Chapter 98 Kill yourself

Chapter 98 Kill yourself
Chapter 98: Scarlett
As the jubilation of the revelation went on around me, I felt a tug in my chest and that same feeling returned…
That unease that something was missing. Or that I had to find someone…
The tears of joy on my face dried up as I watched Bee… I was happy that he was my brother. I was happy that after so many years of searching, I had found him.
But for some reason, finding him didn’t stop that itch deep inside of me.
The same feeling I had been getting ever since the day we got requested from Willow’s wicked clutches… What was it?
My thoughts became jumbled and my emotions blanked out.
Somehow, I was no longer in the celebration. I felt detached…
Subconsciously I looked around. I didn’t know what I was searching for, but it was almost like I could feel someone watching me.
I knew this was ridiculous to even say out loud considering the amount of people that had trooped into the hall to celebrate with us…
But this stare… they felt different.
Yet as I turned to search around me, I found no one. That particular stare was gone.
And it just flared up the strange unease I already had. It was crazy to think but I could swear they were connected.
But the feeling and the stare.
What if this person that was staring at me just a minute ago, was the one I was meant to find. What if they were the reason I felt this way all along?
Or why I didn’t even object to waiting here with Fiona and Albert and everyone in the lost kingdom…
What if they were my mate?
My heart flipped at this thought, but unlike the others, I didn’t dismiss it. Surely there had to be some truth in it.
—Truth I was going to find.
“Excuse me,” I whispered to Blade who was closest to me and started walking between the well-wishers to the nearest exit.
I was already seeing the exit sign and barely checked behind me when soft arms suddenly pulled my arm, stopping me.
“Where are you going so fast, Scarlett?” Violet’s excited voice cut through me.
Not wanting to worry her with my problems, I quickly muscled up a fake smile and brought my palm over hers.
“Oh, I just need to use the ladies…” I said; “I am so excited my bladder feels full,” I added with an awkward laughter seeing the look in her eyes.
The spark in her eyes flickered. But she nodded… almost as if she knew that I was lying. Yet just decided to let me off the hook.
“Okay… hurry up and join the party then.”
“Yeah— sure,” I quickly nodded before continuing my escape.
This time I made my steps appear more natural than briskly to avoid more questions.
My aim was clear. The crystal.
The voices had said I had three wishes which meant that I still had two since I already used one to find my brother.
As I got into my room, the first thing my eyes fell on was the crystal ball. Not because my mind was already on it.
But because, it was literally pulsing. Almost like it already knew that I was coming for it.
A shiver ran down my spine as it actually knocked down on me again, that was messing with a lot of energy here.
The heat from the crystal alone was enough to put me on edge.
If I wasn’t griefing and desperate to end this itch in my subconscious, I wouldn’t have been found two miles close to this thing!
The out of the world feeling, strange air and the voices started as I moved closer.
My heart rammed in my chest and my palms grew sweaty. Almost like I was attempting an impossible fit.
“What is your second wish, child of Talon?” The voices sang, their tone a little higher than the first time.
— As if they sensed something I couldn’t.
But I wasn’t going to give up now. I was already too close to the truth now.
“I want to know who my mate is… are they in this place? Are they the one I sense?”
“One question at a time, child of Talon…” they replied. “Ask for what you truly want…”
A knot tied itself in my stomach and I felt a tremor of fear pas through me. But I swallowed hard and took my stance.
“Who is my mate?” I finally asked.
The voices cackled. “Oh child of Talon… well give you something even better…”
The air in the room stood still and just like the first time, light flared from the crystal. It was so bright it swallowed the whole room.
But rather than create an image like it did with Bee, it shot right into me.
I stumbled back, feeling the brightness like flames in my head. But just as I tried to process it, memories flooded me.
Every single moment of my life replayed itself… and like a twist in a movie, it hit me.
I staggered back, clutching my head in my arms as the images poured in.
His beautiful smile, his wicked schemes and lies… His love… his betrayal…
And now, his remorse.
Yes, I finally saw him now. The man I thought was just a soldier… the one who clung in the corners like a rejected little pup…
He was my mate.
His name echoed as my heart shattered; “A— Asher…”
My breath instantly faltered as the itch I had felt this past couple of days finally cleared out as all my memories returned.
Tears flooded out of me as the truth and reality consumed me. My heart slammed against my ribs aching with only one thought…
I had to find him. I had to speak to him.
I had to find out what he did to me… to us… why did he betrayed our bond like this?
I wanted to look into his eyes and ask him if he was happy about the destruction he had caused for me, for everyone… and for himself…
Before I could think, my feet moved and following my burning heart, I went straight to his room.
But as I got there, a strange kind of cold seeped through me.
The door was closed.
My anger was suddenly pushed to the bottom as panic rose inside of me.
Quickly I ran to it, slamming my palms against the wood as I began to scream. “Asher! Open this door! Right now!”
I had no idea what was going on inside, but every part of me screamed in fear.
As much as I hated him. I didn’t want to lose him. Not like this…
“Asher, open this damn door! I know you are in there! Open it!”
The panic inside of me pushed my tears as cold slipped into me even harder. This was no longer a joke.
“Asher! Listen,” my voice cracked, and I didn’t even care. “Asher, listen to me… I remember you now. I need to speak to you… I need to see you—“
The sound of metal crashing to the ground from somewhere within the room, made my heart stop.
“Asher—“ I was starting to yell when suddenly the door opened.
And there he was standing right in front of me with disbelief in his eyes.
“Scarlett…” His voice broke on my name.
Relief was already tearing through me— until my eyes landed on the small patch of blood on his chest and the stained knife in the floor behind him.
Then it made sense. And my fury returned like an avalanche.
Before I could even finish processing it, I swatted my hand hard across his face.
“You were going to fucking kill yourself?“ I yelled, the sound cracking the silence that had filled the space between us.
“You were going to run away from this?” I added, my eyes slowly taking him in and all I could see was red.
And he stayed silent. His lips trembled in what I couldn’t even decipher at that moment.
“Did you think that would fucking fix anything? Or that dying would undo what you did? That leaving me— and the world— would make it better?”
A shudder crossed his eyes as he slowly shook his head.
But I was too mad for silent answers. I shoved him hard on the chest.
“Answer me, Asher! Did you really think it was the smartest thing to do?”
He wiped off the tears now slipping from his eyes and finally replied. “Scarlet… I— I thought… maybe it was the only way to give you peace.”
“Peace?” I hissed, tears spilling down my cheeks.
“You shattered me, Asher! You let Willow lead you even after making me believe that there was still some good in you! That you will make the right decision! Do you know how much I hated you for that? How much I hated myself for still loving you?”
His hands trembled as he dropped eyes in shame. “I was weak, Scarlett. Willow twisted me, and I—” His breath shuddered. “I failed you. I failed everyone—”
“And you think ending your life will undo what happened?!” My voice shook with fury and heartbreak. “You think it’ll erase the pain? The truth? Me?!”
“Scarlett—“
“If you want to die so badly… if you want to leave me so badly…” I hissed, pushing past him to pick up the stupid knife.
“Then do it.” I said, stretching it to him. “Do it right now, in front of me… kill yourself, Asher…”
