Chapter 16: The Impossible Rescue
At the same time during Edward torture, Lucian and Seraphina are planning the rescue.
Lucian POV
The air was thick, and the pressure I felt only grew as the plans for Edward’s rescue began to take shape. The clock never stopped, and every passing second was another second he was farther from our protection. I could hear the sounds of my own footsteps echoing through the room, mixed with the muffled murmurs of my men. They were all there, ready to hear what I had to say, but inside, I knew that nothing could fully prepare me for what was to come.
Seraphina was by my side, but her expression said it all. She was still in the process of fully understanding the gravity of the mission she was involved in. This wasn’t a simple rescue operation. It was a silent war, where every move could mean the failure of the entire plan.
The room we were in was cold and impersonal, the hard walls and fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling. A detailed map of the facility where Edward was held was spread out on the table. The place in question was an impenetrable fortress, full of traps, guards, and complex security systems. But none of that mattered now. Every challenge could be overcome, but I needed something more to ensure this mission’s success.
“Let’s get to the point,” I began, my deep voice cutting through the silence. Everyone turned to face me. It was time to take the first steps in getting Edward out of the prison he was living in.
The members of my mafia were gathered around the table, focused and serious. In the midst of all the strategies and possibilities, I knew that the experience of everyone there was crucial. They weren’t just my subordinates; they were my equals. And now, they needed to be the best of all of us.
“This won’t just be a rescue; it’s a life-or-death mission,” I continued. “Every decision we make could be the difference between success and failure. The stakes are high. We’re stepping into enemy territory, and our only advantage is the element of surprise.”
I looked at the map again. Every line, every number, every strategic point needed to be understood. But it wasn’t just the physical terrain that needed to be controlled. The minds of my men had to be in sync. One mistake, one failure, and we would lose more than just Edward. We would lose our chance to rise stronger, to break the ties that our families had built over so long.
“Our first objective is infiltration.” The word hung in the air, weighing on everyone present. “Whoever has the courage to step into enemy lines without being detected will be the key to the mission. And for that, we’ll need the best person to do the job.”
I looked at Seraphina. She didn’t say anything, but her eyes were fixed on me. She was smart and agile, and her infiltration record was flawless. As much as I knew she still didn’t fully understand what was at stake, she was the only option I had. I knew that. But it wouldn’t be easy for her. It wouldn’t be easy for anyone.
“You’ll be the one to go in first,” I said, once again with firmness. “Nothing can go wrong. It has to be you, Seraphina. I trust you to ensure our path is clear and unobstructed.”
She didn’t respond immediately. Seraphina was processing the words with the quick mind I knew so well. She wasn’t a woman of many words, but her eyes said it all. She understood the responsibility being placed on her. This wasn’t just about rescuing Edward. It was the key to our future.
“I understand,” was all she said.
Now, it was my turn to plan the next steps. Every member of our organization had a crucial task. We couldn’t act impulsively; every move needed to be meticulously calculated. I knew we would need the support of my network, so I called in the best men, those I trusted to handle the most delicate moments of the mission.
“Gabriel, you’ll be in charge of coordinating the reinforcements on the outside,” I said, looking at the burly man. “Communication needs to be fast, clear, and precise. If anything goes wrong, you’ll be the line of defense. I trust your ability to ensure that if something goes wrong, you’ll be there to correct the course.”
Gabriel nodded, his expression unshaken.
“Mateo,” I called the second man, who was further to the right. “You and your team will be in charge of backup. If things get tough inside, you’ll have to intervene quickly to extract Seraphina and Edward. But the main mission is to ensure the rescue happens without anyone noticing until it’s too late.”
Mateo didn’t hesitate. He was calm, calculating, and fast, but he knew that even with his experience, we needed more than just brute force to make this mission work. Luck couldn’t be our only ally.
“I’ll be in direct contact with all of you,” I said, focusing on logistics. “But we need to ensure the ground is ours before we take any action. Infiltration routes, response time, risk elimination areas. And, most importantly, the information. No mistakes.”
Each of my words became a cornerstone of the plan, something we needed to build to ensure our chances of success increased. I could feel the tension rising, but I knew that each person there knew what they were doing. They were the foundation of our strength.
“What are we going to do, Lucian?” Gabriel asked. His question was simple, but full of urgency.
“We’ll go in quietly. We’ll destroy the obstacles before they find us. It’ll be a stealth operation. And when we find Edward, we’ll leave quickly. That’s it. But it’ll take more than just a good plan. It’ll take courage.”
Silence filled the room once again. The weight of the responsibility of bringing Edward back was more intense than anyone could imagine. I knew the chances of failure were high, but what motivated me, what gave me strength, was the vision of the future. A future where my family, my organization, and Edward were alive and well. That vision was what kept me going.
I turned to Seraphina, who was focused on everything I had just said. She knew the road ahead wouldn’t be easy. She needed to be at her best physically, mentally, and emotionally to handle what was coming. And as much as she was determined, there was no preparation enough for what she would face.
“You need to be ready for anything, Seraphina. No matter what happens. We’ll put you through the toughest physical and mental tests possible. What you’ll face will require more than you know. It will demand something beyond your understanding. But don’t worry. I’ll be by your side.”
She looked at me, a determined glint in her eyes. She knew the training would be brutal. But she also knew it was the only path to ensure she was ready. The success of the rescue depended on her.
“Let’s begin.”
