CHAPTER 170 OH! IT WASN’T A DREAM?

“Selena, it’s too late. It’s already getting to my heart. There’s no way I’m going to get through this.”

“Stop talking.” Selena sobbed as she struggled to hold Titus in her arms. As they approached the mansion, it was already ablaze. Titus didn’t have the energy to rush inside and save anyone. His brother and the other werewolves were inside, and he could sense their agony. The pain was too much for him to bear, so he shut his eyes right there.

“Titus, Titus, Titus!” Selena yelled. “Stay with me. I will save you, okay?” There was no more response, and his body had become completely cold.

“Titus. You can’t die now.” She placed him on the ground. “I know you’re hearing me, and you won’t die. I’ll save you. Okay? I’ll heal you.” She held his hand and stared up at the sky. There was no way she could save him. Everything will be over if she shows up too late. Selena started crying, but stopped abruptly when she remembered something. She gasped. “The Red Water.” She began laughing. “Titus, red water will save you.” She stood up and tried to pick him up again, but he was very heavy. Selena dragged him instead, and as she walked on, the light of a car flashing in her face brought her to a stop.

“Selena.” Isabel dashed towards her. “Selena.”

“Mom, Mom, Mom” Selena turned away from Titus and hugged Isabel instead. “If I don’t save him, he will die.”

“You will then save him.” Hania said as she rushed up to her.

Dalett, Trisha, and Jade rushed up to her, and Selena indicated her plan to use holy water on him to remove the monkshood from his heart. They helped Titus into the car, and she ran her hand through his hair while watching him sleep on her lap. She could hear him breathing again, though it was shallow.

Isabel dashed to the door and opened the organization’s gate. The girls assisted Titus in getting to the statue and placing him there. Selena could feel his pain as she looked at him. They recited the prayers Isabel had instructed them to say and fed Titus holy water.

Selena was dissatisfied because she saw no improvement. She looked at Isabel. “Mom, this isn’t working.”

“All you need is patience. You can relax here for a while. If your grandfather is looking for you, he won’t think about this location.”

“Thank you so much, Mummy.”

Isabel stroked Selena’s hair. “I’m so sorry I didn’t realize.”

“I didn’t inform you about it.”

Isabel shakes her head. “You would have if I had been a good mother, but I wasn’t, and I sincerely apologize.”

“That’s all I need to hear. Mom.” Selena leaned in and hugged Isabel. “Thank you for being there for me when I most needed you.”

“You’re more powerful than you know, my girl. Don’t let your grandfather’s retaliation bring you down.”

Selena turned her gaze to Titus. “Don’t you resent him? Because of what he did to Daddy?”

“I can’t hate him because your father did even worse. It all began with vengeance and look where it led us!”

“What do you mean? Selena. The Alpha was very calm. I knew him before he became an Alpha. Your father, along with other hunters, murdered his parents. He wanted vengeance, so he started the killings. When I told Grandpa not to fight anymore, he refused. He is really stubborn, and I wish there was a way to persuade him that werewolves are not our enemies.”

Selena turned her gaze to Hania. “I had no idea you knew about me. You never flinched or trembled while with me.”

Hania smiled. “That’s because you are my sister. Selena, I’ll go to any length to protect you.”

“Thanks, Hania.” Selena leaned in to hug. She felt a hand touch her and turned to look. Titus opened his eyes, and she gasped. “Titus.” She rushed towards him.

Selena assisted Titus in getting up. “Where am I?” He asked. His voice has become clearer.

“Are you OK?”

“I’m fine. I no longer feel pain. I thought I’d died.”

“No. You haven’t. You were brave for me, and I found a way to save you.”

Titus looked around. “Where are Dylan and the rest of the pack?” He glanced at Selena and remembered the fire. “Oh.”

Selena hugged him immediately. “I’m deeply sorry, but we were unable to save them.” Titus sobbed in Selena’s arms.

“My brother.” Dylan was someone he had always vowed to protect, but he, like Tyler, is no longer alive.

“We must get out of here. It looks like we’re the only survivors, Titus.” Selena said to him.

“She’s right. I doubt if my grandfather wouldn’t back down. You all need to leave this place. Is there any place you can go?” Hania inquired.

Titus wiped away his tears and nodded. “Indonesia,” he said, gazing at Selena. “The wolf king will welcome us there.”

“Then I feel like we should get you on a flight to Indonesia.” Isabel said.

“Mom. We don’t have any plane tickets or passports.”

“My girl, I’m Mrs. O’Brien for a reason.” She rose to her feet and helped Selena get up. Titus was already full of energy, but the pain of his brother’s death left him feeling frail in his heart. “Let’s get the hell out of here!”

Selena smiled as she watched the streetlights on her way to the airport. Her fingers intertwined with Titus’s. When they got out of the car, they made their way to the airport. Selena turned to face her mother.

“Mom, I love you.” She wrapped her arms around Isabel. Her gaze shifted to Trisha and Dalett. “I’m going to miss you two, and I wish you could join me.”

“We’ll be over there for New Year's.” Trisha spoke as the three of them hugged each other. When they were separated, they both began to cry.

Selena turned her gaze to Jade. “You should look after Mom and Hania. Jade, you’re truly brilliant, and you should use it to achieve your goals.” She hugged her younger sister very tightly. “You can have all of my clothes as well.” Selena’s remark made Jade laugh.

“I’ll miss you even more, Selena. Make sure to answer FaceTime whenever I call. Okay?”

“I will, Jade.” Selena smiled at Hania. “I’m deeply sorry that I wasn’t a good sister.”

“Are you kidding? You are amusing. My job is to protect you, which is exactly what I will do.”

Hania pulled Selena into a hug. “Selena, I will miss you.”

“I will miss you, too. I will miss you all.” They all shared a group hug. Selena smiled cheerfully at everyone. She walked with one hand waving goodbye and the other interlocked with Titus.

“Selena. Selena! Wake up! You will be late for your orientation!” Jade jolted Selena. “Daddy is upset at you right now, Selena.”

Selena groaned and flipped her eyes open. She drew her hair out of her mouth and looked at Jade dryly. She let out a gasp. “Did you just say, Daddy?”

“Yes. And he is upset.”

“Dad isn’t dead?”

“What the hell are you talking about, Selena? Of course, he is still alive. Get up!” Selena’s lips curled into a bright smile as she got out of bed and dashed to the door. “Where are you going?”

“To see my Daddy.”

“You are insane.” Jade trailed behind.

Selena was even more surprised when she saw her father walk into the house; he was on the phone, but she didn’t mind. She was pleased to see him. She dashed down the stairs to embrace him tightly. “Daddy.”

“Why are you not ready yet? You’re going to be late.”

“Just a little bit longer, and I will be ready.”

“We could always hug later. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Right.” Selena released herself. She focused her gaze on her father’s face. He never died. It was all a fantasy. Everything was a dream. “I will get ready.” She ran back to her room to prepare.

Selena couldn’t believe it was all a dream as she climbed into the car. The adventure. The world of werewolves... Titus. She put her hand on her necklace. Titus didn’t exist.

“Darling. Did you bring your bags?” Isabel asked.

“Mom. It’s only an orientation. And I’m not resuming yet.”

“It’s Oxford, Selena. Everyone will be eager to resume early.” Isabel chuckled.

Selena rolled her eyes. “Trisha and Dalett, please inform my mother that she doesn’t need to follow us.”

“I enjoy it when Mrs. O’Brien is around.” Trisha said. “She is entertaining, and since this is also our orientation, I believe she should stay with me.”

“You don’t appreciate your mother, Selena. Your friends are overjoyed that she is joining them.” Jordan said.

When they arrived, he parked his car. Selena was the first to go down. She was surprised by the school’s appearance. “Hania is really enjoying herself here. She will be surprised to see me here today.”

“I knew not telling her you want to school here to study law was a good decision.” Jade said. “I can’t wait to see her shocked expression.”

“Oh.” Selena’s scarf slipped from her grasp and blew in one direction. As she ran after it, her leg stepped on a loose shoelace, causing her to fall but catch her in midair. Selena opened her eyes to see who it was, but to her surprise, the face was not what she expected. Her eyes widened. He is real, after all. “Titus?” She called.

He smiled as he assisted her to stand. He knelt down to properly tie her shoelace. Standing up, he couldn’t take his eyes off the redhead in front of him.

Thank you. “For the save...A, and the shoelace.” Selena stuttered. Her gaze never left his.

“You should take care. Besides, how do you know my name?”

Selena studied his eyes. He has the most stunning smile. How can someone be so beautiful? It would be insane if she claimed they fell in love in a dream. “I... I’m not sure. You just resemble a Titus.”

“You are absolutely right. My name is Titus, and I’m in my third year of engineering. What about you?”

“Selena. I am Selena O’Brien. A freshman.”

Titus grabbed her scarf from the ground and handed it to her. “Okay, Selena. You’re very attractive. What would you say if I invited you out to lunch?”

Selena chuckled. “I’d say, of course."

The End.
