Chapter 118 Sadness

On the highway, the traffic was speeding by.

Maria was anxious but couldn't do anything; the traffic was too fast for her to stop a car unless she wanted to cause an accident.

While Maria was anxious, Henry was also worried. He couldn't find Maria, and all the news he received was that she hadn't been found. A bad feeling rose in Henry's heart.

Diana noticed Henry's worsening expression and felt uncomfortable, but she didn't dare to say anything, as saying anything now could easily make things worse.

As the sky gradually darkened, Maria's heart sank. She decided not to wait in place any longer and started walking in one direction. She hadn't walked far when a car suddenly stopped beside her. The door opened, and a familiar male voice called out, "Maria."

Maria turned around, surprised. "Samuel?"

The boy she had met once before. Moments later, Maria got into Samuel's car and learned from him that he was accompanying his boss. Maria nodded, as the car Samuel drove was not cheap.

They chatted briefly, and Samuel frowned slightly at Maria's disheveled appearance. "Maria, what happened to you?"

Maria pursed her lips and looked out the window, her voice calm. "I fell. Please take me to the city."

Maria didn't want to trouble Samuel too much, but he shook his head upon hearing this. "Maria, you don't look well. Do you need to go to the hospital?"

While speaking, Samuel noticed the scratches on Maria's arm, and his tone turned to one of concern. "Maria, you're injured."

The wound on her arm no longer hurt. Maria shook her head and said, "No hospital. I'm fine."

Samuel rarely got serious, but he looked at Maria and said earnestly, "Maria, you must go to the hospital. You can't ignore an injury."

Maria wanted to say something, but when she met his concerned gaze, she couldn't say anything. After getting her wound bandaged at the hospital, Samuel wanted to take Maria to eat, but she refused. "I want to rest. Samuel, if you're not in a hurry to get back to your boss, please take me back to the hotel."

Samuel's eyes flashed with something, but his tone was delighted. "Sure, Maria."

When they arrived at the hotel, Samuel got out and opened the car door for her. He kindly reminded Maria to avoid getting her wound wet and other precautions. Maria felt a warmth in her heart and sincerely said, "Samuel, thank you."

If it weren't for him, she might still be walking on the highway or might have been caught by William's people. No matter what, she owed Samuel a debt of gratitude.

Samuel smiled shyly and scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. "You don't have to be so polite with me. You know, I see you as a sister."

Maria smiled and nodded. Samuel didn't follow her into the hotel, and Maria didn't invite him in, mainly because Diana and Henry were also at the hotel. Watching Samuel's car leave, Maria turned and walked into the hotel.

As soon as she entered the lobby, she saw Henry hurrying towards her. Their eyes met, and Henry's eyes filled with joy. He strode over and hugged Maria tightly.

Henry's embrace was familiar, but this time Maria pushed him away forcefully. Henry was caught off guard and frowned. "Maria, where have you been?"

This was his first question after being pushed away. Maria didn't know if it was concern, but she didn't care anymore, not since she heard Henry say he chose Diana.

Maria didn't answer and walked past him, heading upstairs to her room. Suddenly, her wrist was grabbed, and Henry's face showed anger. "Maria, what do you mean by this? Do you know how long I've been looking for you? Do you know how worried I was?"

"Worried?" Maria laughed. She reached out to Henry, who was stunned. Maria's fingers brushed over the lipstick mark on his face. She looked at Henry with eyes full of sarcasm. "Is this how you find me, how you worry about me?"

Maria was a woman, and she knew what the lipstick mark on Henry's face meant. She had seen it the moment Henry appeared. Her heart ached, but it had ached too many times, and she seemed to have become numb.

Seeing Maria's indifferent expression, Henry suddenly panicked. He explained, "I didn't know. Diana fainted on the way, and I took her back to the hotel. Maybe it got smudged accidentally."

Henry didn't meet Maria's eyes as he spoke. In fact, his words were half true and half false. Diana did faint, but she woke up when he carried her back to the room. She seemed scared and clung to him, saying she was afraid she would never see him again. He could feel Diana's fear, so he sat down to comfort her for a while.

But it seemed that Diana wanted more than just comfort. Thinking about what happened next, Henry took a deep breath. He had rejected Diana, and the lipstick mark must have been left then.

"Really?" Maria gave a bitter smile. She didn't want to pursue the truth of his words anymore because it was meaningless. She felt very tired, having been in fear for two days at William's place and escaping in a sorry state. Her ankle hurt, and Maria felt physically and mentally exhausted. She didn't want to argue with Henry anymore and turned to walk to the elevator. As she entered the elevator, Henry followed.

"Maria, how did you escape? And where did you go?" Henry asked Maria again.

'What's the point of these questions?' Maria thought, feeling exasperated.

At this moment, Henry remembered what Diana had said earlier. She said she didn't know if Maria had already found a way to escape. She and Maria had spent a night in the same room, and Maria might have had some misunderstanding and didn't talk to her.

"Maria, did you already know how to escape?" As the elevator reached Maria's floor, Henry asked the question with difficulty. Maria instantly understood his meaning, feeling a moment of grievance but only for a moment.

"Henry, are you asking why I didn't take Diana with me when I escaped? What did Diana tell you?"

Henry pursed his lips. He could see the mockery in Maria's eyes, which made him a bit irritable. "Diana didn't say anything. After all, you escaped, didn't you? Why didn't you take Diana with you earlier? You were in the same room."

"Henry, is that what she told you?" Maria suddenly laughed, a laugh full of ridicule. Henry frowned at her. Maria suddenly stopped laughing and walked towards her room. Her voice was faint. "If I told you what I saw that night in the same room with her, would you believe me?"

Henry instinctively wanted to ask what she saw, but before he could, Maria had already opened her room door. She looked at Henry and said calmly, "If you want to know, come to my room."

Inside the room, Henry sat alone on the sofa while Maria went to take a shower. After he came in, Maria told him to wait and then went to shower. It didn't take long before the bathroom door opened, and Maria walked out in a bathrobe. The hotel bathrobe was a bit large for her.
