Skipped a beat
Skipped a beat
'I'm sorry' was written on the paper and I just stood there staring at it in my hands. His handwriting is beautiful and neat, these simple two words that he wrote on a small paper barely the size of my hand were making my heart beat faster than it should. I'm really confusing myself, why am I reacting this way and most importantly why am I fighting to suppress a smile. I even had to bite my lips to be successful.
I'm the one who left the door open, I'm the one who rolled on the bed while not wearing much. He didn't barge in yet he still bothered to show such a gesture. I really can't deny the warmth that is spreading on my chest, it's really sweet of him to do this. I guess he knew that I'd be too afraid to leave my room after what happened.
It was after hearing my stomach complain that I stopped about the gesture. I took the tray and closed the door behind me feeling excited to eat everything that was on the tray...
\-four days later-
Finally made enough anti- poison potions, in fact I made even more than last month. I really pushed myself . Nothing much happened mainly because I focused on potions and I've never left the house so I don't know what the others are doing. I cant ask Vale and he often leaves me alone in the house going somewhere important. The basement isn't so bad thanks to the two fans, I had to tell Gloria to tell Vale about my problem as things are still weird between us after what happened. Thanks to my foolishness and his reaction after that.
I only saw him two times after what happened and thank God he didn't say anything about what happened. I feel like as time goes on we'll forget about it, something else that's been bugging me is that I haven't seen Zik for a while now. I kind of miss his stupid jokes but I really wanna hear how they handled the Arina situation. There's no point acting like a child about it, the world is ruthless. I know that if Arina was given a chance she'd definitely give me a tortuous death. In life you have to return what a person gives, if it's kindness then you must also be kind. If It's hatred don't be foolish to ignore that, don't be friendly to a hater. Arina almost got me killed so I shouldn't feel bad that she'll also be killed or maybe has been already .
"you look exhausted, you're pushing yourself too hard"
" I have to or else y'all will be doomed but ice also noticed that you've also been busy"
We were eating at the dining table and I took this opening to hint about his never ending trips. I was kinda curious and hopefully he tells me more about it. " I don't want to but desperate times calls for desperate measures" he sighed and I could tell that he really meant these words. He felt kind of burdened and I get it how being a leader everyone is looking at you with trust and hope. You're their pillar of strength and you always have to come with solutions. It's really hard but I wonder what he means by saying he doesn't want to and my loose mouth couldn't resist " why what's wrong?"
"I'm doing everything I can to convince the Crimson pack to assist us when going to kill the Lake guardian" oh? Wow that's good, that's really good but I guess... " Zik told me how the other packs refuse to come together as one or at least try to work together to eliminate the monsters"
"yes it proving to be hard to convince Lark, I'm thinking of striking a deal but he is very cunning I'll have to be careful. Still if he asks for nonsense I won't agree and most importantly I won't beg a coward like him" Lark must be the pack leader of the Crimson pack then and it looks like Vale doesn't like him very much.
I really don't get the other packs, their stupidity is on another level or are they maybe confident that Vale who they see as their wall won't fall. "what do you think I should do?" he asked surprising, his voice was lower than usual and I just guess that everybody no matter how scary, powerful and fearless they can be needs to talk to somebody.
" honestly I can't tell you what to do and if all fails just know that you did enough. Good things, bad things, unfair and evil things I've seen you do all for the sake of your pack. If I as an outsider can see that then there's no way the pack members fail to see" my words broke through his cold expression with ease and it turned into shock and astonishment. My heart skipped a beat when he showed me a warm smile afterwards that even his eyes were smiling. I didn't think too much and just enjoyed the feeling of warmth when seeing his eyes show something else other than coldness. For minutes we just stared at each other and completely forgot about our food and the world itself. No words came out of his mouth because I could tell he was grateful for those words.
