Chapter 34 Use me
Chapter 34: Scarlett
Somehow Bee's words had given me the strength I needed. I wiped my tears clean and sat calmly on the concrete bed, waiting for a miracle.
At this point, I could only hope that Bee didn't betray me too. I could only pray that his intentions were pure and I would be able to get back Asher.
I thought hard of my time with Bee, hoping to track down if there were any signs that he perhaps liked me too in the manner that Luciano had done.
I had been kind to him— but I prayed that didn't bring him to have a crush on me like Luciano. The last thing I would need would be for him to confess his feelings in the same manner. I would probably lose my mind and my life.
I was still lost in my thoughts when the main door creaked open. My eyes instantly went to it. Bee walked in and I got on my feet.
But my feet grew heavy as I saw an officer with him. The man looked older than the guards at the door and the numbers of stars on his uniform was a clear indication that he was a very high ranked soldier.
As they got closer and Bee turned on the main light, the officer's features became clear and I recognized him as the captain— captain Albert. He was one of Asher's close soldiers. He never went anywhere without him.
What was he doing here?
"Bee, is— is everything alright?" I stuttered as I held the bars of my cell.
"My queen, this is the captain. He has accepted to help us," Bee announced and my eyes moved to the man, unsure of what to make of this.
How could Asher's most trusted soldier be on my side— just like that?
As if reading my thoughts, the man stepped forward and bowed.
"Princess, I know you must be thinking of so many things but I would like to first of all apologize about what is happening," he said and my brows furrowed further.
But I held my tongue and listened to him as he continued.
"It was never our intention... I had hoped that Asher would act differently with you around..." He trailed and a small smile covered his aged face. "But the goddess knows best. I am sure everything will work out well in the end. She is never wrong..."
"You think Asher will give me a second chance?" He spoke with such confidence, I couldn't help but I ask.
"I think the goddess is trying to do something here. She brought you into Asher's life for a reason and if you could open your heart more, you will be able to fulfil that reason," he said.
I was still trying to get my head around his words when he pulled out a bunch of keys from his pockets.
My eyes widened and I looked at Bee. "He has asked for me?" I whispered but Bee only smiled, it was the captain who replied.
"He has asked me to release you," he said as he unlocked the door.
My heart started beating with excitement, unable to believe that it was finally happening. Bee had done it.
As I stepped out, I bowed before the man. "Thank you so much, captain." Then for Bee, I hugged him. "This couldn't have been possible without you."
"Oh, no, I didn't do anything," Bee chuckled. "It was all Captain Albert. He was already coming here when I saw him."
My gratitude grew even greater and I wanted to bow once more but he stopped me.
"Please, I am only doing what I should have done a long time ago... You see, Asher is like a son to me. His father and I were good friends before he died..." He said as we began to walk out of the cell together.
I nodded as he gave me details of his relationship with Asher. I could finally see why Asher went everywhere with him, he was the closest thing to a family Asher could have if we placed Violet aside.
"And I— really don't support this whole regain the lost land plan but as a simple servant to the king, I had to support him with hopes that one day he would get over it..." He finally whispered as we got to the stairs.
My eyes studied his face and the lines of worry were clearly evident that the matter worried him— yet, I hoped that it was not deceptive.
"Why didn't you stop him when he went on with the plan then?" I asked.
"The loss of his family left him with a big hole in his heart... And he failed to see that his grandfather wasn't a very good man that was why your father, king Talon had to take the lands from him... It is a complicated story but deep down, Asher knows the truth. He has just refused to see it..."
Bee took my hand at that moment and squeezed it gently. "That's why we are hoping that with your presence and your love, the king will one day let go of his pain."
"He is right, there are lots of us that pray for that day to come soon..." Captain Albert added with a sigh. "Anyway, I have to leave now. Please do take care of yourself and if you ever need anything, do not hesitate to tell me."
He gave us a quick nod before turning and heading in the opposite direction of the stairs.
My mind just stayed numb. I wanted to speak, but words felt heavy on my tongue. As if sensing my inner turmoil, Bee simply led me up the stairs till we got to my room.
"I don't think it's safe for you to stay here, tonight..." He whispered and my eyes narrowed.
But staring at him, I understood his worries. "You think Luciano would come?"
"I think by now he already knows that the king has released you. Knowing him, I am sure he is already planning something else," Bee replied.
"Should we inform the captain?" I countered. "Maybe he could position guards here for me."
Bee was quiet for a moment before he spoke up again. "I think the safest place for you to be is with the King... Luciano can never hurt you there. Not even in the king's absence."
I quietly thought about it and saw no loopholes. Bee was simply looking out for me, and this could even help me win Asher over.
"If Luciano is playing a game, you should be three steps ahead of him," Bee added.
Determination coursed through me and I nodded. "You are right, this is the right thing to do."
Quickly, I stepped into my room and packed the first things my hands could touch. When I was done, I washed myself clean and changed into fresh clothes.
"You should go now... I don't want you to get in trouble," I told Bee as I stepped out of the room with the bag— he had remained by the door to stand watch in case Luciano was coming.
He took my hand and smiled at me. "I will go now... Make sure you stay safe and if you need me, I'll be in the garden every evening to check on you."
"Thank you, Bee." We hugged each other once more, before I quickly made my way to Asher's room.
As I approached the room, my heart started racing as I feared what I would meet there. Luckily the guards at the door, simply bowed at me, not once questioning my presence.
With my shoulders high, I walked through the open doors and released a shaky breath as I met it empty. Asher wasn't back yet.
I quickly placed my bag in a corner of his closet and sat on the bed, waiting for his return.
My heart was drumming with each passing second as I feared what his reaction would be but I was determined to make this work. He was my mate.
He wouldn't physically harm me in a way that could kill me... All I had to do was give in to him... Give him the child he wanted, how hard could that be?
As if the goddess was mocking me, the door opened at that moment and Asher stepped in. His tall and large frame, seemed even more intimidating as he glared at me.
"What do you want here?" He growled.
My heart jerked but my wolf remained calm. This was it. This was my chance.
With slow deliberate steps, I got off the bed and approached him.
"I am sorry, Asher... I know what you wanted but I— I foolishly thought it would be wise to prevent you from getting it..."
His eyes narrowed but he stayed quiet and watched me stop before him.
A courage I didn't know I had, flooded my cells and I let my fingers slip under the ends of my dress. And just like that, I took it off, leaving myself bare before his eyes.
"To prove that I am truly sorry... I have brought myself to you... For you to use me as you deem fit…”
