Chapter 78 78

Chapter 78 78
Third-person POV

In the underground prison, the Dreadwing Generals kept discussing what happened in the throne room and how Irian and the Sovereign had ended their engagement. They discussed how it all happened because of his slave, whom it was now rumoured was his soulmate, and how they were scared that a fae would soon be their queen.

They called Sovereign a weak male dragon that was set to break the rules because of some fae female pussy. They mentioned that he was gullible because of a common matebond that could be ended, but he turned his back on Irian.

Nothing stirred Rivers' attention until they mentioned how they wouldn't live to watch a fae rule beside their Sovereign, and so they would do anything in their power to see that Sovereign lost his soulmate and is granted another by the heavens or ascend.

For two days straight, River kept contemplating what to do to end all that. He didn't want his sister harmed by the dragons, and so he needed to act fast and save her life. He had completely healed and hadn't been punished daily like they always did, and so he didn't want anything that would trigger them or make them channel their anger towards his sister.

The best option he gave himself was mesmerising the divine book of fae powers that he had mastered a long time ago, hoping that it would help. The book was a huge one, and it would take him days to get through everything written there…so the next three days, he was able to take note of the sacred powers of the fae that could help out in need.

But each of the powers came with the conditions that no one would know about it, nor would they shift him from the position he was in when awakening the powers.

“Let's do this! Even if they shift my body and I die in the process, at least this should save Davina,” he told himself and sat comfortably, facing the wall opposite. He lowered his head so that it faced the ground, and then began the incantation of his spirit leaving his body back to the fae realm.

At the count of three, his shoulders dropped.

When one of the Generals came forth to the gate and saw him seated that way, he shook his head, holding back his laughter. “That's a nice punishment for yourself. Until you raise that head, you won't get anything to eat,” he muttered and walked away.

River found himself parading his father's chamber in search of the bell he'd always used to call on their messenger bird, and once he found it, he rang it several times before it flew into the chamber.

With a smile, he sat back and began caressing the pigeon's head, "You're going on an errand for me in the human land. Find Cillian Rhodes, a merchant in the human land and have the letter I will put down to reach him. If there's any response he gives, then you have to find me in the underground prison of the Dragon realm and get it to me secretly," he said, rubbing his fingers on the bird's body.

The homing pigeon grunted, and River grabbed an ink and a sheet, which he set and began writing down what he wanted Cillian to get done for him. It took a little time because he tore a lot of sheets before he was able to write it how it suited him and sounded like a plea.

Once he was done, he had the bird pick it up, and it flew away.

He looked out through the window and guessed it was already three hours since he left his body, so he began the incantation once again to return to his body.

But deep down, he was glad that he was able to find a remedy to reach the human male betrothed to his sister, but what bothered him a little bit was whether the man would be able to show up as he requested, or would he step back since it had to do with the dragon Sovereign everyone feared.

DAVINA ELM.

A week later,

Ofelia sang and danced around while I kept stomping my feet on the outfits I had in the basin. They were all dirty and too thick for my palm to squeeze, so the best option was stomping on them until the dirt was all out.

But soon, she stopped singing and walked closer to where I was. She climbed into the enormous basin and resumed her singing while we stomped the clothes together…that was when I realised that several female servants were staring at us.

It was really funny how she didn't give a damn about them and could do anything to make them feel bad, whereas i didnt care and just wanted to be safe.

“Have you heard?” Ofelia said, bringing her song to a stop. “Irian went for a tour outside the realm.”

I halted, “A tour? How? Is she a tourist?”

“Asking me who's here with you?” she giggled. “I think she wants to get over the breakup with your master, and I also heard from Perrin that her father has been sick since that day.”

They can't be serious!

“Are they trying to tell the whole world that they wouldn't exist without Dragon Sovereign?” I asked her, making a dull face.

She shrugged her shoulders, “But I fear her return. She wouldn't give up easily, which is why I think the Sovereign should have just put her in exile for everyone to rest. There's no way you would be here in the next ten years, right?”

How would I know?

“And I could only see a man who's been seeking an opportunity to end things with his betrothed, and so didn't want to miss that opportunity. I don't think they look at someone's record before they take any position, or in human land, she wouldn't be fit for the queen position if she returned ten years later.” Lia explained further while I listened. “I guess he was scared that the realm would choose her instead of a fae ruling beside him.”

I exhaled heavily and resumed what I was doing. One thing was that I was baffled about my life and if I was truly going to continue with this soulbond. I agree that I fell for Sovereign, but some bonds could be broken, including my feelings for him.

“So what are you saying about Orrifin? He's on the rooftop staring at you?” I whispered to Lia, and she went still.

She indirectly looked up so as not to draw the attention of the ladies watching us, and indeed Oriifin was there.

“Is he going crazy or what? He acts like he doesn't do anything other than stalking me…and I don't like it.”

“Then tell him about it…” I said to her and cleared my throat. “I think he's in love with you.”

Lia slapped my ass, and we laughed it all out. “Don't say that again. Such a man with a dark heart really can't love.”

“How about we see how it goes?” I giggled, and she hissed out and still laughed at me.

By the time we concluded it all, we spread it all together, and I insisted on leading her back home since Sovereign wasn't back. But we reached the palace entrance to see the men there, all showing off their strengths, obstructing the way out.

Lia held my hand, “What should we do now? Maybe you should get back so I would have Orrifin send me back…”

I thought about it, and that was the only way for her to leave, so I nodded in agreement.

As I turned around, I heard a man say, “She's the one I came for….” so I froze and turned to see who they were talking about. “Davina, I am here to see you.”

I narrowed my gaze, spared Lia, who looked shocked as I was a glance, and then turned around.

The guards let go of the man, and he fastened his steps towards me. He adjusted his outfit and even his hair, then put up a smile.

“I am Cillian Rhodes, your human betrothed,” he said and tried walking closer, but Lia was fast enough to stand between us. “Do you know how long I searched for you before getting to know that you were here?”

I was here?

“Sorry, but I don't remember telling anyone that I was here,” I said to the man politely.

He nodded and swiftly walked past Lia. “Well, your brother sent me a message about you, so I needed to come take what belongs to me,” he said, and his expression became serious that instant.

River told him? How did he do it in that cell?

No, no, no! This shouldn't be happening because it would cause another issue between Sovereign and me, and I was so tired of it all. So I looked up to the man and said to him, “I don't have a betrothed….” I said, shaking my head.

He glanced at his sides, and there was Lia, whose expression could kill a fly. “I'm not requesting or demanding that I take you, but I'm ordering you to leave with me. Your parents engaged us three years ago and…

“Shut it! Do you even realise that I'm older than you? How dare you order me? Did I make the choice myself? So just let me be!” I screamed at his face and quickly diverted to begin leaving, but he grabbed my hand and pulled me backwards, and I found my body resting on his.

He looked me dead in the face and whispered, "You're mine, Davina!!” and that statement caused a knot to twist in my belly.
