THE CONFRONTATION
THE CONFRONTATION

Don Dante and Viviana not being in the country was a straight way ticket to vacation days. It meant I have more time to myself, free time. But what does my brain think of using those days to do? It thinks and recommends the sight of Rosalia and so for three excruciating days, I watch Roslia and the bastard Enzo interact. He was always doing more than needed during these brief- but- still - too- long interactions. It was either he was touching a strand of hair behind her hair - like she couldn’t feel it, it just had to be you who did it right? Or brushing off dust or something he most likely imagines was there away. This seemed to please his mother well. And then my most ranked transgression in his list of crimes, the one that makes my veins thick and my blood boil, a hug. He was always the first to initiate it, spreading his chest at her for them to hug. He would do so after greeting and acknowledging his ever smiling mother. Then they would stay by his car and discuss, then right before she goes over to her car, he would do the same thing again. Opening his goddamm arms.
I watch them do it again now and after he enters into his car and drives off with his mother. While she does same. I don’t use the same car everyday to avoid being spotted and I neither choose anything flashy or something that can’t drive as fast as I want to.
I follow and watch Rosalia as she stops a few streets before her house. I already know where she is headed. She goes right into that same ‘restaurant’ and as usual the woman in charge is happy to see her. Today I notice the absence of the bucket and I’m grateful. I have a hat on and lowered past my eyebrows. I also have a mask on and although I know how suspicious that is especially since I’m going into a place where it is expected that I use my mouth, but I don’t care.
No one asks any questions and I always leave a fat tip. This day, I choose a seat that is closer to Rosalia’s and although it isn’t as close as I would like it to be and doesn’t face the room, but it affords me the chance to hear her voice as she chats with the woman I’ve come to know as Ma’am Greta. The two other waitresses almost arrive at my table at the same time, drawing some unwarranted attention to my table. The one who served me the first day makes a detour for another table in a not so subtle mannner while the other waitress cheerily asks what I would like. Now I wished it had been the First Lady because she knew I would want the best drink they have which is the worst thing I have ever tasted. Something I would hardly touch. I have to lighten my voice - and hope no one notices - as I give her my order. She smiles all too brightly before she flees to get what I have requested.
“So Viviana hasn’t returned?” Ma’am Greta asks Rosalia. “No she hasn’t. I miss her so much. I wish my boss could have a business in Japan that also had to do with children.”
Ma’am Greta chuckled. “I doubt the possibility of that. But it’s all good. You don’t need to be so sad seeing as you also have a reason to remain here. Tell me, how is the man doing? Has he requested that you go on a date together?”
Rosalia almos squeals in the utmost delight. “Yes. Yes he has. Although it has to be next weekend and I don’t know how cool I can remain till then. It’s not every time a girl gets to go on a date with someone that handsome and intelligent. Although these things seem bare, you will be shocked how many men out there don’t take care of their appearances. So freaking weird.”
One of my hands immediately goes to my jaw and I feel the stubble I have been procrastinating because I am always in a haste to leave the house. I resolve to do so tonight right before hitting the bed.
“I’m happy for you my darling and I can’t wait for Viviana to return from her trip. She claims to have a few things to tell us and because she doesn’t want to recount it to either of us, she is keeping me on the hot anticipation seat. And now I just put you on it too. Many things are going through my head. Maybe she has found another man or maybe Jacob finally announced to be over his subtle obsession with her-“
“Or maybe she has finally confronted that man like she was advised to.” Ma’am Greta interjects. My eyes widen a little as I try to imagine Viviana confronting tall and huge Don Dante.
