doesn't mean we should let that bitch get away with it!"
Daisy's anger was almost tangible as she glared at Sophia, her eyes practically shooting daggers.
Compared to her fiery temper, Orla was much more composed.
"Today's not the day for this. If you want to put her in her place, wait until the birthday dinner is over. She's standing next to Aurelia, so Opal must have seen her. Chill out."
Hearing this, Daisy clenched her teeth in frustration. If it weren't for Orla holding her back, she would have slapped Sophia right then and there.
"Who is that gorgeous woman?"
"I don't think I've ever seen her before. The woman next to Aurelia is definitely the most stunning one I've ever seen!"
"Her face looks familiar, like I've seen her somewhere before, but I can't quite place it."
The crowd's praises grew louder.
Aurelia showed no signs of jealousy as she confidently led Sophia into the center of the room.
The moment they appeared, they became the focus of everyone's attention.
Some men holding wine glasses started to approach them.
"Ms. Kingsley, congrats on the successful auction. You must be exhausted from all the work today."
The speaker was slender, his features not particularly striking, but it was clear he wasn't Aurelia's type.
"I'm not tired at all. I had people handling everything. Why would I be tired?"
Aurelia was blunt, as usual, pulling Sophia by the wrist and moving to a nearby seat. As soon as they sat down, people began to approach them.
Just seeing the crowd made Aurelia's irritation peak.
"Can't these people just leave us alone?"
Sophia couldn't help but laugh at Aurelia's exasperated expression.
"Come on, don't worry about people who aren't worth it. At least the auction went smoothly, and that's a big accomplishment."
"You're right. Now I can finally relax for a few days. How about I take you on a trip?"
Aurelia's sincere offer caught Sophia off guard.
She remembered she had a prenatal check-up tomorrow and wondered how the baby was doing.
Sophia's gaze softened as she picked up a glass of juice.
"I need to focus on my store for the next few days. It's almost the end of the month, and I have to prepare for payroll."
"So, you don't have time for this. No worries, we'll go another time."
Just as Aurelia finished speaking, a man in a suit approached from a distance.
He glanced at Aurelia with disdain.
"Looks like another person trying to cozy up to the Kingsley family. You've dealt with this kind of thing before, right? There's no real emotion between men and women, just interests."
Aurelia's lips curled into a mocking smile, ready to retort.
But someone bypassed Aurelia and went straight to Sophia, scrutinizing her before speaking.
"Sophia?"
The tone of confusion and surprise indicated he couldn't believe his eyes.
Sophia turned to look at him, but his well-tailored suit made it hard for her to recognize him immediately.
Before she could respond, Aurelia stood up and circled Sean.
"Well, look who it is. I didn't recognize you in that fancy outfit."
The two immediately started bickering, with Aurelia refusing to back down.
Especially since Sean had ignored her earlier. How dare he!
Sean glanced at her briefly before looking away, responding nonchalantly.
"Aurelia, if you have a problem with me, you can take it up with Mrs. Kingsley. I'm not here for you. Can't I go where I want in the banquet hall?"
"You!"
Aurelia was so angry she almost slapped him, but held back for the sake of the Kingsley family. She forced a smile and lowered her arm.
"Well, Mr. Gray, I didn't expect you to be interested in someone else. I heard you're close with Mr. Mitchell. Aren't you afraid he'll be angry with you?"
Sophia was slightly taken aback. They remembered Philip from that day.
Sean rolled his eyes, scanning Aurelia with disdain.
"Do you think standing next to Ms. Brown makes you look dull?"
Why drag her into their fight?
Sophia awkwardly stood up, retreating with a smile.
"I'll go see Mrs. Kingsley. You two can talk."
She quickly escaped the tense situation.
But given their childish behavior, it was like kindergarten kids arguing.
Sophia looked around but didn't see Opal.
Maybe she was in the back, checking the auction items?
"Ms. Brown, are you heading to the back?" Isla asked, noticing her searching.
"Yes, I'm looking for Mrs. Kingsley."
As they turned towards the back, they ran into a familiar face.
Seeing the person, Sophia stopped, her eyes narrowing with undisguised hatred.
The other woman, Emily, was initially surprised to see Sophia dressed up, then assessed her surroundings.
Seeing only one woman with her, Emily crossed her arms and approached, a sneer on her lips.
Isla stepped forward protectively, her fierce gaze stopping Emily in her tracks.
"Just a few days apart, and Sophia, it seems that your new assistant is quite loyal. I heard you're not doing so well now."
Emily paused, eyeing Sophia from head to toe.
"That outfit must have cost a lot to rent."
Sophia frowned. Was Emily an idiot?
Seeing Sophia's silence, Emily grew more arrogant.
"Stop pretending. Those people you brought to your house were actors, right? We were fooled then, but we investigated. Philip is married, but not to you!"
Emily must have gotten some gossip.
Isla looked at Emily like she was an idiot, then whispered to Sophia.
"Ms. Brown, I think this person isn't very smart."
"I agree."
Their whispering annoyed Emily.
"Hey! What are you two whispering about?"
