Chapter 24 Alpha's Warning

Chapter 24 Alpha's Warning
The spy’s ashes were still scattered on the floor when everything going on in crescent pack was a fear on my shoulders. Whispers began to spread in the pack before dawn as everyone was scared of Moonshade. They were scared of the Hollow Flame and the fire that had answered through me without permission.

By sunrise, words had reached Theron about moonshade's new plan and threat. When he summoned me to the hall, I knew this time he wasn’t calling me just as a guest… but as a threat the pack no longer understood.

As I entered, there was a stretched silence between Myself and Theron. It was heavy and suffocating. I could feel his gaze pressing into me, sharp enough to cut an edge. The firelight flickered across his face but he could control his fury of an Alpha which was barely restrained.

“You should have told me sooner,” he said at last, voice low but laced with command. “About Kade. About how you've been feeling with your fire lately.”

As I rested my hands on my table, my fingers trembled. Then I asked quietly, “Would it have mattered?”. “Would you have believed me if I told you then? Or would you have seen me as a curse, the way they did or as a blessing in disguise?”

He stepped closer to me and could smell pine and smoke curling around me. “I don’t take kindly to half-truths. Especially when they threaten my pack.”

A flare of defiance rose in me, even though my heart hammered painfully. “I never asked to be your threat. I only wanted a place to belong.”

Theron exhaled sharply and dragged his hand through his dark hair. “You think belonging comes without trust? You brought danger to crescent's gate, Aria. Moonshade’s spy wasn’t after the lack but they were after you.

His words sliced deeper than they should have. Guilt twisted inside my chest. “I didn’t know they’d follow me,” I whispered. “I thought I’d left all of that behind.”

“You can’t leave behind what’s written in your blood,” he said with a soft voice, but no less firm. “Whoever you are, whatever this power is, it’s not done with you yet.”

I turned away, blinking back the burn in my eyes. The fire crackled louder than either of us could have expected. Shadows stretched across the walls like ghosts from my past. Alpha Kade’s sneer, the night they cast me out, the whispers that chased me through the forest.

“I didn’t want to hurt anyone,” I said, voice shaking. “But when the poison touched my lips tonight, the flames just came. I didn’t call them. They answered for me. They got angry because it's not an ordinary poison”

For a moment, Theron’s expression softened, the Alpha mask slipping to reveal the man beneath. “You didn’t control it?”

I shook my head. “It’s like the fire knows something I don’t. Like it’s… protecting me.”

Theron stepped closer, until our shadows merged. “That’s what scares me,” he murmured. “Power without control is a weapon. And I can’t protect you or the pack until I know which side of that weapon you stand on.”

I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze fiercely. “Then teach me. Don’t shut me out.”

The firelight reflected in my eyes, gold against the storm brewing in his. He didn’t speak for a long moment. Then, reluctantly, he nodded. “At dawn. Behind the training grounds. I’ll see what you can do and if you can learn to control it.”

A small flicker of relief warmed my chest. “Thank you,” I whispered.

Theron turned toward the door, pausing once. “Don’t thank me yet, Aria. If what’s inside you turns out to be a danger… I’ll have no choice but to stop you myself.”

The door shut behind him with quiet finality, leaving me alone with the crackling fire. My hands trembled as I stared into the flames. They swayed alive, whispering secrets I couldn’t understand.

“He doesn’t trust you.”
“But he will need you soon.”

The voices echoed from somewhere deep within me, from the same place the fire lived. I pressed a hand to my chest, feeling warmth pulse beneath my ribs.

“Who are you?” I whispered into the empty room. “What are you turning me into?”

The flames only flared higher, casting my shadow across the wall like a silhouette crowned in fire.

Outside, Theron paced around beneath the moonlight, lost in thought. I could almost feel the storm inside him even through the cabin wall — the tension, the pull between us he kept trying to ignore. Something about me unsettled him, stirred something ancient in his wolf.

A guard approached him. “Alpha, we found this near the southern border.”

Theron took the parchment, bearing Moonshade’s seal. It had Kade’s mark. When he read it, he was speechless.

“We will reclaim what is ours. She carries the flame of the Ember Queen and it belongs to us.”

I didn’t see him crush the letter, but I imagined the edges burning faintly in his hand.

“The Ember Queen,” he muttered. “So it’s true.”

The moment I got inside, I knelt before the fire with exhaustion . The warmth reached for me like something alive. This time, I didn’t fight it.

A faint glow moved across my skin, curling like runes made of light. The fire whispered again, words I shouldn’t have understood.

“The moon remembers, child of flame. The hunt has only begun.”

The last spark flickered out, leaving me trembling in the dark.

…..

Far away, in Moonshade territory…
Alpha Kade stood before robed wolves, eyes gleaming with fury.

“The fire answers to her.”

“The prophecy is real,” one of them murmured.

Kade smiled dangerously. “Good. Then we know what must be done.”

In Crescent Pack, Theron stared up at the blood-red moon, instincts tightening. Something was coming and he knew it was coming for the pack.

And when it did, every loyalty he held would be tested.

Inside my cabin, the flames danced higher, forming the faint outline of a woman cloaked in fire watching, waiting.

The Queen will rise again
