Chapter 229: We Are Done
Jessica
The Ridouam Taghi wasn't supposed to be here. I could only hope the oldest Rizzo would show up because they were surrounded and they were at disadvantage because of only one reason, a gun pointed at my head.
“I heard about you a lot.” Emma cooed, looking at Adriano.
“That maze, I have to say, sends chills down my spine too.”
He gave her a lethal grin which would have sent me running far away from him.
“How about I give you a proper tour?” He offered but Emma however kept smiling.
“Bring Lucas here.” She looked at him.
Lucas was pushed to his knees in front of his sister, he looked her in the eyes. The same eyes, both shape and color. Yet they couldn't be more different. Emma removed the gun from my head and pointed it at Lucas, Kane stepped back with me in his arms. Some men moved as if to cover us.
“Evelyn,” she called and made her kneel beside Lucas. Evelyn didn't even glance at the gun, instead she looked at Lucas with so much love that it squeezed my head.
“Isn't this cute?” Emma smiled.
“A perfect couple, yet my brother couldn't keep you.” She sighed a dramatic sigh and looked at Adriano.
“”Choose.” She muttered and Adriano froze. I held my breath, no. Emma chuckled.
“Choose one, Rizzo. Your best friend or his lover.”
“Adriano,” Lucas called, his eyes on the gun as if welcoming death.
“Evelyn,” he was pleading.
“No,” Callan snarled.
“Fucking hell no!”
Logan looked pale, Kane took a few more steps back. A few men came in front of us and I could still see the kneeled lovers. Callan and Logan’s eyes flickered to me for a moment. Raphael also saw me but he did nothing. Where did Sarah, or Nneka go?
“Please,” Evelyn whispered, looking at Adriano.
“I have always lived in fear, let me be free of it.”
I was about to sob out but Kane muffled me with his hands. Tears rolled out of my eyes. Evelyn lowered her head as if submitting to death.
“Tell me, Adriano.” She said.
“Give me a name or I will kill them both.”
“Adriano,” Lucas pleaded.
“Adriano,” Logan called.
“Please…” he could lose his brother. A moment passed, the world stilled.
“Evelyn,” Adriano muttered.
One bullet and then everything was set in motion, Evelyn fell, blood spraying over Lucas, staining his skin and his hair. Raphael shot, successfully hitting Emma on the shoulder. She stumbled, Lucas grabbed her gun and he turned and pointed it at Adriano.
_____________
Callan POV
Lucas’s hands shook as he pointed the gun at Adriano but Adriano stood unblinking. Men rushed past us, one grabbing Emma who just laughed, the other shot her men. But the gunshot faded into nothing as I watched my brother.
“You…” Lucas swallowed.
“You had no right.” He said and Adriano kept quiet.
“Lucas?” I called, trying to approach but he raised a hand with a drop of blood on it. I forced myself to look down at Evelyn, a bullet hole was right in the middle of her forehead. I didn't need to check, I know she is dead.
“I will kill you.” Lucas said, his voice a whisper and then the gun moved towards Abel. What the fucking hell.
“Lucas no..” he shot and Abel fell down.
A friend for a friend, or whatever Evelyn had been to him. He pocketed the gun. Adriano and Luciano stared down at Abel.
“We are done.” Luciano said quietly.
“We are.” Lucas said.
“Come back to my county or city, and I will kill you.” Adriano said and I have never seen him more quiet.
__________
Jessica POV
Sarah stuffed me into the car, the sunrise began to whisper in the sky. Kane had left me with her. She looked down at her phone and her jaw tightening.
“Lucas shot Abel.” She told me, wearing her seatbelt as I finally took off the rope.
“You and your boyfriends have only two hours to leave before the Rizzos start hunting.” She started the car.
“I am taking you to the airport, this Santoro will be there.”
“What about Evelyn?”
“She is dead, Jessica.” She looked at me through the rearview mirror, pain flashing in her eyes.
“I am sorry.” I took in a shaky breath.
“And my sisters?”
“They will be protected, they are Sophy’s sisters too. The most important thing for now is to get you to the damn airport.”
I stayed quiet, panic leaving me slowly till I was filled with grief. Evelyn had been through so much only for her life to end this way. I wiped my tears off. Life wasn't fair, I knew that. Life was cruel and unpredictable and it felt like the enemy sometimes but what was the point if possible like her, so deserving of happiness never get happiness? She loved the wrong man, but Lucas had been willing to sacrifice himself. But I'd that even matter now? She is dead, and he is alive. Years of old friendship was snapped in one night. Brothers separate, I wondered if that was somehow what Emma intended.
Neither of them spoke as I cried into Logan's chest, my shoulders shaking as I can't stop crying.
“Baby girl,” I sniffed, pulling away. He wiped the tears off my face and pulled me on his lap. I set my head against his shoulders, looking out of the tiny window of the jet. The clouds were pretty.
I looked at Lucas who was sitting across from us, beside Callan. He had wiped the blood off him, and had changed his clothes. No sign of grief was on his face, yet I had seen the utter devastation on his face when Evelyn was shot. He is so good at hiding. I looked at Callan, he had his eyes glued to me. Lucas stood up, walking away. He hadn't said a word and I got off Logan’s lap.
“Can I talk to him?” I asked. Logan looked at me and then at Callan.
“If you want to, he won't be nice, Jessica.” I nodded, walking to the small room. The door was open. He looked at me, running a tattooed hand through his hair.
“Sit with me, Jessica.” He nodded towards a nearby seat, I sat down and crossed my legs. He looked at me and then at his hands.
“You are the only person who would have chosen Evelyn over me.”
I didn't disagree with that, he smiled and chuckled.
“She was a friend.” He said.
“To me, I never loved her like she loved me, I don't think I am even capable of loving someone like that, like how my brothers loves you.”
“She died for you.” I muttered and he actually flinched. I have never seen a Santoro flinch.
“I know,” he whispered.
“I know, Romero. She deserved a man far better than me yet I am the one she had.” He clenched his fist.
“Are you…are you going to go after Adriano?” He looked at me.
