Chapter 89 - The Rising
“Grams, is that you?” Her eyes widened with fear.
When she didn’t hear any response, fear gripped her more. She ran toward the door to flee the room but the door refused to open.
She wrestled with the door before someone knocked her off her feet from behind.
When she lifted her face, she made a profile of her grams, standing over her. Her gram face looks mean and serious. “You don’t listen, do you?”
Mary steeled her failing nerves and sprang back to her feet. Now she knows who she’s up against, she vividly knows what to do.
“You lived your life following your desired path,” Mary said. “Now you don’t want me to do the same. This is the path I chose.”
She stretched her hand toward her grams. She slowly squeezes her fingers as if she was shocking someone in the air.
Her grams started gasping for air. She held her throat, struggling. She could feel an invisible hand wrapped around her throat.
“What are you doing?” she barely squeezes out.
She started gasping for air.
“What does it look like am doing?!” Mary lashed out. “Kicking you out of my life and sending you back to the veil!”
She continued with what she was doing. The light bulbs in the room blew like a gunshot into the air.
Standing up to the spirit of her grams was something she never knew she could do. Coming in contact with the book of the shadows seemed to have inspired his hidden powers the more.
As she continued with the torment she was unleashing on her grams, a red thick smoke rolled in and took her grams away.
“No!” she gnawed. She wasn’t done with the torture. “Come back here!”
The closet door stopped slamming harshly as the harsh wind ceased too. She scanned her eyes around the room for any sign of her grams but disappointedly, she was nowhere to be found.
Her face hardened and narrowed into slits. “I will get you again.”

O'Hare Airport, Chicago.
“Our ride is here,” Jasmine said, pointing Dean’s attention to a white limousine that pulled up in front of the airport.
The limousine is the latest brand and a very expensive one. Not even the richest CEO could afford such a brand.
Dean straightened out himself. “Let’s go,” Dean said, taking the lead toward the limo. His sister, Jasmine followed right after him.
He didn’t want the driver to get the door for either of them. He gestured for him to return to the wheels and start the driver. He gets the door himself and so is Jasmine.
Seated behind the driver, he tapped him, “Let’s roll.”
The wheels of the limo rolled over a puddle of water. With the windows rolled up, the driver drove through the empty streets behind the airport road. Not quite long, the limo turned softly at Wilson Avenue and trailed off toward an older part of the city.
Finally, it came to a halt at the blind end of a narrow lane in front of an old mansion dated back to the early 80’s.
“The driver peered through the rear mirror and announced their arrival. He too is vampire sired by Dean himself. One of the most loyal vampires dying to do Dean’s bidding.
Jasmine and Dean opened the back door, respectively, and climbed down as they both stared around the old mansion.
“It’s still the same,” Jasmine said in a soft tone.
The streets were shrouded in darkness except for the mansion which had a few white lamps hung from iron poles that served as an ancient usher outside the gate.
Dean walked up to the door and rapped the iron knocker. His sister, Jasmine, patiently stood behind her, waiting for the door to be answered.
They didn’t wait for too long as the door was soon answered by an old woman with long gray hair and wrinkled bony hands. Her sad pale face was a crisscross of wrinkles and scars. She held out an old lantern and welcomed them inside.
“I am sorry the power has been out for quite some time. I would have lit the candles if I had known you would be here soon.”
“We don’t mind the darkness, Mrs. Willie,” Dean said.
“I have told you, call me Miss Willie.” A radiant smile lit up her entire face with joy. “You make me look married but I am searching, you know.” She winked at Dean.
Jasmine snickered under her breath. “She never gets old.”
It’s no secret; that Mrs. Willie has had a crush on Dean for way too long in her youthful age. But Dean never paid attention. He had his mind occupied with Mia, a witch who later stole a powerful magic book from his family.
Mrs. Willie has been practicing magic right from when she was 16. She had been allies with Dean and his siblings and respected them as the first vampires to have walked the earth. She was the one who came up with the title for them the ‘Dracula’s descendant ,’ and ever since then, other supernatural entities refer to them as the ‘Dracula’s descendant .’
Dean, Dan, and Jasmine are the original vampire bloodline. Every other vampire is just a diluted bloodline. The three siblings created lesser entities like them when they started feeding on the humans. Their first mistake is turning those they chose not to drain dry who in turn—turn others.
She shuts the door behind her and focuses her gaze on Dean. “You sounded urgent on the phone. What is it this time?”
“Dan is out,” he said with haste.
“I heard,” she responded. “But what does that have to do with an old witch like me?”
“We made a mistake and now we want you to help us fix it,” Dean said without hesitation. He drew closer to Mrs. Willie and continued in a refined voice. “When we daggered Dan, we cloaked him with magic that none of his werewolf allies would find him. Now, rumor has it that a gypsy girl found him and pulled the dagger off his chest. We need to make it right.”
Mrs. Willie brought her lips closer to Dean and whispered. “You still haven’t answered my question. What does that have to do with an old witch like me?”
