Chapter 38: Grow
All the murky black liquid was gathering in the center at a not so very slow pace. It was obvious that the process was about to end and the results were close to being revealed to us. I could feel the drums of suspense drumming in my eyes or maybe it was my heart?
The werewolves that were sent by Vale to keep the watch returned, looking at them they didn't even have to explain cause they could only return for one reason. They must've spotted some monsters. Why did they have to come at such a bad time and it's even more worrying that all the werewolves including the ones sent to other corners of the forest also returned. Does this mean that the monsters are coming from all sides.
'The monsters will get here in less than two minutes so get ready and I better see you use those potions Era!'
Vale was sending orders to everyone, the werewolves quickly got into formation and again I was placed at the back. Roseanne was flying not too far above because of the poisonous smoke coming from the lake that was slowly spreading like a dome. I have no choice but to steal my heart and stop it from drowning in fear. Yes I am feeling afraid, the horror is too much to ignore even for an insane person like myself.
The wait wasn't long, the monsters came into view and my heart sank when seeing the kind of monsters there were. Swift Glooms and not a single normal monster was present. The ones coming from the entrance must be more than ninety and the ones coming from other sides were too many for me to estimate their number. Seeing our small number acting as a small wall that plans to block them from the lake infuriated them, they all charged towards us.
The werewolves also did the same because standing in place will only get them overwhelmed and pushed back. I was left with Roseanne who was flying above me, Vale must've told her to protect me. Her arms and hands weren't idle, she was shooting arrows after arrows and I didn't have the luxury to admire her accuracy and abundant energy.
I sent more than twenty wind blades towards Swift Glooms coming from the direction I was facing and more than forty earth spikes rose from the ground and I sent them to the monsters coming from the left and right side.
That managed to drain what energy I managed to recover leaving me panting as though I just finished a long run.
"Don't tell me you're out! You can't be out!" I heard the angel shout and she hasn't stopped firing arrows. Her wings were moving gracefully and she looked like she didn't belong at all in this world. In this hell. I was almost, almost! memorized by her saintly aura.
"Not yet and stop worrying about me cause you're stupid. I got this" I answered and I'm aware she didn't hear me because of the distance. Also because I didn't shout.
I took out a bottle that had an orange liquid inside, it looked too ordinary but it was actually the energy potion. I gulped it in one go and not a second went by as I immediately felt it's effect. A warm soothing sensation travelled all over my body. It felt like I've just woken up from a very replenishing sleep.
I wanted to get into the action but there were still many of these monsters so before I joined the battle I had to lessen the burden for the werewolves. Because as soon as I get in I'll be focusing on myself and won't be able to assist the werewolves.
So with that in mind I held out both my arms and with just a thought three huge boulders slowly rose from the ground. I could actually feel their weight from my arms causing my arms to shake uncontrollably but I bit my lips so hard that blood trickled. I can't believe I'm holding three boulders up in the air with my magic, if it were my physical strength I would've been crushed in less than a second. If I let go now I'll never learn, I'll never grow so I have to endure with my all. The path to achieving something great is not easy.
The three boulders hung up in the air and with my mind I controlled them to crush Swift Glooms that were working together to overwhelm a werewolf. Some would be able to dodge but I didn't give up, my speed ended up increasing thanks to the circumstances. If I can lift such heavy boulders with my magic while my body could never even manage a quarter of the boulder then it's not impossible to use my magic with a speed that matches that of a vampire. I just have to keep pushing.
More than thirty Swift Glooms died under the might of my boulders which is nothing compared to Roseanne's performance. Still I helped with lowering the burden a bit for the werewolves. There's still a lot of room to grow and it may just happen while in battle.
I had to gulp another energy potion meaning I was now left with eight potions. I took out the most impressive potion I've created so far, it's the invisibility potion of course. I poured it over my head and body. As much as I was confident- no in fact I knew it would work I was a bit nervous. Just when I was going to check if it was working Roseanne stopped firing arrows and called out my name with worry. " Era! Era are you okay? Are you...there?"
Her reaction was just the answer I needed even though I had to shout back to her that I was okay which I sort of don't like. It's only now I'm noticing that I sound funny when shouting. She sure wasn't expecting this huh, I guess this is how awesome I am.
