Chapter 36: The lake

The battle was over for now and it made the previously grey forest more colourful. The monster's bodies and their blood were littered all over.

Vale's fur was dirtied by the monster's blood and he had no injuries so I was both surprised and happy to see that. His majestic figure approached me and I was guessing he had something to discuss with me. I sort of had an idea what he was going to say, he is now becoming too predictable.

'I was watching you the entire time back there'

The words that should have been hard to believe were very believable coming from him. I no longer saw him as arrogant and egoistic, a powerful werewolf leader like him is able to watch me while fighting more than one swift Gloom.

' yes and I hope a 'gentleman' like yourself enjoyed watching me get up from the ground because of you'

I fell on my butt because of him! He could've just told me to get off him, Zik never did that to me.

' Now is not the time to be petty. I didn't see you use the potions and I'm too impatient to wait for you to use them the next time we encounter monsters. Start talking!'

This is very deserving of a sigh, is he serious? How could I have used potions in such a short battle that I wasn't even a part of. He is the one who dropped me at the back.

' I'm not gonna tell you about the potions Vale, you're a grown wolf so you can wait...besides there's bigger things to worry about '

' you mean the monster's strange behavior? '

I nodded and my eyes landed on Roseanne's angelic figure.

' that angel of yours was very rash. We don't know where they were going and why they were too set on going to wherever place they were going. We could've secretly followed them but she just had to attack them'

' That might be true but she also wasn't wrong. We don't spare monsters, they're poison and she followed my instructions which is to kill them. We can still go in the direction the monster was going '

This made me cross my arms and tilt my head back as though I didn't hear him which must look stupid because it's a mind link. We're not saying anything out loud.

Just the audacity of his first four words 'that might be true' ?? Of course it's true and he knows it! And Roseanne was very wrong because I get that monsters are a threat to the world but I clearly heard her shout that the monsters are escaping. The monsters weren't running away from us at all, they could've led us to something... I don't know, useful?!

Him saying that she followed his instructions is rubbing it in my face because I'm not as obedient as she is. Yet he says I'm the one being petty but it's fine, I won't let him get me worked up over nothing. He'll be surprised once he says my work in action, in fact it'll be almost too hard for him to 'see' it in action. You know cause invisibility and all...hahahaha okay!

'you know what you're right, we can still go in the direction the monsters were going and I promise you. You'll see my amazing potions in action'

He didn't say anything afterwards and only motioned me to ride on his back and after mind linking the others we followed the direction the monsters were heading to.

I'm still not happy that he didn't talk to Roseanne, it's not that I enjoy pointing out people's mistakes. I just don't want a repeat of the situation, we shouldn't be reckless and run with our eyes closed in situations like these. I also know that if it was me who had done what she did Vale wouldn't have hesitated to tell me that I was wrong. So I'm now interested in their somewhat suspicious unprofessional relationship. The pack seems to be unaware of this or I might be wrong...

This forest was huge because it has been a while now but we soon saw something. Something very unexplainable and what one wouldn't want to explain.

My mouth was hanging but quickly came back to my senses and took out my small note book to try and write down what I was seeing.

'ahem...Vale?'

'its okay I'm here. Stay calm'

I wanted to ask if they have ever came across something like this but his reply answered my question. Even though he tried to be assuring I could tell that this is the first time he is seeing something like this. It's just that unlike me he isn't too spoked by him.

There should have been a big beautiful lake surrounded by big towering green trees but no that wasn't what it was at all.

Instead of clean fresh water there was a murky black liquid very slowly. It looked very sticky. Some sort of dark smoke that I'm sure is poisonous came off from this liquid. Big white bones that didn't belong to humans were floating together with many eyeballs. All of that isn't at all the scariest part, this lake was big. It was really really big and the smoke coming off from it was able to make the surrounding trees melt. There was something inside the lake, something alive was inside the lake and it was big. There at the center where this black liquid was thinker and the smoke gathered there more, it looked like whatever was in the lake was big and powerful. I could sense that this lake of death was now trying to corrupt the creature inside.

This is definitely why the monsters were coming here, this lake is the reason why the monsters were rushing deeper into the forest. I'm now curious what they were going to do once they got here and looking at the big bones and multiple eyeballs I sort of had an idea.
