Chapter 84

Chapter 84

"Can you think about yourself before you say that to me? Didn't you consider these things when you went for the match? If your kidney matched, you would have had the surgery too, right?"

Stella was slightly taken aback by this and didn't know how to comfort her mother.

Now that things were settled, Layla had already lost a kidney, and there was no point in saying anything more.

At this moment, Margaret walked into the ward from outside, carrying some nutritional supplements and a bouquet of flowers for Layla.

Layla's face immediately darkened when she saw her. "What are you doing here?"

Although Margaret had mentally prepared herself for this, her heart still ached a bit when Layla's first words to her were like that.

"Layla, I know you just had surgery and are weak, so I wanted to come and see you."

Layla snorted coldly, "As long as you don't appear in front of me, I'll recover faster."

Hearing this, Margaret's face turned pale, and John, who was sitting beside her, immediately interrupted sternly, "Enough, Margaret came to see you because she's worried about you. Why do you have to talk to her like that?"

Layla's expression turned ugly when she heard her husband siding with Margaret again. "What did I say? I'm the patient now. Don't I have the right to decide who I want to see or not see?"

This was indeed reasonable, but John still found her behavior unreasonable.

"I really don't know what to say to you. You should calm down here."

After saying that, he was about to leave when he heard Layla's voice from behind, "Fine, if you leave now, don't come back to see me. When I get better, we'll go through the divorce procedures."

Since he didn't care about her at all, there was no point in staying together.

John was very troubled now. Hearing his wife's words, he looked at her with a helpless frown.

Margaret also wanted to say something to mediate. Although she didn't like Layla, she knew that John and Layla had been married for many years and didn't want John to argue with Layla because of her.

"John, don't be angry. Layla's still not well. If she doesn't want to see me, I'll leave."

John felt even more guilty when he heard Margaret say this.

"Margaret, this has nothing to do with you. She shouldn't talk to you like that."

Margaret had no idea about Layla donating a kidney. She came to see her out of kindness and didn't understand why Layla had to be so harsh.

Margaret pursed her lips and shook her head, indicating that she didn't take it to heart.

John sighed and looked at Layla, "Are you hungry? I'll go get you something to eat."

He really needed to go out and clear his head to relieve his emotions.

Layla looked at him and snorted, "I want a burger from the place downstairs."

Although she needed to eat light food after surgery, Layla rarely expressed what she wanted to eat, so John hesitated for a moment before deciding to go downstairs to get her a burger.

After John left, Margaret put down the flowers she was holding and was about to leave. She had only come to check on Layla, and seeing that Layla still had the energy to be angry with her, she figured Layla was fine.

But just as she was about to go, she heard Layla's sinister voice, "Will you only be satisfied when our family is in complete chaos?"

Margaret looked at her in confusion, not understanding what she meant.

"I mean, when will you, this bringer of bad luck, completely disappear from my sight? Do you know how annoying it has been to see you all these years? I've raised you for so many years, have you ever repaid me in any way? All I ask is that you stop clinging to Howard and stop interfering with his relationship with Stella."

Layla kept bringing up the same topics, and Margaret was getting frustrated.

"I don't know why you always think I'm seducing Howard. I'm married now. I came to see you out of courtesy, and it has nothing to do with Howard. As for your daughter's relationship with him, that's not something I can control."

Layla laughed coldly, "If you have nothing to do with him, why did you come as soon as he called you?"

Howard, who was standing behind, wanted to step forward and explain for Margaret, but Stella held his arm tightly, preventing him from breaking free. He could only look at Margaret helplessly, unable to say a word in her defense.

Margaret found it laughable. She laughed out loud before saying, "Fine, I won't bother you and your daughter anymore."

If it weren't for John, she wouldn't have come.

Margaret said this and was about to leave. This time, no one stopped her. As she passed by Howard, she heard him softly call her name, but she didn't pause or look back and left the ward.

After she left, Stella finally let go of Howard's hand, and Howard immediately chased after her without hesitation.

Stella was furious and wanted to chase after him too, but before she could, she heard Layla call her, "Why are you so useless? After all this time, he still has Margaret in his heart."

Stella felt hurt by this. She didn't understand why, after all her efforts, she still couldn't get Howard's attention.

"How would I know? I've done everything I can for him!"

Hearing this, Layla's eyes were filled with pain.

"Luckily, I donated a kidney for you. He promised me that as long as I gave his mother a kidney, he would marry you. No matter how much Margaret interferes, you and he will walk down the aisle."

Stella felt a bit better hearing this. She looked at her mother with gratitude in her eyes.

"Mom, thank you so much."

If Layla's kidney hadn't matched, she really didn't know how she could get closer to Howard.

"As long as you can live happily with him, I'm satisfied. You don't need to thank me. I'm your mom. If I don't help you, who will?"

Thinking about how her husband only cared about Margaret, Layla was also in a bad mood.
