Chapter 92 EPILOGUE: TWENTY YEARS LATER

Chapter 92 EPILOGUE: TWENTY YEARS LATER
CHAPTER 092: EPILOGUE. TWENTY YEARS LATER

Dorian and Seraphina are on the astronomy tower.

Twenty years after I died. They are forty-two years old now. They still look seventeen.

They are immortal. They never change. They live forever.

"Do you remember her voice?" Seraphina asks.

"Not much as I used to " Dorian says. "The memories are fading."

"I do not like that."

"I do not like it either."

Below them Duskmoor is thriving. There are children everywhere. The program they built is working over the world.

"She would be proud " Dorian says.

"She is watching. I can feel it."

"From the stars?"

"From wherever she's with the fragments."

They are quiet. They are counting stars like I taught them.

"How long do we do this?" Seraphina asks finally.

"Forever. That is the deal."

"Forever is a time."

"Then we should make it count."

Below them a new fragment child arrives.

She is scared. She is alone. She is powerful.

Dorian and Seraphina go down to meet her.

"Hello " Seraphina says gently. "Welcome to Duskmoor. You are safe here."

"I'm a monster " the girl whispers.

"You are not a monster. You are fragment-born. That makes you special."

"Whats fragment-born?"

"Someone who carries echoes of sacrifice. Someone born from love that was stronger than death."

The girl looks up. There is hope in her eyes.

"I'm not alone?"

"Never " Dorian says. "There are thousands of us. We all carry echoes. We are all learning to live with power we did not ask for."

"Can you help me?"

"That is what we do."

They guide her inside. They save another child.

That night Seraphina has a dream.

The white space again.. This time I am there.

It is not a memory. It is not imagination. I am really there.

"Mom?" she breathes.

"Hello baby."

"Are you really here?"

"For a moment. To tell you something."

Dorian appears in the dream too. It is the white space.

"What do you need to tell us?" he asks.

I smile. "You are doing perfectly. The Fragment Program. The lives you have saved. The world you are building. It is everything I hoped for and more."

"We miss you."

"I miss you too.. I am not really gone. I am here." I touch their chests. "In your hearts. In your memories. In every child you help."

"When will we see you again?"

"When you are ready to let go. When immortality becomes too heavy. I will be waiting.. The fragments.. Kieran. All of us together."

"That could be centuries."

"Then take centuries. Live fully. Love completely. Help everyone you can."

The dream starts fading.

"Wait!" Seraphina calls.

"I love you. Both of you. Forever."

"We love you too."

I fade completely.

They wake up at the time.

"Did you dream—"

"Yes."

"Was she real?"

"Does it matter?"

They smile.

Because she is right.

It does not matter if it was real or a dream. The message is the same.

Live. Love. Continue.

Five hundred years later.

Dorian and Seraphina are still going.

They still look seventeen.

They are still running the Fragment Program.

They have helped thousands of children. They have touched millions of lives.

The world has completely changed.

"Think we have done enough?" Seraphina asks.

"Not yet."

"When?"

"When there are no fragment children who need help. When the world fully accepts us. When change is complete."

"That could take millennia."

"Then we have millennia."

They stand together. They are two halves of one whole.

Survival.

Eternal balance.

They look at the stars that include the Covenant.

Somewhere in those stars they imagine four fragments watching.

With me. With Kieran. With everyone they have lost.

Proud. Happy. At peace.

"We will make you proud Mom " Seraphina whispers to the night.

"We promise " Dorian adds.

They hold hands.

They count heartbeats like I taught them.

One, two three, four.

They continue forward into forever.

They carry echoes of loves I lost.

They protect the world those loves died to save.

They build legacies from sacrifice.

Never truly lost.

Just transformed.

Forever continuing.

Through them.

Through every child.

Through the fabric of reality.

Always.

THE END

Authors Note:

This story spans from Thaliras awakening at seventeen through her death at seventy-seven and continues through her childrens immortal existence protecting fragment children across millennia. It is a story about love that's stronger than death sacrifice that creates rather than destroys and echoes that refuse to fade.

The fragments. Alaric, Cassian, Zev and the wolf. Gave everything to save the world. Their sacrifice created Dorian and Seraphina who carry pieces of what they were and build upon what they fought for.

Thalira chose life over power, mortality over immortality love, over destiny.. In doing so created a legacy that spans forever.

Never truly lost. Just transformed. Forever continuing.

Always.
