Chapter 107. Confession
***107\. Confession***
**Third Person's POV**
Sabrina stood frozen, her heart pounding violently in her chest as the sound of the gunshot echoed in the air. Fear gripped her, and she squeezed her eyes shut, unable to bear the thought of what she might see if she opened them.
The silence that followed was unbearable.
Where was Travis?
Her body tensed when another gunshot rang out, shattering the stillness. Sabrina flinched, her breath caught in her throat. But then, faint groans of pain reached her ears.
That’s not Travis’s voice.
She cautiously cracked her eyes open, and her heart leapt at the sight before her. Armed men filled the room, their presence commanding. Standing at the forefront were Jacob, Travis’s personal bodyguard, and Stav, who looked calm and unbothered, as though chaos was second nature to him. Around them were ten heavily armed men, one of whom still held a smoking gun from the recent shot.
Her gaze darted frantically across the room until it landed on Travis. Relief washed over her like a tidal wave when she saw him, battered but standing, his injured arm hanging at his side.
"Are you okay, King?" the leader of the armed men asked, bowing slightly in respect to Travis.
Travis gave a subtle nod, his eyes unwavering as they locked onto Sabrina.
Sabrina limped toward him, her body weak but driven by the overwhelming need to hold him. When they reached each other, they embraced tightly. Travis wrapped his good arm around her, burying his face in her hair. The familiar scent of her perfume was grounding, a reassurance that she was safe.
After a moment, Travis straightened and approached Shaun, who stood nearby, gripping a rifle. Without a word, Travis extended his hand. Shaun immediately handed him the revolver he was holding.
Turning to face John, Travis's expression hardened into one of pure disgust. He cocked the gun, his intent clear.
Sabrina’s heart dropped. She rushed toward him and wrapped her arms around him from behind.
“Travis, don’t,” she pleaded, her voice trembling. “We can handle this legally. Please, think about what will happen if you pull that trigger.”
Her words struck a chord, though frustration flickered in his eyes. “Sab, he took everything from us,” Travis growled, his grip tightening on the gun.
“I know,” she said softly, her voice steady despite her own fear. “But trust me. I know the right people who will make sure we get justice.”
Travis let out an exasperated sigh but relented, lowering the gun slightly. Instead, he vented his rage by slamming the butt of the revolver into John’s face, knocking him unconscious.
“That,” Travis snarled, his voice dripping with venom, “is for even thinking about touching her. She’s mine. Only mine.”
Sabrina exhaled in relief, but her moment of peace was short-lived. A sense of unease crept over her as she glanced around the room.
Helen.
Her absence didn’t go unnoticed. Sabrina’s sharp eyes finally spotted her lurking in the shadows, cowering near a corner.
Sabrina’s lips curled into a smirk as she strode toward her. But before she could reach her, Travis called out. She turned to see him unbuttoning the top button of his shirt, revealing a small device clipped discreetly to the fabric.
It was a spy camera.
“You’ve had it on all this time?” Sabrina asked, astonished.
Travis nodded, a faint smirk playing on his lips. “Every second. We’ve got everything we need.”
"Yes, that’s why I made sure they confessed to everything," Travis said gently, handing the camera to Stav. He turned to him with a purposeful look. "Did you do what I asked?"
"Yes, sir. The cops are on their way," Stav confirmed with a nod.
Sabrina stood silently, trying to piece everything together, her mind still spinning. Without another thought, she turned back to Helen, who was trembling in fear, and delivered a sharp knee to her face.
Even in her rage, Sabrina was careful to avoid Helen’s stomach, knowing there was an innocent life involved—one that had no say in the vile actions of its mother. She hadn’t realized Helen was pregnant earlier, but now that she did, she restrained herself from causing further harm.
"Sab, let’s go," Travis said firmly, his team flanking him as they prepared to leave.
Sabrina nodded, casting one last glare at Helen before turning away.
As they walked out, she caught sight of the man who had fired the shot at John.
"Hey!" he called out with an enthusiastic grin. "I’m Shaun—Travis’s best buddy. I’ve seen you on TV before, and I’ve gotta say, I really admire your boldness!"
Sabrina couldn’t help but smile at his sudden burst of chatter. His charm and easy demeanor were disarming, though Travis’s expression darkened. It was clear he wasn’t thrilled about the interaction.
"My name’s Sabrina," she said warmly, extending her hand. "But you can call me Sab if you want. Thank you for saving us."
Shaun reached out to shake her hand, but before he could, Travis pushed past the men holding him back and stormed to her side, his possessiveness written all over his face.
Sabrina rushed to steady Travis, her own battered body protesting every step.
"I said, keep your hands off her," Travis snapped, his voice a low growl. "She’s my wife."
Shaun raised his hands in mock surrender, chuckling. "Whoa, possessive much? Don’t worry, King—I know my boundaries. I just respect her work, that’s all."
"Good," Travis retorted sharply, his tone laced with warning. "Because if you don’t, I’m sure she’ll report you—and I’ll make sure she has the proof."
Sabrina glanced at him, puzzled by his statement, but decided to save her questions for later.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Travis’s pained groan.
"What’s wrong, Nio?" she asked, rushing to his side, her worry etched across her face.
"It hurts," he muttered, clutching his injured arm.
"Let me take a look," Sabrina offered.
He nodded, letting her unfasten his sleeve and gently push it aside. Relief swept over her when she saw that the bullet had only grazed his arm. The wound looked painful but wasn’t life-threatening—something a doctor could fix with relative ease.
Still, Travis winced and let out a sharp cry when her fingers brushed against the injury.
"Sir, I think you should head to the hospital," Jacob suggested, stepping forward.
"I’ll handle everything here, sir," Stav assured him.
As if on cue, the distant sound of sirens filled the air.
"I think that’s my cue to leave," Shaun said with a playful grin.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice," Travis said, his tone softening as he acknowledged his friend.
"Anytime for you, King," Shaun replied, nodding before signaling his men to stow their weapons. With a final wave, he and his team disappeared into the night.

Sabrina and Travis provided the police with a detailed account of what had occurred, handing over all the evidence they had. Despite his condition, Travis remained composed, careful not to say anything that might implicate him.
"Thank you, Mr. King," the sheriff said, holding the spy camera as evidence. "We’ll keep this safe and follow up on your statement once you’ve received medical attention. You need to get to the hospital right away."
Helen was handcuffed and taken into custody by two female officers, while Sabrina and Travis prepared to leave for the hospital.
As they made their way to the car, Sabrina suddenly stopped. "Wait, Nio!" she called out, turning back toward Stav.
"Did you send someone to get Wynter and my friends, Stav?" she asked urgently.
"No, ma’am, we didn’t," Stav admitted with a regretful shake of his head.
Travis, on the verge of losing consciousness, was gently helped into the car by his men. Stav climbed into the driver’s seat and began the drive to the hospital.
Sabrina’s mind raced as she decided to take matters into her own hands. She pulled out her phone and dialed Mark’s number.
"Mark, listen to me carefully, and please don’t react. Your actions are being watched," Sabrina warned in a hushed but firm tone.
"Sab, are you okay? You sound like you’re in pain," Mark replied, his voice laced with concern.
"I’m fine for now, but there’s something more important you need to focus on," Sabrina explained.
"I’m listening," Mark said, sensing the urgency in her voice.
"Take Wynter to a nearby park—make it look natural. If someone is following you, lose them, then come to the hospital with Wynter. Be smart, Mark," she instructed.
"Got it. I’m on my way," Mark responded without hesitation.
Sabrina hung up, but her heart remained heavy with worry. She wouldn’t feel at peace until Wynter was safe in her arms.

In the car with Wynter, Mark tried to keep the atmosphere light. "Hey, doll, how about we go to the park for a bit?"
Wynter frowned, her small face scrunching in sadness. "No, Uncle Mike. I want Mama Iris."
Mark hesitated but quickly thought of a distraction. "Maybe she’s waiting for us there. Let’s surprise her, okay?"
Wynter nodded reluctantly, and Mark exchanged a quick glance with Chris, who was trailing close behind in another car.
As they drove, Wynter’s sharp little eyes noticed something was off. "This isn’t the way to the park, Aunt Chris," she said suspiciously.
Chris chuckled nervously. "We’re just stopping for some snacks first, love. Then we’ll head to the park."
Mark’s attention, however, was glued to the rearview mirror. A black car had been tailing them for the past few minutes. Keeping calm, he took a series of sharp turns and navigated through narrow lanes, eventually losing the car.
When they arrived at the hospital, Mark and Chris quickly inquired about Sabrina and Travis. The receptionist directed them to their room.
Inside, both Sabrina and Travis had received medical attention. Though they had lost blood and were battered, their wounds were dressed, and they were stable. Sabrina sat anxiously outside Travis’s room, waiting for the doctor to finish his examination.
"Sab!" Mark called as he spotted her in the hallway.
"Mark!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up. "Wynter!"
Before she could say more, Wynter ran into her arms, wrapping her tiny arms tightly around her. Sabrina felt like she could finally breathe again as she held her daughter close.
"Where were you, Mama Iris?" Wynter asked, her voice quivering with worry.
Sabrina brushed her hand gently over Wynter’s hair. "It’s okay now, baby. Daddy and I had to fight some bad people, but we’re safe now."
Wynter’s wide eyes scanned Sabrina’s bruised face. "Mama, are you hurt?" she asked, her voice trembling.
"Just a little, sweetheart. Nothing I can’t handle," Sabrina said, forcing a reassuring smile despite the pain she felt.
Wynter gently touched her tiny fingers to the blue bruise forming on Sabrina's forehead.
Sabrina winced slightly from the discomfort, which caused Wynter’s lip to tremble as she fought back tears.
"Hey, hey," Sabrina said softly, trying to reassure her. "I’m fine, darling. There’s nothing to worry about."
But Wynter wasn’t convinced. Instead, she wrapped her small arms tightly around Sabrina’s neck, holding on as if she feared letting go.
"I want to see Daddy," Wynter whispered into Sabrina’s ear, her voice cracking.
Sabrina held her close. "We’ll see him soon, sweetheart. As soon as the doctor says it’s okay."
Chris, standing nearby, finally broke her silence. "Sab, what the hell happened? Why am I finding you like this?"
Sabrina looked at her with a weary expression. "Chris," she sighed, "can I explain everything later? Right now, it’s a lot for her to handle." She gestured toward Wynter, still clutching her tightly.
Chris exchanged a glance with Mark, both of them nodding in agreement.
Moments later, the doctor stepped into the hallway. "Mrs. King, you can see him now," he said with a small, professional smile.
Sabrina’s shoulders relaxed as relief washed over her. She thanked the doctor and carried Wynter into the room.
Travis was sitting upright in the hospital bed, his arm carefully bandaged and a faint sheen of ointment glistening on his bruised face. Despite his condition, he greeted them with a warm smile.
"Hey, Sab," he said softly, his eyes brightening. He turned his attention to Wynter. "Princess?"
Wynter’s eyes widened as she saw his injuries. "Daddy! What happened to you?" she asked, her tiny voice full of concern.
Travis chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "You know how Daddy’s a superhero, right? I had to fight some really mean demons to keep the world safe," he said, exaggerating dramatically.
Wynter’s worry melted into giggles, and even Sabrina couldn’t help but smile at his antics.
"Daddy, you’re silly," Wynter said, snuggling closer to him as he gently cradled her.
After a few minutes, Sabrina leaned down to Wynter. "Baby, can you wait outside with Uncle Mark and Aunt Chris for a bit? I need to talk to Daddy alone."
Wynter hesitated but eventually nodded. She kissed both her parents before skipping out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, Sabrina turned back to Travis. "How are you feeling now?" she asked, her voice soft with concern.
"Better now that you’re here," Travis replied, flashing a mischievous grin as he took her hand and pulled her closer.
He reached up, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face before leaning in and kissing her. The tenderness of the moment made Sabrina blush.
"Nio," she said, her voice trembling slightly, "what you told me back there... was it true? Did you really mean it?"
Travis’s expression softened, and he nodded. "Every word, Sab. I meant it. I don’t know when it happened or how, but loving you feels as natural as breathing. Anyone who truly knows you would find it impossible not to fall for you."
Sabrina’s eyes welled up with tears as she leaned into his embrace. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head and whispered, "I love you, Sabrina."
Travis held his breath, waiting for her response. The silence between them felt like an eternity. Her hesitation made him anxious, the weight of his confession pressing on his chest.
"Sab, please," he pleaded softly, "say something."
Sabrina pulled back slightly, meeting his eyes. "Nio," she began, her voice steady, "if I ask you something, will you tell me the truth?"
He nodded without hesitation. "Always."
"Who were those men? And what was John talking about when he mentioned your secret identity?" she asked, her tone gentle but firm.
Travis’s jaw tightened. He exhaled deeply, as if bracing himself for her reaction. "Before I tell you," he said, "promise me you’ll hear me out completely before passing judgment."
"I promise," Sabrina replied, her heart pounding.
Travis took her hands in his, his grip firm yet tender. "Sab... the reason everyone calls me ‘King’ and fears me... is because I’m a mafia boss."
