135. Training outside the mansion
Chapter 135
Max looked worried and confused but Cypher knew that it was no other person than his brother.
"It's Gareth, he somehow found out that Ashton betrayed him and he couldn't take it." Cypher dropped his spoon feeling bitter suddenly, he didn't like that his brother was still roaming freely.
"But Ashton never said a word Cypher, he was discreet about it and I fulfilled my bargains," Max replied worriedly, he panicked for his family despite the number of guards that boozed around his pack. The King of Dalim was in Cypher's custody and the pack will definitely be merged soon with Star Crescent but it did nothing to quench his worry. He just felt that Gareth was up to no good and was seeking useless revenge.
"But what on earth changed Ashton's mind, he would never betray Gareth no matter what happens."
Cypher was curious , Heaven stared at them silently and focused more on sipping the juice.
The air was thick with tension and nervousness and even Grayson had to stay over.
"Freedom." Max blurted out and Cypher raised his brows in confusion.
"I promised him freedom, he was going to leave the boundaries of the pack with my protection and of course, a whole amount of money to start a new life. It was obvious that he was fed up with Gareth's fanatics and psychic abilities."
Cypher sighed deeply and pinched his brows thinking of what to do next. He tried not to let the responsibilities around him weigh him down but it seemed he was failing woefully.
His brother was on the run like an invisible wind, his dear mate willingly gave her necklace to a little boy she loves the most and was now missing, his beta was nowhere to be found due to his foolishness and now the Clan had ganged up against him to discuss god's know what!
"Look, Max, you need to deal with your shit? You started this by having nothing to do with my brother, right now, I'm in a whirlwind of problems and if I don't solve it, it's going to drain me dry."
"Common Cypher, Gareth threatened my family. I had to give in and I came here because I thought you would have any idea where your brother went." Max replied in frustration and Cypher shook his head, totally feeling a puking stir at the pit of his stomach concerning his brother's absence.
"I don't. Just be vigilant and watch out. He knows where you stay which is a risky thing so you should be able to protect your family so focus on them and close the borders of your pack. I'll tackle mine." He told him and turned the chair to face Grayson.
"I need Zane."
"I'm sorry Alpha but he seemed to have disappeared. I checked everywhere in the mansion and even outside while training your future Luna, not even a waft of his scent was heard."Grayson innocently explained but regretted at once when he saw the reaction of Cypher who stood up abruptly and a low grumble vibrated at the pit of his chest.
"You did what?" His voice came out as an echo but even a deaf person could hear the deadly tone that came with it.
"Al.. Alpha?" He swallowed a gulp of his saliva, wondering what he said so wrong to make him react this way. Wasn't he the one who insisted on training her? Especially when she came to him in tears to plead for her to be stronger than before. He was confused because the lady already had her powers to keep her sane but who was he to go against her plea but right now, it was as if he committed the worst crime ever and he hated it.
" She's not meant to step her feet outside her room, talk more of the pack!!" He roared in anger, his eyes glinting even through the rays of the sun as the Incident of what had happened with Kyle resurfaced freshly in his memory, the Altar Blood poison bullshit and the dangers that came with it. It was scary as hell and he didn't want any of that to happen.
"I'm sorry Alpha, she made a request I couldn't turn down."
"Where is she?" He asked, his jaw ticked with every movement of his lips, and Grayson bit his lips.
"She's waiting for me–in the fields." He swallowed and Cypher gritted his teeth.
"Is anything wrong Cypher?" Max couldn't help but the curiosity in Heaven's face couldn't make him just leave without a response.
"Everything is fine."
"No, it's not. You're been too protective of someone who practically fought a deadly war with you? What's so bad about training outside the mansion?"
Max insisted and his anger boiled to 100 degrees, the harsh reality that Kaylan was no longer that person, punching him in the guts.
"I don't think that's your business Max, fuck off and deal with your shit! Don't interfere with mine." He spat out, stood up, and walked out of their sight, taking a fast and heavy stride to the fields.
He didn't care if he was overreaching, all he knew was that she was meant to stay indoors and not roam around when Gareth was still out there and when she could barely protect herself.
His shoes made a floppy sound on the wet fields and his wolf leaped in excitement to see her but it wasn't the case for him. He was mad at her and wished to avoid her for as long as he could till the end of their coronation. She squatted and drew Invisible lines on the wet field. Her long silky hair cascaded down while it covered her bare back due to the clothes she wore
She heard some footsteps and she grinned anxiously and turned.
"I think I know how to tackle my opponent at their weakest and– " Her smile dropped, and her words hung in the air as faced him.
