NEXT FLIGHT
NEXT FLIGHT
Rosalia
I took the next flight to Japan.
Immediately I got a call from Bianchi Corporations regarding the present state of Viviana, I snatched my bag, took my passport and papers and in less than five hours I was already in the air.
Bianchi Corporation was sponsoring the flight and I was beyond grateful, not because of the flight ticket- I would have scratched all that is left in and out of my savings to ensure I was in Japan despite anything. But because I might not have gotten one that would have been ready to take off like the one Viviana’s boss got.
I could hardly sit still, I was jumpy- so jumpy. Like I wished to leap out from my skin. To the extent that a man from the other aisle had to give me his bottle of water. If not because my mental health was in a fragile state and I couldn’t help but keep recounting that Viviana was in a bomb accident, perhaps I would have been nicer to the man.
After handing me his bottle of water which I readily accepted, while muttering a weak thank you, I don’t know what about my appearance suggested that I was looking forward to striking a reception.
When my side eye hopefully sent a burn to him, he knew I was not going to answer his question- whatever it might have been.
Immediately we landed, I was snatching my things again and running to catch a taxi.
But as I ran towards one, that same man from earlier was trying to catch up to me while waving something at me.
If I was not hasty perhaps I would have considered his good looks and extra ordinary features, and taken an extra minute to understand the reason he needed my attention.
But I just could not bring myself to stop or allow my brain the opportunity to think. I needed to see Viviana and I needed to do so immediately. A bomb attack? From where? Who? Who did they want dead?
The fact that my best friend, one who has meant more than family to me could have been blown off to smithereens, isn’t a reality I am prepared for.
I entered into the taxi, recited an address from my phone and the vehicle sped off just as the weird man reached.
The next thing I am swerving through the busy cities of the country from the airport. My heart kept racing harder and harder as the dots on my Google map informed me of how close I was.
In seventy five more minutes, I had reached my destination, rapped a few words to the receptionist, and got on an elevator.
Luckily as the elevator dinged and its doors opened to a hallway, Viviana’s famous boss and pursuer - Mr Jacob Bianchi- was just exiting a particular ward. His head was buried in his phone as I sprinted despite how weak my body felt. He lifted his head on hearing my disorganized steps and tucked it away on noticing me.
“Viviana’s friend I suppose,” he acknowledged, managing a smile. I nodded while stuttering and partly out of breath, “yes it is I.”
“Come with me” he directed and swiftly he turned and began to stride back to the room he just exited. He swiped a card over the door knob before pushing it open.
My heart slowed in my chest. “Viviana “ I called immediately, dumping my bag on the floor and rushing over to her side. Her eyes were fixed on the television opposite her but on hearing my voice, she turned toward me. Her eyes softened, “I told you not to come Rosalia. I am alright, it’s nothing fatal.”
Though I was not certain how careful I was being but I placed my head to her chest and my hands to her side in a hug. My eyes had turned misty once I stepped into the room and so I had not been able to take notice of anything but her. The walls and every other thing that might be in the room was in a blur. All except my best friend.
“I will leave the both of you to catch up. I must catch my flight and return back to the country to handle some minute details.” Mr Bianchi said, still standing at the threshold.
“No issues Sir. I apologize for not being able to come along.” Viviana said to him.
She is so unbelievable. Is she supposed to be thinking of work at this moment? Does she realize her replacement would immediately be gotten if she had not survived whatever that was?
“Are you joking Viviana? You were in a destructive bomb accident. Even if I am heartless, this is the worst time to ask you to return. Although I hope for your quick recovery because there is so much to do. Fernando Grant has approved working with us.”
I could hear the joy in Mr Bianchi’s tone.
“That’s good news Sir. Congratulations.
One more thing Mr Bianchi, please where is Massimo? He put himself before the bomb and I and I have been too afraid to ask his current condition or where he is.”
