Chapter 68

Chapter 68

The purpose of Alberto's operation this time was to seize the Lacey family's port, which happened to be one of the things Killian valued most.

When he took over from my father and started running the entire Lacey family, he talked about how much he valued the port and docks, even though he later shifted his focus elsewhere.

But the port was still one of our strategic resources.

If this were before, Killian would probably handle Alberto much more easily.

I knew that for Killian to use so many schemes to kill my dad and keep it secret for so many years, he must have his own capabilities.

But the current Killian had lost his mind. In his crazy state, he definitely wouldn't be a match for Alberto.

"I suspect the two of them won't even start talking or negotiating at all - they'll just start shooting," Luca said after learning the whole situation.

I nodded too. "Normally, Killian would choose to talk first, like he did with us last time. But this time, not necessarily."

"Relax, at least they all think you're dead, so you'll be the biggest wild card in this battle," Virio said.

Hearing this, I smiled. "Of course."

But after saying that, my smile disappeared.

These past few days, I had hidden all traces and information about myself. Virio and Luca even bribed people for my plan and faked "evidence" that I had indeed gone home the day of the explosion.

This made the outside world's speculation about my death increasingly real, but Killian hadn't even publicly responded to this matter or held a funeral for me.

If he really did that, I thought this whole thing would become even more dramatic.

Luca took a phone call and went out. I figured he was making sure all our deployments were in place.

We prepared quite a bit temporarily for today, and now we all need to stay completely focused to make sure every detail goes right.

From a distance, we used binoculars to watch what was happening at the dock.

At seven o'clock that evening, there was suddenly some commotion at the dock.

The workers who had been loading and unloading cargo suddenly took off their gloves in unison.

They headed toward another group of people.

At the same time, one worker frantically pulled out his phone, apparently to notify Killian.

Killian quickly got the news and rushed to the dock.

When I saw this scene, I instantly grabbed Virio's hand.

I hadn't seen Killian in a long time.

I never expected our next meeting would be here, or that I'd be watching them from a distance.

Virio noticed my tension and quickly wrapped his hand around mine, saying softly, "Don't be nervous, we'll proceed according to the original plan."

"Do you think he'll die this time?" I had imagined Killian's death many times, but never thought it would be under circumstances like today.

Virio squeezed my hand. "I don't know. If he dies at Alberto's hands, will you feel regret?"

"I think so. I always thought I would be the one to finish him off myself."

Virio smiled. "I don't think you would."

"Why?"

He gently tapped my nose and said with a smile, "Because after you shot someone last time, it took you many days to recover. If I hadn't comforted you every day, you'd probably still be stuck in that moment. And this is your family."

"Family? After experiencing Massimo and Joseph, do you still think family is some important role?" I asked him back with a smile.

Virio's expression changed slightly, then he helplessly held me tight.

I knew his answer was of course no.

We had both experienced betrayal by family, and we both knew what was truly important.

"They've started shooting!" Luca suddenly came back, interrupting my conversation with Virio.

I quickly looked toward the port with my binoculars. Sure enough, there was gunsmoke, and I could even see gunfire.

Alberto had heard about Freya's incident and decided to cancel the agreement and take it by force, so he brought two squads, almost all elite personnel.

But because this plan came suddenly, the goal was to take it quickly and decisively - their preparation wasn't thorough enough.

At least when Killian appeared, I saw the people on site freeze for a moment.

"They hesitated. Taking the port is their goal, but if they kill the Lacey family's head, it will have a huge impact on the battle situation," I said, watching the scene in the distance, feeling a bit nervous.

But Alberto had come in person, so once this war started, there was no pause button.

In the chaos, I saw Killian cover his abdomen and step back. A large patch of red blood spread from his abdomen.

"Killian's been shot!"

Virio grabbed my hand. "Now it's our turn to make an appearance."

We had arranged plenty of deployments in advance, so when I appeared on the scene with Virio protecting me, everyone froze when they saw me.

And I saw that the most shocked was none other than Killian.

He was covering his abdomen, and the people he brought with him were trying hard to give him emergency treatment. The scene had reached a stalemate because of his injury.

Alberto obviously hadn't expected to make things this big, so he hadn't figured out how to handle it yet.

If Killian died on the scene, it would mean that everything going forward would become extremely complicated.

My appearance undoubtedly made this battle, which already had a result, even more intense.

Others protected me, so neither Alberto's side nor Killian's side fired again.

I appeared at the dock, holding a copy of the will and the family seal my father left me.

"You must be very surprised to see me. Yes, I'm not dead."

I took a deep breath and looked at them. "Actually, I never went home that day, so that explosion only affected Freya."

From Killian's shocked expression, I could tell that he actually knew about this long ago - he just didn't want to admit it.

All those news stories and trending topics outside were about me, and he never responded to any of them from start to finish.

Now, Freya was still lying in the hospital, burned all over and disfigured, and still unconscious.

Killian must know how all this happened.

In fact, no one knew better than him - he personally set the bomb in that room.

"The will I released before was real. I'm the only legal heir. Well, now I'm using this position to order you all to stop firing."

"And from now on, everything will be done as I say."

With the family seal in hand, they would of course all listen to me.

Alberto's people had just injured Killian and didn't want to bear the blame for starting the conflict, so they were the first to put down their guns.
